Fujifilm Manager: “70% of GFX Users Came from Full Frame. X-H and X-T Line Will Both Evolve in Future” – Hope for Fujifilm X-H2

Fujifilm GFX100

Fujifilm Channel X has published an 45 minutes interview with Fujifilm managers from Fujikina 2019. See the video above (sadly not so good audio quality) and a summary down below.

Fujifilm GFX 100: B&H Photo, AmazonUS, Adorama, Focuscamera, CalumetDE, ParkcamerasUK, JessopsUK, PCHstore

The Market

  • Fujifilm GFX100 market is not the traditional medium format market
  • GFX 50 already aimed to amateur customers in addition to high-end photography
  • 70% of Fujifilm GFX 50R/S buyers come from full frame. So not only people switch from Hasselblad and Phase One to GFX, but also FF users
  • the GFX system expanded the larger format market, and GFX100 will continue to expand it
  • GFX100 should expand market also towards movie shooting photographer

The GFX100 strenghts

  • compared to full frame, GFX system has better image quality in terms of ISO performance, dynamic range and resolution
  • traditionally large format camera (including film) are big and for tripod use, but GFX system is smaller, and GFX100 has also IBIS, hence less need for tripod
  • GFX100 is about autofocus, mobility, quality

EVF

  • Fujifilm GFX 50 EVF works on GFX100, but GFX100 EVF on GFX50 will not work

Fujifilm GFX100

The mega Fujiflm GFX100 live blogging is over, and frankly rarely I have been that blown away by a Fujifilm announcement.

And while we all know the main specs now, the 100 megapixel, the 16 bit files, the integrated grip, the huge EVF, I thought I focus on 14 things that you might have missed due to the huge amount of information spreading all over the web.

All the information below can be found in links shared in our GFX100 live blog.

Fujifilm X-H2 may NOT Even Come in 2020

Fujifilm X-H2

Here on FujiRumors we already told you in November 2018 here, that the Fujifilm X-H2 will not come in 2019.

Now a new source told me that the Fujifilm X-H2 may not even come out in 2020.

The Fujifilm X-H1 is in my opinion a great camera, and with the new price tag, it is absolutely fantastic value for money. But sadly the Fuji X-H1 was not a financial success and let’s see what the future of this line will be.

TO ANONYMOUS / NEW SOURCES: Thanks for what you told me about the Fujifilm X-H2. It is not yet included in this rumor, since it’s fresh and I need to make my mandatory checks. But even if I won’t be able to confirm, I will share at some point. Thanks a lot.

DPReviewTV Fujinon XF 8-16mm f/2.8: “Optically Fantastic, but for Most People the Fujinon XF 10-24mm F4 is a Better Choice”

DRPreview TV reviewed the Fujinon XF 8-16mm f/2.8. Here are their findings:

  • professional line of Fujinon lenses
  • well-built, heavy and expensive
  • well suited for cameras like Fujifilm X-H1
  • manual focus ring feels sloppy
  • no OIS, but it’s typical for lenses in this range. But they miss it anyway, unless used on X-H1 with IBIS
  • XF 10-24 more well suited for lighter bodies and has OIS
  • no filter threads, typical for lenses that wide
  • powerful autofocus motors. Fast and accurate
  • coma very well corrected, excellent for astrophotography and cityscape
  • vignetting and distortion very well corrected
  • sunstars are not bad, but not the best they have seen
  • close focusing is similar to the XF10-24 (9 feet)
  • XF8-16 optically fantastic, very sharp
  • 8mm at f/2.8 a little bit weird in the corners, but stopping down cleans up beautifully
  • wide open it is sharper than the XF10-24, but stopped down difference gets smaller
  • It’s admirable that Fujifilm gives us lenses that give us full frame equivalent look, like the Sony 12-24mm f/4 G
  • the Sony 12-24 is lighter and $300 cheaper
  • if you want FF look in APS-C, you are not going to save money
  • for most people, the XF 10-24mm F4 is a better choice, since landscape you stop down anyway
  • XF 8-16mm F2.8 is a niche lens

Fujinon XF 8-16mm f/2.8 (save $100): BHphoto, Adorama, AmazonUS, Focuscamera
Fujinon XF 10-24mmF4 OIS (save $100): BHphoto, AmazonUS, Adorama, FocusCamera

Matt Granger Dislikes the Fujifilm GFX50R, ePhotozine Highly Recommends it as Step Up from Full Frame and More – GFX50R Roundup

Fujifilm GFX 50R Roundup

Yes, I am a Fuji fanboy, otherwise I would not have opened FujiRumors in times, where many of you probably didn’t even knew that Fujifilm makes digital mirrorless cameras.

But this does not stop me from sharing everything, the good and the bad, that people say about Fujifilm.

In today’s roundup, 100% focused on the Fujifilm GFX 50R (which now costs $3,999 only!), I will share a huge amount of Fuji GFX50R reviews.

On the positive side, we notice the ePhotozine review, which highly recommends the Fujifilm GFX 50R and says:

Delivering medium format image quality, the camera is a step up in performance compared to a full-frame DSLR or mirrorless camera, with excellent noise control, and exceptional levels of detail possible. […] the next step up in image quality […] Highly Recommended

Also lensrentals is happy and says:

Incredible price point for camera and exceptional image quality

On the negative side, we can find Matt Granger’s review, who says it has the “worst ergonomics on any camera he ever used” and he is disappointed with its focus tracking capabilities. He does not recommend to buy this camera.

Matt has spoken very good about Fujifilm many times in the past, so do not start attacking him about being a Nikon/Sony fanboy or biased in any way. It’s just his opinion after having used the camera.

Fujinon XF 33mm f1.0 and XF 16-80mm f4 Hands On Video

At Photoforum 2019 in Moscow, a Russian youtuber went hands on with the Fujinon XF 33mm f/1.0 R WR and XF 16-80mm f/4.

The youtuber had a chat with the Fuji rep, that the automatic google translation tool has a hard time to tranlsate, so if any Russian FR-reader has some spare time to do something good for the FR-community, feel free to drop your translation in the comments down below.

Until then, all I could get is that apparently the youtuber, after handling the XF33mm f/1.0, says:

  • it feels like around 800g weight“.
Update with translation by FR reader
  • 33/1.0 dummy represents weight and size for now. Guess it will be pretty expensive. Awaiting next year
  • 16-80 will be affordable lens with extendable barrel (dummy shows folded state only). Also said that 16-80 will be lightweight lens for travellers and videographers

Of course the unit shown is just a dummy (the lens is on the roadmap for 2020), but dummies are usually accurate representations of the lens in terms of size, look and weight.

With that said, it’s still a long way, so there might be changes in size and weight until the final Fujinon XF33mm f/1.0 hits the market in 2020, and dummies we see later on this year might look different than the early ones we see now.

Regarding the Fujinon XF 16-80mm f/4, I remind you that Fujifilm said it will come this fall.

Check out the video above, which will skip the initial part of X-T30 and 16/2.8 introduction and jump straight to the XF33mmF1 and XF16-80mmF4.

How to Save and Restore Your Camera Settings

How to Save & Restore Camera Settings

Every now and then I get emails from fellow Fujifilm X Shooters, complaining that their camera settings get completely deteleted. There are several reasons this can happen:

  • after firmware update (it should not happen, but it can)
  • discharging of the small build-in internal battery: happens if you leave your camera too long without battery. In case of new cameras, give it a long first charge, or settings will delete shortly after battery has been removed

So the first thing you can do, is to avoid the errors we mentioned above.

And yet, sometimes it’s not a user error (see firmware update), so you better have a Plan B in case all your settings get lost, and in our case, our Plan B is called Fuji X Acquire.

And since just right after the Fujifilm X-T3 firmware update, some FR-readers couldn’t find the back-up feature, I thought I share a quick guide on how to save & restore your Fujifilm camera settings using Fujifilm X Acquire.

Fujifilm X Photographer Shares Fujinon XF 33mm f/1.0 Image on Instagram. Beta Testing Started?

Fujinon XF 33mm f/1.0

Russian wedding photographer and official Fujifilm X photographer Alexey Malyshev (instagramfujifilm profile) just shared this instagram story, where he publicy asks people to guess which lens is mounted on his Fujifilm X-T3 (or maybe X-T2).

He gave us a hint: it’s not for sale yet.

Easy, this is definitely the Fujifilm Fujinon XF 33mm f/1.0 R WR lens, which is scheduled for 2020 release.

I am not sure, but Alexey posts could indicate that the beta testing program just started, but it could also be just a dummy*. In any case I will follow his instagram now, and in case I see images with razor thing DOF, I will let you know ;).

*UPDATE: Jonas Rask said in the comments to this post it is just a dummy, since it does not mount properly

Would be great if any Russian FR-reader could entirely translate what Alexey wrote in his instagram story [UPDATE: translation came in, thanks. Read below].

Who can guess what lens it is? If lens will be guessed, I gonna show some new super gun. Hint: It’s not even for sale yet.
