Firmware 4.0 Feedback: “XF 35/F1.4 – All of the sudden it is like a different lens. Dramatic change” More at the FXF

For some reason, yesterday a photographer decided to share the X-T1 Firmware 4.0 file with the whole world on Facebook. People began to install it, and a kind French FR-reader, shared the link also with FujiRumors.

Of course, for the sake of science, I had to install it on my own X-T1. But I’ve decided to take off from FujiRumors and the Fuji X Forum, since this is a BETA version of the firmware. The final version will be available on the 25th. Other sites are still offering it, like the Spanish Forum Fujistas. But I do not recommend to update, since it could have bugs, that Fuji still has to sort out. It could damage your camera, and no warranty will cover it. Just wait a few more days.

I hope to find some time later today, to test it by myself. What I can say so far, is that in AF-S the 35F1.4 for sure feels more responsive. Still have to do proper AF-Tracking tests.

Anyway, I’m not the only one with FW 4.0, and more feedback can be read in the comments of this FXF thread. I’ll share a few here… to read all the comments click here.

The 35mm does not pulse back and force anymore it just locks on!! amazing!! :).”

FXF member absolutic:

“Here are my results so far.  I only have 3 Fuji X lenses currently.

35/1.4  the most dramatic change.  Lens just gets to focus without rocking back and forth. Amazing for this lens. All of the sudden it is like a different lens!!!
18-135.  I tried to lower the light in my bedroom and focus at tele end.  It is usually a slow lens to focus in low light.  Result – much quicker acquisition.
56/1.2    seems to be no changes whatsoever with how that lens focused with previous firmware.”

A French FujiRumors reader spotted the Firmware 4.0 file on Facebook… and for the sake of science, I decided to update My Own X-T1 with Firmware 4.0 and test if it works :)

It’s really late at night here, and I will do proper testings tomorrow. But it’s pretty nice to see how well it tracks my dog ;).

IMPORTANT NOTE: Although the file is circulating on facebook, I decided to remove it.

LR 5.7 Vs. LR 6.1 100% Crop Comparison

_ _ _

It seems that Adobe is about to unlock the Full Potential of the X-TRANS sensor… and yesterday they made the first important step.

As demonstrated by FXF Member BarwickGreen in this FXF thread, the annoying halo effect has been significantly improved! He shared & compared some 100% crops here processed in LR5.7 and LR6… and I definitely like the results :) .

And this is just the beginning. In fact, Adobe is also working to “improve fine detail rendering and overall edge definition.”

So Adobe’s poor X-TRANS demosaicing was not just a placebo or pixel peeper problem ;)… and I’m happy to see them finally sorting out this issue.

Feel Free to Share your own tests in this thread here.

Fujifilm HS-V5 Tethered Shooting PC Software available in Europe… and how it will run on MAC, too!

Fuji’s tethered shooting odyssey is slowly nearing its end. After UK, now the HS-V5 Tethered Shooting Software is available also in Amazon Germany and Amazon France.

It’s a PC only software, so MAC users have to wait for a dedicated Adobe Plug-in, which will be available (not for free) sometimes at the Adobe Exchange site… or do it like Rico, who explained in his X-T1 tethering shooting article here:

Mac OS users will have to install a (virtual) Windows machine on their computer. Personally, I was using Parallels Desktop and Windows 8.1 to check out a pre-release version of HS-V5 on my MacBook Pro.”
