LEAKED: First Images of Fujifilm X-T30 Dark Gray and Hands On Images of XF 16mm F2.8, XF 16-80mm F4 and GF 50mm F3.5

Fujifilm X-T30 Leak

The Fujifilm X-T30, to be announced on February 14 along with the Fujinon XF16mm f/2.8, will come not only in the traditional black and silver, but also in a Fujifilm X-Pro2 graphite alike color. You can see the first images here on FujiRumors as well some images of the upcoming XF 16mm f/2.8, XF 16-80mm f/4 and GF 50mm f/3.5 shared by dpreview.

Personally I was never really a super fan of the Fujifilm X-T30 design, but I must say this new color raises its “sexiness” quite a bit.

Fujinon XF 10-24mmF4 vs XF 8-16mmF2.8 (rated F2.8 but more Likely T3.5), XF35/1.4 vs XF35/2 – Fujinon XF Lens Review Roundup

Fujinon XF 8-16mm f/2.8 Reviews

Michael de Maven reviews the Fujinon XF 8-16 f2.8 and compares it to the Fujifilm XF10-24 f4. Is the Fujinon XF 8-16mm f/2.8 worth $2k? Are you better off getting the Fujinon XF10-24mm f/4? Here are his key points:

  • XF 8-16 has lots of lens elements, so lots of engineering went into this
  • 10-24 is half the weight of 8-16
  • 8-16 is front heavy
  • 8-16 better build quality
  • wide open the 10-24 at f/4 slightly sharper in corners than 8-16 at f/2.8. Same at telephoto end
  • at 10mm both at f/5.6 they are close
  • at widest focal length and widest aperture, the 8-16 has a clear advantage in the peripheral center
  • stopped down at f/8, the 8-16 has a big sharpness advantage in peripheral center
  • both lenses very good with chromatic aberration and minimal sun flare in both
  • he talks about F-stop and T-stop. F-stops does not tell us how much light really hits the sensor. The amount of light that really comes through the lens on the sensor is T-stop.
  • with exactly the same exposure settings, the XF8-16mmF2.8 delivers slightly darker results than the XF10-24
  • the XF8-16 is rated f/2.8 but according to his testings it’s probably about a T3.5 lens
  • he ends up recommending the currently $250 discounted XF10-24mmF4 to most people
  • he recommeds the currently $500 disocunted XF8-16mmF2.8 to professional wedding photographers, astro photographers, for architecture (it’s wider) and for landscapes (it’s weather sealed and sharper at f/8, so better for large prints)

Overpriced Fujinon Lenses at Launch? Fujinon XF 8-16mm (save $500) and XF 200mm (save $1,000) and More XF Lens Deals

Fujifilm XF Pricing

We recently compared here the Fujinon XF8-16mmF1.8 and XF 200mm F2 to equivalent full frame DSLR lenses, and we saw that the Fujinon lenses are generally cheaper.

However, the Fujinon XF 8-16mm f/2.8 LM WR was still more expensive than the Sony FE 12-24mm f/4 or the Sigma 12-24mm f/4. You can check out the specs comparison here.

With the latest rebate, though, the Fujinon XF 8-16mm f/2.8 price has been reduced by 25%, and it now beats in terms of pricing also the other full frame lenses.

So the question arose amongst the FujiRumors community: was the Fujifilm XF 8-16mm f/2.8 overpriced at launch?

Difficult to say, since the price is justified or not also depending on factors you can’t really read on specs papers, like image quality, build quality and more.

At the bottom of this article you will find a poll, where you can let us know what you think.

Regarding the Fujinon XF200mm f/2 LM OIS WR, (which is now $1,000 off), I believe the XF200mmF2 launch price was not overpriced, considering how it performs and that it comes with 1.4x teleconverter. But let us know in the poll below.

Fujinon XF 8-16mm F2.8 and XF 200mm F2 Compared to Equivalent Full Frame Glass, Owner Manuals, Reviews and More

Fujinon APS-C vs Equivalent Full Frame Glass

The Fuji year 2018 saw the arrival of two high-end, fast and top quality lenses, the Fujinon XF200mm f/2 LM OIS WR and the Fujinon XF 8-16mm f/2.8 LM WR.

Both Fujinon lenses are still smaller, lighter and cheaper than perfectly equivalent full frame glass, as you can see in this comparison, where we compare the Fujifilm XF200mm f/2 (with 1.4 TC) versus the Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L and the Fujinon XF8-16mm f/2.8 with the Canon EF 11-24mm f/4L USM.

Check out the comparison here.

Price and size is one of the advantages of an APS-C system. For more advantages, read this article.

And as soon as the Fujinon XF33mm f/1.0 hits the market in 2020, Fuji’s APS-C system will have also an equivalent to something like the Nikkor 58mm f/1.4G and the Sigma 50mm f/1.4.

So, that was the fast glass.

But many people, who buy into an APS-C system, probably do it because they look for the best balance between size, weight, price and performance.

Lenses like the Fujinon XF 16mm f/2.8 (which will come soon) and the Fujinon XF 16-80mm f/4 (which will come later), perfectly fit into the philosophy of the “balance“. Great performance in a compact, flexible, portable and affordable package.

My prediction: Fujifilm will sell the XF16mmF2.8 and XF16-80mmF4 like hot cakes, just like they do with their f/2 trinity, the XF23mmF2, XF35mmF2 and XF50mmF2.

Good that Fujifilm is boosting up its lens production by 70%.

But today’s roundup is all for the big and fast guys, the Fujinon XF 8-16mm f/2.8 LM WR and Fujinon XF200mm f/2 LM OIS WR. Enjoy it.

Tony Northrup Fujifilm 2019 Predictions: Fujinon XF 400mm2.8, 70mm1.0, 16-55mm1.8, 50-120mm1.8 and 16mm1.0

Fujifilm 2019 Predictions

It’s time for gear predictions!

Techradar started here, by predicting the Fujifilm X-Pro3 and maybe also the Fujifilm X100F successor in 2019.

Now it’s time for Tony and Chelsea Northrup to predict new gear.

Tony says he noticed a trend at Fujifilm, which is making full frame equivalent fast lenses (XF200mmF2, XF8-16mmF2.8, XF33mmF1.0). Hence, according to his predictions, Fujifilm will launch:

Over a year ago, I told you that Fujifilm will NOT launch more than 2/3 X and 2/3 GF lenses a year (at least not until they finish to expand their lens factories).

And since Fujifilm already has 2 lenses scheduled for this year (the XF16mmF2.8 and XF16-80mmF4), I’d not expect more than 1 “surprise” lens to come (if any).

Fujinon XF8-16mmF2.8 Review: “Sensational IQ in Frame Centre, but $2,000 is too Much”

Fujinon XF8-16mm

The Fujinon XF 8-16mmF2.8 will ship at the end of November, and we have a few more reviews, unboxing and samples on the web.

The most comprehensive review has been shared by lenstip. Overall they think the lens price of $2,000 is not justified.

After the test I find the number of small slip-ups of this lens a bit too high so, I suppose, only lowering of price can help. Of course it doesn’t change the fact the Fujinon remains a very well-done and optically good lens.”

Here are their Pros and Cons:
