Which 5th Generation Sensor do You Want in the Fujifilm X-T5, X-Pro4, X-E5, X-S20, X-T40, X80, X200?

TOP NEW FUJIFILM DEALS

Maybe it’s just because I haven’t had a decent sleep for weeks. Maybe I am just overthinking it all (but don’t worry, I am recovering greatly now)

But when I re-watched the X Summit, I was confused by the statement the Japanese Fujifilm manager made in regards to the 5th generation 26MP stacked and 40MP non-stacked sensor.

His statement:

there is no other camera platform more suitable to have them both than the ‘X-H” Series

I wondered what he meant by that, and I concluded it could be either one of the 2 options mentioned below:

  1. only the X-H line will offer both sensor options
  2. since the X-H line is the most suitable, it will be the first to feature both sensor options. Other less suitable lines might get both options too, but only later on as the priority is the X-H line
  3. NEW ENTRY: some FR-reader said this is just marketing blah blah blah aimed to sell as many X-H cameras as possible and then both sensors will find its way in most camera lines anyway

I’ve asked you guys in a survey what you think the manager meant, and here is the result of the survey.

SPECULATION (NOT RUMOR): In my eyes, it would make sense to put both sensor options in at least all of Fuji’s higher end models, as ordering the same Sony sensor in larger numbers, helps to push down the cost for each sensor.

But what Fujifilm will decide to do is unknown at this point. And maybe it is even unknown to Fujifilm itself.

And yet…

let’s assume for a moment that the interpretation the majority of you guys gave is correct. So let’s assume that only the X-H line will get both sensor options.

This would mean that in regards to all other lines, Fujifilm would have to make a decision on which sensor to pick for each camera.

And if that would be the case, I can already see lots of head scratching at the Fujifilm HQ trying to figure out which sensor is best for which line.

If that’s really the case, then I thought that the generous FujiRumors community will gladly invest a bit of its time to give Fujifilm its opinion on this matter by commenting on this article and by voting the surveys down below.

Let’s Be Clear: Fujifilm’s Next X Series Camera will be Fujifilm X-H2 and There Won’t be Fujifilm X-T40 or X80 Before that

Let’s talk Fujifilm X-T40.

And let’s talk about it, because, I am receiving emails asking me if it is true, like some wrote, that protoype Fujifilm X-T40 cameras with IBIS are right now being tested and the X-T40 will be released in 2021.

Short answer: fake rumor clickbait ;).

If you’ve read FujiRumors recently, you’ll know the answer already. In fact, we told you that:

The sum of all these rumors gives you the answer already: there is no Fujifilm X-T40 coming in 2021. And not even a Fujifilm X80 or any other Fujifilm X camera.

ATTENTION: I am not saying there won’t ever be an X-T40. What I say is:

  • there won’t be any 26MP X-Trans IV Fujifilm X-T40 or X80 (the X-E4 was the last one)
  • if an X-T40 or X80 will come, then it will have a new sensor/processor and it would come at the same time or after the X-H2 release sometimes in 2022

Look, here is what you can do, to avoid to be mislead in future: only trust Nokishita or FujiRumors. That’s it.

Nokishita has access to press releases and specs sheets once Fujifilm sends them to stores and media, hence it’s a fantastic source for very short term rumors a few days ahead of announcements. FujiRumors on the other hand is here to guide you through the long-, mid- and short term rumors, so that you don’t get many surprises once Nokishita starts to leak, as you’ll already have a pretty clear idea on what is coming and how the specs look like.

Fujicast Interview with Fujifilm Manager: Talking Breakthrough Fujifilm X-H2, X-E4 the Last 26 MP (?), Open Lens Protocols, X80 and More!

The latest Fujicast episode is now online, covering all the current Fujifilm announcements with Fujifilm’s UK Marketing Manager, Andreas Georghiades (GFX100S, GF80mmF1.7, X-E4, XF70-300mm and XF27mmMKII.

But as there is a podcast listener question corner, you can figure out that many questions gravitate towards future Fujifilm products and more. So they touch on Fujifilm X-H2, the open lens protocols, the X80 and more.

Kevin Mullins also speculates that the X-E4 might be the last X series camera featuring the 26MP X-Trans sensor and the manager says that there is indeed not much left to update with the 26MP sensor.

However, nobody knows what the first camera with a new sensor will be. There is still an X-T40 waiting to see the light of the day for example, which is such a loved line, that Fujifilm should definitely continue it in my opinion.

Down below you can find the full podcast as well as a summary:

Fujifilm X-H2, X80, GFX100V, X-Pan, Monochrome and More – FR-Readers Wishlist Corner

Here is another roundup of wishlist shared by the FR-community to me via email at fujirumor@gmail.com.

Previous Wishlist Episodes:

As opposed to the last episode, this time we focus on camera wishes instead of lens wishes.

In this roundup, one particular and recurrent wish finds me totally agreeing with: the need for a Fujifilm X80!

I do hope Fujifilm will understand that the Fujifilm XF10 was not the X70 successor we were waiting for and that they will finally give us an X80.

I mean, Fujifilm should have been able to overcome these X80 issues by now!!!

New Fujifilm Camera FF200003 Registered: Fujifilm X-E4, New Fujifilm GFX or Surprise Camera X-T40 or X80?

Nokishita has just spotted the registration of a new Fujifilm camera.

Fujifilm’s unreleased digital camera “FF200003” has been registered with an overseas certification body. Equipped with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2. (X-S10 is FF200001)

They do not share any other detail, but thanks to exclusive leaks here on FujiRumors, we know that for early 2021 we can expect for sure:

But of course there can be always surprises. A Fujifilm X80? Or a Fujifilm X-A8? Or maybe even the long awaited Fujifilm X-T40? Or is another camera that will surprise us? Maybe even the Fujifilm X-H2 (although I doubt that, as Fujifilm said they want to achieve a breakthrough with the X-H2)?

I will investigate, and see if there is another camera coming up in addition to the ones we already rumored.

In the meantime, feel free to speculate, dream and wish in the comments :)

Hungry for Fujifilm X-H2, Visions for X-T5, Hopes for X80, Modular Fujifilm GFX, Monochrome and More – FR Readers Wishlist Corner

Fujifilm Wishlist Corner

In response to the terrific response to our first FR-readers wishlist corner article and the massive feedback I have received via email by fellow Fuji X/GFX shooters, here is the second episode of this series.

This series is all about your wishes about future Fujifilm cameras, lenses, firmware features and whatever you desire to see in Fuji’s future.

As I did receive tons of emails last time, I will focus this FR-readers wishlist corner mainly on cameras… lenses and firmware will follow at a later point.

The Hunger for X-H2

It’s interesting to note that most of the wishes gravitate around the Fujifilm X-H2, proving that there is a huge “hunger” for a Fujifilm X-H1 successor.

The (now discontinued) Fujifilm X-H1 was initially a disaster in terms of sales. However, X-H1 sales revived later on thanks to terrific deals that gave it a sales-glory-moment.

The reason for the overall failure of the Fujifilm X-H1 was not its concept, but its timing: a few months later the Fujifilm X-T3 followed with new sensor and processor. I never understood this move by Fujifilm.

And yet, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the Fujifilm X-H1, which, I remind you, snapped the top winning image at the World Press Photo awards.

I am strongly convinced that with the Fujifilm X-H2, Fuji is sitting on a potentially big winner.

Many X shooters would like a Fujifilm X-H2 right now, but as FujiRumors always told you, you have to be patient. Fujifilm is not going to repeat the errors made in the past. When the Fujifilm X-H2 will hit the market, it will be the right moment, have the right features and give the X-H line the position it deserves: right on the top of the high end X series line-up!

What’s Next?

Do you have wishes about the Fujifilm future, too? Well, then write me at fujirumor@gmail.com.

Have a wonderful weekend,
Patrick

Fujifilm X80: Kevin Mullins Explains Why he Needs One after Damaging his Fujifilm X70

Fujifilm XF10

Yes I know, here on FujiRumors we already told you about the Fujifilm XF10, a camera, similar in size to the X70, and yet it can’t be considered an XF10 successor, because it has no X-Trans sensor and especially because it has not a Selfie Screen.

Considering the XF10 without Selfie screen a successor to the X70 would be like considering the X-Pro3 without hybrid viewfinder a successor to the X-Pro2.

And indeed, the fact that Fujifilm decided to give the camera an all new name and not X70s or X80, is indication that Fujifilm itself won’t market it as a real X70 successor.

I am sorry guys… for as much love I have for Fujifilm, I simply can’t understand this camera.

And since I am not at all part of Fuji’s marketing machine, but I write what I want when I want with the same freedom of when I started this blog 6+ years ago, I will use my freedom to criticise the XF10.

However, even though I am on holidays, I will live blog on July 5th to cover the Fujifilm XF10 launch.

Fujifilm X80

The only worthy successor to the X70 should be called X70s or X80.

At this stage, I have no information if Fujifilm has plans to make an X80 or not. But there are people, who certainly hope it will see the light of the day, such as Kevin Mullins.

After seriously damaging his Fujifilm X70, a camera that Kevin Mullins really likes and uses also for his pro work at weddings, Kevin started crossing his fingers for an X80.

He shared a video on his youtube channel here explaining why he needs an X80 and what improvements he would like to see over the X70, as well as a blog post at f.16 click, where he shares lots of beautiful images taken with his X70.

Of course Kevin needs the selfie screen, actually he even wants a fully articulating one.

Kevin Mullins shared another X70 video here: People Watching at Cheltenham Races 2018 with my Fuji X70

Self Scratched X70

And while Kevin Mullins accidentally damaged his X70, there are people out there, who like the extra vintage look of scratched X70 and intentionally damage their X70, such as FujiGlitch at our forum here.
