Testing the Fujifilm GFX in Extreme Conditions, Hcam Double Shifter for GFX, and Stunning Fujifilm Medium Format Images

Fujifilm GFX is Tough (Tougher Than Sony ;) )

We already reported here, how the Fujifilm GFX 50S faced an extreme blizzard, and came out with absolutely no problems ;).

And knowing that the Fujifilm GFX it’s so tough, also our fellow GFX owners at the facebook group are not scared to use it under extreme conditions.

John Rourke for example is not afraid to let his Fujifilm GFX in the snow, as you can see here. Here is what he says about his GFX.

still shooting strong on everyday temperatures of -8 to -17 in Switzerland“.

Another GFX shooter, Graham Welland, took it out in the rain forest. He shares his experience here.

Weatherproof testing in the rain forest, literally pouring rain and dripping camera.

Only problem area was the EVF. A drop of water blocked the eye sensor enough that the LCD flipped to the EVF. Took a minute to work out what had happened (ie camera hadn’t failed) and once I soaked that up we were back in action.”

Looks like the Fujifilm GFX is tougher than the Sony A7RIII, which failed in a recent weather sealing test made by imaging-resource here on youtube.

Hcam Double Shifter

Our Fujifilm GFX group is also a great resource to find any GFX related news, and inspiration of content not only for FujiRumors ;) .

Today we say thanks to Hcam manager Stefan Steib, who informed us in this GFX facebook post of January 22 about the new Hcam Shifter. Full details in this Hcam facebook post.

For all the Fuji GFX Users –

here is our proposal for a double shift version with tilt –
using Mamiya 645, Pentax 645/ 67 or Hasselblad V/F lenses.

It´s a combination of our DRS Shifter for GFX
plus the perfectly matching Mirex M645, P645/ 67
or Hasselblad V/F adapters.

The Kitprice for both adapters is 1695,-€ for all versions.

For more infos please PM me at s.steib@hcam.de

Of course Stefan is actively replying and answering all the questions regarding this adapter, so feel free to join the discussion here.

I know, here on FujiRumors we were the first to report about potential quality issues on the Fujifilm GFX lenses, also thanks to the feedback from out Fujifilm GFX facebook community.

However, while the reports are out there, and we reported about them, there are also many, who do not have any kind of issue, and they keep up sharing fantastic work every minute at our GFX group… non stop!

It is my pleasure to invest a few hours today, to go through the latest images, pick out the most liked ones for you and make a blog post out of them. All this beauty has to be shared :)

FUJIFILM at Imaging USA 2018. Expect to See Updated XF 8-16mmF2.8, XF 200mmF2 and GF250mmF4 Mock-Ups – UPDATE

Fujifilm at Imaging USA 2018

UPDATE: Sadly there are not upcoming lenses displayed at the imaging USA.

In the last few years, Fujifilm skipped the CES fair in Las Vegas.

They will, however, have a public booth (Nr. 717) at the Imaging USA 2018, which will be open to the public between January 14 and 16 in Nashville, TN.

That’s a bit too early to see the Fujifilm X-H1 (which will be announced February 15 Tokyo time), but there is a lot of great stuff to see, starting from the Fujifilm GFX 50S to the Fujifilm X-E3 as well as some brand new lenses like the XF80mm F2.8 WR.

I do expect that they will also display some updated mock-ups (or even early working prototypes) of the upcoming XF8-16mm, XF200mmF2 and GF250mm.

We could see some mock-ups of these lenses already in the past. I share them for you again here:

If there is any FujiRumors reader attending the event, please feel free to share what you see and heard with us via fujirumor@gmail.com.

It would be a very welcome help.

Fujifilm has just issued an official press release sharing their schedule for the Imaging USA 2018, which includes not only the latest and greatest Fujifilm gear, but also free head shot studio sessions, speeches and more.

Dear Fujifilm, Time for Some “Gold Badged” Fujinon Lenses… or a Love Letter to XF33mmF1.0

The eXodus to Fujifilm

*** Since my Love letter to the X-E3 back in 2016, along with your support, was successful to keep the X-E line alive, let’s try it again with the XF33mmF1.0 ;) ***

Recently, Tony Northrup said here:

If you [Fujifilm] do that [F1.8 zooms] and give me a sensor stabilized camera, that would put you in the same league as Full Frame Canon, Nikon and Sony and we can see a lot of professional photographers switching over to your bodies.”

Now, there is a thing I agree with, and one I don’t agree.

I don’t agree with statement that “lot of professional photographers” will switch to Fujifilm, once they release fast F/1.8 zooms.

The eXodus from other systems to Fujifilm is already happening, and there are lots reports out there already about professional CaNikon shooters switching to Fujifilm. In fact, I guess that many of you guys reading this blog might have such a switch story to share, too.

I agree, however, that despite offering the vastest lens range in the mirrorless APS-C world, there are still some lacks to close, and there are some photographers, who still need THAT particular lens, before they can switch to Fujifilm completely…

… and Fujifilm now has to “attack” those niches… with niche glass.

The upcoming XF200mmF2 is one of these lenses. Tilt shift lenses are missing, too. And as Tony says, probably there are also some waiting for a fast F1.8 zoom lens before they feel comfortable to switch completely to Fujifilm.

With that said, I believe that for most professional photographers, the current lens lineup is big and various enough to switch 100% to Fujifilm.

But even those, who already switched 100% to Fujifilm, still have ideas and wishes for future lenses.

In fact we even launched a gigantic future lens poll, with about 1,000 lens wishes you guys shared and I condensed into a selection of 30 lenses you could vote on. The results can be found here.

Gold Badged Lenses

No matter if you agree with Tony Northrup or not, in any case he made a good thing to raise the question, what is needed to make the Fuji X system appealing also to those photographers, who still hesitate to switch to Fujifilm.

So I thought about it… and here is what I think Fujifilm needs above all else.

A few super fast “Gold Badged” lenses, such as the XF33mmF1.0, a lens that disappeard from Fujifilm’s internal roadmap, in favor of the smaller and cheaper F2 Fujicron lenses.

I know that inside Fujifilm, there are a few, who insist to make the XF33mmF1.0, but it’s hard to convince the decision-makers at Fujifilm to take “risks” with an expensive glass, when all those nice little and affordable F2 lenses bring so much money to Fujifilm.

But now that 2018 is here, it’s time to express some wishes, and I would love to see a new Fujinon line of gold badged lenses, so that Fuji’s lineup would be like this:

  • regular XF lenses
  • small weather sealed F2 XF Fujicron lenses
  • affordable XC lenses
  • red badged made in Japan weather sealed zoom lenses like the XF50-140 and XF16-55
  • gold badged ultra fast lenses like the XF33mmF1.0

And to be clear… Fujifilm is already offering many fast F1.2 and F1.4 lenses. And personally, for my needs, this is plenty of fast enough.

But having some even faster and “extreme” options never hurts.

And yes, even with an 33/1 lens, many of us would maybe end up using the smaller XF35mmF2 more often anyway, but we would know that, just in case, we’d have that ultra-speedy F1 lens option available anytime.

So, I know Fujifilm I am stressing and stalking you with this request… but in the name of many Fujifilm lovers out there, please, put that nice XF33mmF1.0 lens back on your roadmap for 2018/2019.

I guarantee you, that once it’s out, many of us will have one of those “Shut Up and Take my Money” moments :) .

Fujifilm Plans 10/15 more Lenses for GFX in the Next 5 Years… and Correcting More Wrong Rumors

I’m in the rumor world since many years now, and I know it’s not easy to share accurate information. It’s way more complicated than you think.

This is why I never shout “fake clickbait rumors“, when I read some wrong rumors that surface on the web.

All I do in those cases, is to correct those wrong rumors, so that you guys have an accurate idea of what Fujifilm is going to launch (or not).

And today, it’s my job to correct some wrong rumors that I think have been shared with good will, but are nevertheless wrong.

I have the choice to leave them wrong, or correct them. And I decided to correct them. With great respect to the source though, who I think shared really what it heard.

No shitstorm, no hate, just a little help to get closer to the truth (and I know that it’s not easy, believe me).

Wrong Rumor 1
25/30 lenses for GFX in the next 5 years?

GFX lovers, don’t have too high expectations. Fujifilm will not have 25 or even 30 GF lenses in total within the next 5 years.

The current schedule is to release 2/3 GF lenses a year, so this means maximum 10 to 15 GF more lenses will be added in the next 5 years.

Add to these 10/15 lenses the current 6 GF lenses, and we will have from 16 to a maximum of 21 GF lenses 5 years from now (not bad at all!)

But the only way for Fujifilm to have a total of 30 GF lenses 5 years from now, would be to stop developling lenses for X-mount ;)

Wrong Rumor 2
GF 80-180 ?

Sorry guys, Fujifilm has no plans for such a lens. Again, I invite you to check out this secret GF roadmap (which shows a 100-200 lens, though ;) ). There is no GF 80-180 on Fuji’s internal roadmap.

Wrong Rumor 3
Fujifilm X-H1 will have a different processor?

Nope. It’s the same X Processor Pro used in X-T2, GFX, X-Pro2 etc. I might publish a more in-depth article later on about this. But at the end of the day there is no doubt that the X-H1 will get its power from the good old X Processor Pro.

Message to source I have corrected

I have corrected some of your rumors, and publicly on FujiRumors I can’t say more than this.

But privately and confidentially, and of course only with permission of my sources, I can give you a more in-depth and detailed insight behind the scenes of what my current Fuji long-term knowledge is and if you want we can compare our knowledge.

If you want, feel free to contact me via email creating a fake email account if you feel more comfortable.

Message to sources in general

As I said above… rumors are always complicated. So even if you think “Ah, Patrick will probably already know it”, don’t hesitate to contact me. Given the amount of fake rumors I get, even every double/triple confirmation I can get is extremely useful for me.

stay tuned… the best has yet to come :)

Fujifilm GFX 50S Vs. Blizzard? No Problem :: Sony A7RIII Vs. Fuji GFX Dynamic Range :: Sports with GFX :: Nikon User Shoots GFX

Fujifilm GFX 50S Faces the Elements

Check out the Josselin Cornou video blog at untitledshot Youtube and some images at Instagram here and here.

TLDR :

  • Fujifilm GFX50s – Kipon EF-GFX – Tamron 15-30mm survived -15C (5 Fahrenheit) with 110km/h (70 mph) wind. It stayed out in the cold for 40min+ when the setup was literally frosting (2 times 15mn exposure, few 30s exposures).
  • Tamron 15-30mm is behaving really well with the Fujifilm GFX. From 18mm-30mm it’s really sharp and still really usable in the corner. I found it sharper in the center than with the Fuji 32-64mm@32mm.
  • So yes I definitely recommend using High definition lenses full frame for the GFX. Most of them are upscaled design to get the extras sharpness – which means that they fit Medium format.
  • And the GFX just behaved really well at those conditions, impressively well actually! (no bug, no crash, no shutdown, etc.). Having up to 60mn exposure is definitely a plus.

Sony A7R3 Vs Fujiflm GFX Dynamic Range Test at PhotonsToPhotos

The Fujifilm GFX still beats the Sony A7RIII, but as reported by SonyAlphaRumors here, things change when using pixel shift, which makes the A7rIII gain extra dynamic range.

The data:

While Fujifilm will release an IBIS camera soon, it won’t have (at least for its start) sensor shift technology.

But it’s Fuji’s first generation of IBIS… give it time, and I’m confident we will get also pixel shift, on both, APS-C and MF cameras.
