These are Your Top X and GFX Camera Wishes for 2023 – and They are Quite Clear on What You Want!

I’ve looked at the results of your future X camera wish and future GFX camera wish.

Here they are… and what they tell us.

X series

  1. X-Pro4 with 40MP
  2. X100V with 40MP
  3. X-Pro4 with 26MP stacked

GFX gear

  1. GFX100R with 102 MP BSI stacked sensor
  2. GFX100T with 102 MP BSI stacked sensor (the X-T styled GFX concept)
  3. GFX100S with 102 MP BSI stacked sensor

Conclusion for X series

There is a tendency to prefer more megapixel over more speed. And as a Fujifilm X-T5 owner myself, I can understand why: the X-T5 is plenty of fast enough for most of us thanks to the brand new processor. Plus, the 40MP sensor gives us the best dynamic range on any X series camera.

But most importantly, the list is dominated by rangefinder cameras.

So, after a year full of DSLR styled cameras (X-T5, X-H2 and X-H2s), people are hungry to see something happening on the rangefinder front… and I am totally with you guys!

Conclusion for GFX series

Stacked sensor makes the top of the list. Which means that contrary to the X series, for the GFX series people desire more speed rather than more resolution.

List of Fujifilm Related Gear launched in 2022

Dear FUJIFILM, We Decided: Make These 6 X-Mount Lenses Next!

It’s pure sadness.

I mean, if you look at the current X mount lens roadmap, it is just sadness, with only one X mount lens stoically standing all alone trying to keep up excited about the future.

So we decided to help Fujifilm in gathering some ideas, and you guys dropped hundreds of lens suggestions for the future here, which I then summed up in 40 options to vote on here.

Well, here are the results:

TOP 6 LENSES OVERALL:

  1. XF 23mm f/2 Pancake (fan made rendering here)
  2. XF 16-55mm f/2.8 MK II
  3. XF 18mm f/2 MK II
  4. XF 12mm f/1.4
  5. XF 16-35mm f/2
  6. XF 11-30mm f/2.8

There were really a lot of suggestions in the wide angle zoom range. So many, that I decided to give 2 options to vote on, the XF16-35mm f/2 and the XF 11-30mm f/2.8.

But if we were to merger even those two lenses into one single lens, we could get something like the XF 14-30mm f/2.0. In that case, we would have the following result.

  1. XF 14-30mm f/2.0
  2. XF 23mm f/2 Pancake (fan made rendering here)
  3. XF 16-55mm f/2.8 MK II
  4. XF 18mm f/2 MK II
  5. XF 12mm f/1.4
  6. XF 70mm f/2 (fan made rendering here)

TOP 6 PRIMES:

  1. XF 23mm f/2 Pancake
  2. XF 18mm f/2 MK II
  3. XF 12mm f/1.4
  4. XF 70mm f/2
  5. XF 10mm f/2
  6. XF 35mm f/1.2

TOP 6 ZOOMS:

  1. XF 16-55mm f/2.8 MK II
  2. XF 16-35mm f/2
  3. XF 11-30mm f/2.8
  4. XF 16-70mm f/2.8-4
  5. XF 16-135mm f/4
  6. XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4 MK II

And if we were to merge the two lenses as we did above, we would get:

  1. XF 14-30mm f/2.0
  2. XF 16-55mm f/2.8 MK II
  3. XF 16-70mm f/2.8-4
  4. XF 16-135mm f/4
  5. XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4 MK II
  6. XF 23-55mm f/2

CONCLUSIONS
Wide Angle Reality vs Telephoto Dreams

When you go around in forums, you’ll often see people complaining about Fujifilm not offering enough long lenses.

And to a certain degree I agree with you: long primes especially are needed!

But then there is the reality.

And the reality is that the vast majority of Fujifilm shooters simply do not see long lenses as a priority. What they really want is the total opposite: more wide angle zooms and primes.

We have to be clear about this: any of the lenses that made it to the top of the list in our survey would outsell by a large margin any long prime or zoom lens Fuji would launch.

That’s something Fujifilm knows (and has openly declared here).

And yet, there is at least one lens I feel Fujifilm must give us: the (already patented) Fujinon XF 400mm f/4, which made it in the top 15 of our list and fellow FR-readers already made mock-ups of and it is consistently your top wished telephoto lens.

So, even though it did not make the list, I strongly advice Fujifilm to give us a long prime lens.

DPRTV Best & Worst Cameras and Lenses of 2022: Praise for Fujifilm X-H2s, Blame for XF18-120mmF4 PZ

DPRTV tells us which was the best and worst gear launched in 2022.

The Fujifilm X-H2s establishes itself as the best hybrid camera, as it snaps the first spot in the video camera category and the second spot in the still camera section.

But it’s not all good for Fujifilm. In fact, the Fujinon XF 18-120mm f/4 PZ has been declared the worst lens.

Best Lens

  1. Sony 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II
  2. Sigma 20mm f/1.4 Art DG DN

A pity that none of the four Fujinon lenses launched this year got even a honorable mention.

Best Video Camera

  1. Fujifilm X-H2s
  2. Sony FX30

Fujifilm X-H2s: BHphotoAmazonUSAdorama / Moment

Best Photo Camera

  1. Sony A7rV: they highlight that it is definitely not best as hybrid camera. But this section is for stills only
  2. Fujifilm X-H2s: stacked sensor at a price that can’t be matched by Full Frame. Lovely handling. Greatly improved AF.

Worst Lens

  1. Fujinon XF 18-120mm f/4 PZ: designed as a video lens. It is not as sharp. Chris says it is still a decent lens. But Jordan was dispointed by it. Should be sharper to take the most advantage of 8K of X-H2 or open gate 6.2K of X-H2s.

Fujifilm X-H2/s Victory Parade Begins: CineD Declares X-H2 Best Mirrorless Camera of 2022 and Explora Awards X-H2 and X-H2S

Explora

Oh yes… it’s that time of the year when everybody starts listing the best and worst gear of the year.

The first list we got is this one over at Explora, where the B&H team declared the Fujifilm X-H2 and X-H2s the best cameras of 2022.

  1. Fujifilm X-H2S & Fujifilm X-H2
  2. Sony A7rV
  3. Hasselblad X2D 100C
  4. Leica M11
  5. Panasonic GH6
  6. Canon R6
  7. OM-1
  8. Canon R7
  9. Nikon Z30

You can read why they included both X-H2 and X-H2s on the top spot and what they say about it, read the full article at B&H Explora.

CineD

CineD does not limit themselves to test gear in a lab. Nope, they actually work with the cameras, shoot mini-documentaries and are out on the field with gear that needs to get the job done.

And from all cameras launched in 2022, the one that really stood out for them was the Fujifilm X-H2.

So much so, that they declared it the best mirrorless camera of 2022 (for video).

It’s no surprise that it won over the Fujifilm X-T5, as CineD is more video-centric in their content creation, and for that purpose the Fujifilm X-H2 simply offers more flexibility over the X-T5.

With up to 8K ProRes HQ internal recording and a 40.2MP sensor, this camera is aimed to satisfy the needs of serious content creators. This camera is extremely flexible when it comes to recording formats and resolutions, promising to assist you when negotiating with clients about their final output needs.

This FUJIFILM X-H2 has become an all-rounder for us at CineD. It’s like having a “Swiss Army Knife” at our disposal.

You can read their full article on why they awarded the Fujifilm X-H2 (also over the X-H2s) here at CineD.

VOTE :: The Ultimate Fujifilm APS-C Lens Poll – Let Fuji know What You Want

Dear Fujifilm, Please PAY my Readers with…

Dear Fujifilm headquarter in Japan!

Your management is running short on ideas?

You are debating on which lenses should come next, but can’t really figure out which ones?

Don’t worry, we are here to help you.

The FujiRumors community has done its job wonderfully and dropped hundreds of suggestions in our previous lens wish article.

And to make it even more convenient for you, dear Fujifilm Japan, FujiRumors has isolated himself from life and worked many hours to go through all the suggestions and try to sum them up in a way that it makes sense.

The result is a list of 40 lenses, which now the FR-community will vote on.

And you know what’s best, dear Fujifilm HQ?

We do it all for free!

Yes, Fujifilm. We are just happy to help you.

Although…

… if you really insist to reward us for our work, you could pay us in Kaizen firmware updates for our cameras.. how about that? ;)

How the 40 Lenses Came to Be

It was very tough to come out with this list, as every lens you guys listed has its Pros and Cons.

But launching a survey with hundreds of lenses would be an overkill, so I had to be brutal. I listed all your lenses, grouped them and tried to find a compromise, as you can see in all my papers here.

I ended up with a list of 40 lenses:

So, some lenses might sound a bit unconventional, but they are merger of wishes. Sometimes I had to sacrifice range in order to keep the lens fast, other times I had to sacrifice speed in order to get in a wider focal range.

One Last Suffering… ;)

And if you thought you were done with your hard work, then you were wrong.

I want you to suffer and sweat one more time.

How?

Well, you can drop a maximum of only 3 votes in the survey below.

So think about it, struggle, doubt, hesitate, but at the end all you have are 3 votes. Use them wisely. The Fujifilm management is watching you!

But my Dream Lens is…

Maybe your dream lens might not be in the list, but you might find something similar to it. Drop the vote on the lens that is closest to your wish.

We can always run an additional survey later on, where we include more options for the most voted lenses.

XF vs XC

All lenses (except for XC lenses) are weather sealed. So I will NOT specify that in the survey.

Digital Camera Market Share 2021: Sony Grows Big (+4.9) Fujifilm a Bit (+0.3) and Losses for Canon (-2.1) and Nikon (-2.4)

Every year, Techno System Research, a major marketing research company located in Japan, publishes the worldwide camera market share data.

And while the data is behind a (very expensive) paywall, the main chart (see above) for this year has been published by the Japanese Nikkei.

Digital camera 2021 global market share (compared to 2020) *Techno System Research

  1. Canon … 45.8% (-2.1%)
  2. Sony … 27.0% (+4.9%)
  3. Nikon … 11.3% (-2.4%)
  4. Fujifilm … 5.9% (+0.3%)
  5. Panasonic … 4.4% (±0.0%)

This is the data for the entire digital camera market.

I find the mirrorless ranking more interesting, as it is free of all those DSLRs Canon and Nikon still sells.

For mirrorless only, this is the data we had for 2020:

  • Sony: about 35%
  • Canon: about 30%
  • Fujifilm: about 12%
  • Nikon: about 7%

Once Techno System Research publishes the data for mirrorless cameras only, I will let you know.

via mirrorlessrumors via Nikkei.
