POLL: Vote your Fuji Top Gear 2013!

Mission accomplished! With the XQ1/X-E2 Fuji’s gear release roadmap for 2013 is complete.

Yes I know, many of us hoped for the XF 10-24 to come this year, too. In fact I’m pretty sure that the announcement was planed for late November, but Fujifilm decided to postpone it. I don’t know if it will be still announced this year, but we will hardly be able to take shots with it earlier than February 2014. It seems that Fuji could release the 56mm f/1.2 earlier than the 10-24 (the 56 should be announced January 6th).

With no new gear released this year, it’s time for us to take our conclusions. Which Fuji product made you say “WOW”? What was the gear that excited you most? The list includes the 14mm, announced late 2012, but shipped only on January 19th 2013.

It’s a pretty long list… Fuji wasn’t lazy at all this year!

You can choose just one product, so think about it carefully.

My favorite Fuji product 2013 is...? (one answer only)

    What about your favourite product?

What about the trends for 2014 then?

  • linhobru

I got X-E2, 14mm and 23mm this year. Although I love both lenses, the WOW factor for me goes to X-E2. I had the x-e1 before and the improvements are sensitive, and difficult to explain, because when you compare the specifications, many people were disappointed saying that it was to few improvements, but when you compare those on hands, it is clearly that x-e2 is much much better. focus is faster and more important to me: accurate! colors are improved as well, there is min shutter speed in auto iso… for me it made the whole difference and now I can say I am very happy with my camera and I think more about composition and taking good photos than in technology itself, because now I got all I need to focus only on my photos.

  • rainer

It was and still is he X-E1 which makes me say WOW in 2013!
it is a) a beautiful camera
    b) there is quite a difference between “beeing announcened” and “beeing available”.

  • marcins

uk buyers can check to http://shop.fujifilm.co.uk/lenses some lens cheaper :) and http://www.johnlewis.com/ every camera and lens 2 years warranty for free on this site/shop order online and collect possible.

  • MrGecko

Best product in IMHO is the PR Machine Fuji created

    And off topic….
How about a rumor mill round-up of what you are currently tracking and estimated dates & probability?

  • anon

What is the speculation on the delay for the 10-24? Is the image quality so good that the 23mm sales would suffer ;) ??

    • fmNYC

      10-24 will be great, but I don’t suppose an f/4 would cannibalize an f/1.4 — an f/2 or 2.8 maybe…

  • TJM

Totally off topic but wondered if there is any news on the rumored higher spec weather sealed camera. I’m desperate for Fuji to release a camera that has good video capability. I need an all rounder for my work and really want an X camera but just can’t jump in with current lack of video quality and controls – I’m looking to order something quite soon but hoping something special is coming.

Looking at GH3 at the mo but really want manual controls and Fuji sensor. Any thoughts Patrick?

As has been mentioned before, adding video to still photography is more a case of “me too-ism”, and possibly a waste. If you’re serious about video, check out http://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products

      • FmNYC

Blackmagic looks awesome, but who wants to collect an entirely different set of lenses? I guess you can use adapters. Still, it seems reasonable enough today to expect decent video out of a stills camera. I’d be pretty happy if the next Fuji body could do it. Plus, I do t have an extra $1,000 to spend on the Blackmagic body.

  • Rap

I wonder what is the cause of the 10-24 delay. Are they trying to design it so it fit FF as well? That is the lens I am really looking forward to.

  • Warren

Hard one to pin down Patrick. I bought the 14mm, 23mm and 55-200mm, plus an X100S and finally the Xe-2 on a lark. It was a close choice between the X100S & the 23/1.4 In the end I voted for the 23mm. All of these things are wonderful in their own way. But the 23mm just shines for me.

  • OD

The time is near next half of December. If Fuji has the plan to postpone the release of 10-24mm, they should clearly announce the information for the users. It is not a good idea to be quiet at this time. There are many Fuji users including me are waiting for this lens since last end of the year, and the roadmap also shows the clear schedule. If the lens has problems or Fuji may plan to improvement it, I think the users still can accept the delay.

  • zzz

I hope Fuji will make a kind of X100s with 55mm lens in next year.If so, there will be 28mm (with convert lens) , 35mm and 55mm, It is a perfect pack.

  • Lee

Can we have 2 or 3 favorites? I voted for x100s but I also want to vote for x-e2, 23mm, 14mm. I voted for x100s just because I bought one.

A terrorist locks you in the room with four other people: your wife, your boss, an old lady and a famous actor. He gives you a gun with one bullet in it, demanding that you kill one person in the room. Who do you kill? Tough choice!

    …a terrorist, of course!

(Just wondering why on Earth we must pick just one item from the list, that’s it))

    • http://X10 Jack

      1) What if you miss?

      2) What if the terrorist isn’t in the room? It says he locks “you” in the room with… none of the people listed is the terrorist.

      • http://trentontalbot.me/ Trent

        1) I am a pretty good shot.

        2) Call me paranoid, but your boss looks very suspicious…

        3) As of right now, we are wandering into the sinister ghettos of Offopicland. Let’s get back to civilization.

  • Jonavin

Tough call. I could go with any of the current top 4.

  • DTB

For me, it is definitely the 23mm or the 14mm. I tried them both yesterday, and I must add them both to my collection. I do, however, want a 90mm f/1.4 and a 135mm f/1.8 or f/2. While the 55-200mm is a nice lens, I am not a fan of variable aperture. They should have made it a fixed f/2.8, irrespective of how much bigger it would have been.

  • Luzid

The cause of the delay of the 10-24 may be that Fuji need weather sealed lenses for the DSRL like Xcamera. They can start with 10-24/4.0 and 24-75/2.8 and later 75-200/2.8

  • Geoff

I’m quite surprised so little people thrilled by the X-M1.
My favorite camera was and will apparently be for a while the D3s…but I never used it for my leisure…just too big and heavy for a non-professional use. For the latter, I used to bring my D700 + 1 or 2 prime lenses with me….still big and heavy…

Then came the X-M1 with high ISO performance on par with the D700 + so small and light…a breeze!!!!

Performance-wise, same as X-Pro1 / X-E1 (and much cheaper) I believe…except for the viewfinder…but there is a tiltable screen, great for creative and over the head shots!

Not a big issue, but something is wrong with the poll system: 9 votes = 0% but 6 votes at the bottom = 1%

  • Phil

My vote goes to the X-E1 that sold throughout most of 2013. Why is it missing along with current cameras like the X-Pro1?

  • http://www.RecordProduction.com RecordPro

23mm for me but if I could have 2 more goes then I’d choose X100s and 14mm. I’m not spending any more money on Fuji until the X Pro 2 finally comes out, hopefully with greater dynamic range, more pixels and an adjustable diopeter viewfinder.
