Fujinon XF70-300mmF4-5.6 in Stock – Limited Number (4)

Due to the shortage in parts announced by Fujifilm (an issue that every electronic company in the world has right now), lots of Fujifilm gear is hard to find in stock.

Especially the most recently announced gear is widely unavailable.

Little curiosity: a long time and good friend of mine owns a little company that makes graphite components for the ovens needed to make silicon wafers, and he told me he has so much work right now that semiconductor facotries worldwide are tring to match the chip-demand.

With that said, one of the gear that is hard to find in stock, is the Fujinon XF70-300mmF4-5.6, which is not available at BHphoto here and Adorama here, but a limited number (4) is available at the time of this post at AmazonUS here.

In the last few weeks, I see more and more images taken with this lens at our facebook groups. And I must say what probably most impressed me, are its macro capabilities. Just go to any of our X series facebook groups linked below, search inside the group for “70-300 macro” and be amazed by what you’ll see,

And just overall, the XF70-300mm seems to be a great performer. Down below you can see some customer review ratings.

Gosh, I spend all my holiday/tavel/free time/restaurants money saved in 2020/2021 in gear already (GFX100S, GF64-32, XF80 macro, XF27mmF2.8MKII), and I am trying to save my marriage by not purchasing any new gear this year, but the XF70-300mm is one of my top temptations of 2021 along with the GF100-200, the GF50mmF3.5 and also my Nr.1 temptation, the X-E4.

How Fujifilm Could Improve their Fujinon XF Lens Roadmap

FR-reader Roberto contacted me with a long and very interesting email regarding on how Fujifilm should develop their lens lineup in future. In fact, I thought it is a pity if I’d discuss this topic only via email with him, so I’d love to extend the conversation to the entire FujiRumors community.

Also, it is a known fact that Fujifilm reads FujiRumors, not only thanks to the fact that high ranked Japanese manager “love” Fujirumors, but also because they look at our survey and use them internally, in some cases even implemented 1:1 the lens wishes the FujiRumors community wanted in their official roadmap.

No wonder, as there is no place on the web that connects so many Fujifilm shooters like here on FujiRumors.

FujiRumors is the best place for Fujifilm to get online feedback from their customers, and knowing this, we take full advantage of it, also by sharing articles like the one Roberto wrote for us, which I think contains some interesting feedback that will end up discussed internally by Fujifilm, and who knows, maybe at some point will also become reality.

So, Roberto did his job wonderfully, I do mine and share it here… but now it’s your time to do yours, by reading the article and discussing it in the comments.

Fujifilm X-H2 with 8K to Cost Less than Panasonic GH6 with 6K

I am not a micro four thirds hater.

On the contrary!

In my journey on the search to the perfect mirrorless system, I happened to shoot also Panasonic. I didn’t love it as much as Olympus (my first mirrorless love), but it was anyway a very nice and capable system.

And in fact, the whole MFT system is more capable than many might think. It is incredibly compact, it often has top notch AI features (the smaller the sensor makes AI easier), quite frankly it also has a more than decent image quality, a 4:3 aspect ratio that I personally really like and more Pros which we won’t touch on here.

I genuinely suffered to see Olympus go and from my heart I hoped that Panasonic will be able to keep the MFT system alive and flourishing.

This is why I was intrigued by the development announcement of the Panasonic GH6, hoping it would be a real beast and guarantee some success for the MFT system.

Now, FujiRumors is not the place to discuss the Panasonic GH6 specs (this is the place), but I have to mention two details announced by Panasonic about the upcoming GH6

  • Panasonic GH6 will shoot 6K
  • Panasonic GH6 will be priced around $2,500

After the GH6 pre-announcement, I had a talk with sources, and you bet we talked also about the Fujifilm X-H2.

They told me that the Fujifilm X-H2 will cost less than the Panasonic GH6, hence less than $2,500.

And as we already told you in the past, the Fujifilm X-H2 is supposed to be able to shoot also 8K DCI/UHD.

TIPA AWARDS 2021: Awards for Fujifilm, Sony, Canon, Nikon, Sigma, Panasonic, Pentax, Tamron, Laowa and More

TIPA has worked very hard and made a brutal selection, in which only the very best of the crème de la crème of the top of the top could win their extremely prestigious TIPA award.

Or in other words: camera companies paid again a lot of money to win meaningless awards.

And in order to make it even easier for companies to win (and hence make more money by selling award licenses), they created tons of categories, such as “expert”, “advanced” and “professional”.

Now to the winners.

TESTED: Can Fujifilm X Lenses Cover a Bigger Sensor?

Fellow FR-reader Alik Griffin contacted me in regards to a test he made aimed to investigate one thing: is the Fujinon XF lenses image circle big enough to cover a larger sensor?

So he put put a bunch of Fujifilm APS-C prime lenses on the full-frame Nikon Z6 using a Fujifilm X to Nikon Z adapter to see what sort of image circle the different lenses produced.

Down below the results in short, the link to the full tests (so you can see exactly how much each lens covers) and some thoughts.

Aperture seems to be wide open on all the lenses.

Fujifilm Wins “iF Design Award” with Record Number of 23 Products Including “Film Simulations Function”

News is news, so I share it. But I wrote a very informative piece about these awards in the past. So, if you want to read how the business around (some of these) awards goes, check out this article.

A little addendum to my earlier article: Fujifilm recently won tons of Red Dot Awards. As you can see from the Red-Dot page itself here, Fujifilm had to pay up to €6,000 to “win” a single prize. I am pretty sure that there is a FR-reader out there, who could have developed a fantastic camera remote App if Fujifilm would have given him/her $6K.

These awards are a mere (and effortless) money machine for those, who run them, and they’d award even a garbage can as top innovation of the year, if somebody paid for that. They are meaningless.

And yet, news is news, so I have to share it. But at least you know what I think about them.

Fujinon X Mount Roadmap 2021/2022 Updated with Latest Rumored Lenses

The Hidden X Mount Roadmap

Many people complain that Fujifilm is not updating its lens roadmap.

And since I love my community to be happy, let me take over the job that Fujifilm refuses to do.

Also, in the comments to our earlier posts some fellow FR-readers asked me if, in the light of the latest rumors, the timeline for other lenses is still confirmed or if something changed.

So let me sum it up clearly in a sort of unofficial roadmap today, by listing all future X mount lenses that we rumored so far on FujiRumors.

Of course I am working to add more lenses to the list. So definitely stay tuned on FujiRumors.

The Future Looks Good

It’s a couple of years that Fujifilm hasn’t been so active on the Fujinon X mount lens front.

Look at what we got in the last few months (late 2020 / early 2021)

And that’s not even all for 2021. In fact, surely we will get the XF33mm F1.4 R WR. But will there be even more in 2021? FujiRumors is investigating and will let you know.

Also 2022 seems interesting, thanks to two highly desired MKII lenses and an intriguing Fujinon XF150-600mm. Plus, also for 2022 I am working on more, so expect updates.

BREAKING: Fujifilm Working on Fujinon XF56mm f/1.2 MKII

According to our very helpful sources (THANKS!!!), along with the Fujinon XF23mm f/1.4 MKII, Fujifilm is right now working also on the Fujinon XF 56mm f/1.2 MKII.

To me, this comes rather surprising, as Fujifilm has just recently launched the Fujinon XF50mm f/1.0 WR, making, in my opinion, a refresh of the original XF 56mmF1.2 not an urgent matter.

As an owner of the XF56mmF1.2 myself, I can say that optically this lens is an absolute gem, but sure there are other areas, where it could need some improvements, like autofocus and weather sealing.

However, if I was to buy a portrait lens today, I’d probably just get together those extra $500 bucks and go for the XF50mmF1.0.

But that’s just me. I can totally understand if the XF56mmF1.2 MKII would be your personal top pick. Smaller price, more compact body and maybe even faster autofocus due to smaller glass elements.

As there are good reasons to go for the XF 50mm f/1.0, there are also many other good reasons to go for the XF 56mm f/1.2. It really comes down to personal needs and preferences, and hence there is no “right” or “wrong” answer.

Fujifilm is currently offering lots of good stuff in the 50mm prime range:
