New Fujifilm X Half Teaser Video Published

Half a year ago, we told you that the main concept behind the Fujifilm X Half would be make diptychs.

Well, here are are, 6 months later, and the latest Fujifilm X Half teaser seems to confirm that this is indeed the idea behind this camera. You can see the teaser above.

Fujifilm X Half Rumors

Fujifilm X Half: A Playground for Innovation – Could It Inspire the Next Generation of Fujifilm Cameras?

Say what you will about the Fujifilm X Half, but one thing seems clear: it’s Fujifilm at its most experimental.

And it’s not just about the bold decision to go with a “half frame” sensor or the unusual vertical LCD layout.

The Fujifilm X Half incorporates new ideas and concepts that go well beyond that.

Most notably:

But there are also other features, also firmware related, like the new analogue mode, which further show that Fujifilm is really going wild with ideas on the Fujifilm X Half.

These features got me thinking: could any of these experimental touches make their way into Fujifilm’s higher-end X series cameras in the future? And more importantly—should they?

Let’s take the controversial LCD on the X-Pro3 as an example. Loved by some, loathed by others, that hidden screen was always a polarizing choice. But what if it was a small touchscreen instead? One that let you quickly swipe through film simulations or adjust key settings? Maybe that would breathe new life into the hidden LCD concept and win over more fans.

Personally, though, if I had to pick just one feature to bring to future X series cameras, it’d be the thumb winder.

Call me nostalgic—I won’t mind. The tactile joy of pulling a lever to take a shot again? That would be pure joy. And keep in mind, on the Fujifilm X Half the lever can serve several purposes. So you can see it as sort of a “function lever”.

If Fujifilm gave us a thumb winder with assignable functions on future cameras, that would be a nice touch.

But hey, that’s just my take.

What about you? Would you like to see any of these features on upcoming X series cameras? Cast your vote in the poll below and share your thoughts in the comments!

Fujifilm X Half – This is How the Thumb Winder Works

We recently told you that the Fujifilm X Half will have a thumb winder similar to the first ever rangefinder digital camera on the market.

But will it be just a “fake” winder like on this expensive Leica camera?

Well, now we can also give you a few more details on how it works:

  • when taking images, pull the lever to display images side by side – the “diptych mode”
  • pull the lever to take another image when you are in “analogue mode” – which we explained here
  • push the lever towards the body to see the last picture you have taken

So far this “multi-functional” thumb winder is the most intriguing part of the upcoming Fujifilm X Half for me.

But overall Fujifilm has gone very experimental with the Fujifilm X Half. I guess this is the perfect camera to take some risks and try out new concepts.

Fujinon 14-26mmF5-7 and 12-26mmF5-6.8 APS-C Lens Patents Spotted

Compact, affordable and wide lenses designed mainly for video use are a popular option at other brands:

And taking a look at the latest patents surfaced on the web, it seems that Fujifilm is investigating this possibility too, as reported by the Japanese website asobinet.

The patents are:

  • Fujifilm 14-26mmF5-7
  • Fujinon 12-26mmF5-6.8

Asobinet speculates that these could be patents for low-priced, small and lightweight lenses for video and powezooms like the XC15-45mm F3.5-5.6 OIS PZ.

Anyway, these are just patents, and out of hundreds of patents I have shared in over a decade here on FujiRumors, I think I remember only one become reality before it was announced.

A more more reliable indication on what Fujifilm is working on is given to us by Fujifilm directly, when they made a list of 10 potential lenses, one of them has already been released and the other one is coming in not too distant future, too.

So there are 8 more lenses that could come and you can vote on in the survey linked in the article below.
