Nikon Z5 Full Frame Camera for $1,400: Lots to Love but One Major Downside

Nikon has announced the Nikon Z5 a lovely entry level full frame camera.

You can see a specs comparison with the Fujifilm X-T4 and Canon EOS R6 at BHphoto here.

Dual UHS-II card slot, nice EVF, more affordable than the Fujifilm X-T4, but one rather major downside: it does not have a BSI sensor.

Hence, due to the slower sensor readout, it needs a significant 1.7x crop in 4K/30p, it shoots at 4fps maximum and probably the dynamic range will suffer from that, too. The non BSI-sensor could potentially also affect rolling shutter negatively and just overall slow down the camera plus generate more heat.

Top and bottom plate are made out of plastic, which makes it cheaper to build and lighter, but the camera is still a bit heavier than the full metal Fujifilm X-T4.

Overall a nice addition to the Nikon Z series line-up, and maybe Fujifilm should answer to the Nikon Z5 by releasing a Fujifilm X-TC (random name), a full plastic camera with old sensor technology but dual SD-card, IBIS and lower video specs for $899, in order to compete with the Nikon Z5.

New Viltrox 23mm f/1.4 Released, Will No Longer Damage Your Fujifilm X-Pro3

Back in May, Viltrox issued a statement that their X Mount AF lenses can damage the Fujifilm X-Pro3 and FujiRumors later on reported about a free return service Viltrox offered.

Now they are redesigning those lenses, so that they won’t damage your X-Pro3 anymore (see damage in this post).

Just a few days, Viltrox has also released a MK II version of the 85mm f/1.8. Now the updated Viltrox 23mm f/1.4 AF has been released too.

As you might know, I did switch from Lightroom to Capture One a while back.

I love Capture One’s powerful advanced color editing tool, the X-Trans files rendering, the ability to work on layers, and also little things, such as Capture One automatically recognizes which film simulation I used and automatically applies it to my RAW files at import.

Sure, switching required a learning curve, but there is so much tailored content on youtube that helps you out with that, that it all happened much faster than I would have thought.

For example, check out the advanced color editing tool explained by Phase One (watch video below from 19:44… just click, starts at the right point). It’s something I like to use to fine tune colors (if needed). Moreover, I find it very practical that I can click a color on my image, select and fine tune the color range, and then with 1 simple click create a new layer out of my selected color range, which then I can edit to taste.

With all that said, the best thing ever is simply owning a Fujifilm camera, as that is the best way to shorten your editing time ;).

For example, I recently shared on my IG an image of the picturesque town of Cortona, in Tuscany. I did set my X-T4 on Classic Negative, and later in post all I had to do was to import the file on Capture One, which automatically applied the correct film simulation on the RAW file. I just quickly recovered the highlights to bring back the clouds, and that was it.

Thanks Fujifilm for those wonderful colors and film simulations! I love all the time you save me over and over and over again ;).

Astrophotography with Fujifilm: Get Stellar Results with Fujifilm APS-C and Medium Format Cameras

I have received an email from a fellow member of our Fujifilm Astrophography facebook group, which said:

I was thinking you could perhaps share some of the pics taken on the FB group “Astrophotography with Fujifilm” that you manage. Lots of awesome pictures there! We often hear you need an expensive full frame camera or big telescope, but that’s just wrong, as this group suggests.

That would be great to attract more Fuji shooters to this group, it’s a very nice community where we help each other and learn from our experiences.

Astro can be daunting for the newbie, but it shouldn’t. Also, there aren’t a lot of Fuji shooters in the astro community, so I’m sure it could spread the virus — the good one!

Oh well, here it is.

Fujifilm X Webcam for Mac Released

Fujifilm X webcam for Mac has now been released. This software allows to run all tethering capable Fujifilm cameras as a webcam (all except X-T1, as that one has too old hardware).

The compatible Fujifilm cameras are: GFX100, GFX 50S, GFX 50R, X-H1, X-Pro2, X-Pro3, X-T2, X-T3, X-T4.

Now, Fujifilm offers two different “webcam” solutions:

  • via Fujifilm X Webcam software for tethering capable X/GFX cameras
  • built-in directly in camera, for X-A7 and X-T200

Half a year of rumors is over, and it was probably the most successful we ever had on FujiRumors.
