BREAKING: Fixed Lens Fujifilm GFX Coming Within March 2025

According to our trusted sources, the fixed lens Fujifilm GFX camera will come within the end of this Japanese fiscal year.

We remind you that the Japanese fiscal year ends on the 31th of March 2025.

It will ship in 2027*
*just kidding, that would be way too fast for Fujifilm standards :D

Fujifilm X-H2S (7.10) vs Sony A6700 Autofocus Video Comparison

Fujifilm has released the new firmware for X-H2S, X-H2 and GFX100II. We have covered it already in earlier articles:

And while they all agree it is workable again, FujiRumors has shared also two videos of Edvard, which show in which areas there are still improvements to be done. Especially his findings about the X-T3 should be taken into consideration by Fujifilm. But I refer you to this article.

Now we have, for the first time, a direct side by side comparison between Fujifilm X-H2S with firmware 7.10 vs the Sony A6700.

It has been made by Sony and Fujifilm shooter photorabz using the Sigma 16mmF1.4 APS-C lens as as well as the Brightin Star 50mm F1.4 (he owns both versions, one of E mount and one for X mount).

He also tested the X-H2S with the Viltrox 75mmF1.2 outside for a shoot (stills and video) in real world conditions, where the autofocus performed much better than with firmware 7.00.

Sony A6700 vs Fujifilm X-H2S head to head:

the results are surprisingly good for Fujifilm. I really loved how the autofocus on the Fuji worked during this comparison. Sony cameras have one of the best autofocus systems out there, but now the Fujifilm is not bad all. This comparison test made me more confident to take the Fujifilm again for professional work.

Take this as one more of the many feedbacks we got in these days.

My position remains the same: it’s true that it is workable again and you can go back to work confidently again with Fujfilm gear, but it is also true that the work is not yet finished and there is room for further improvements, which is why in my previous coverage I highlighted in the headline as well as in the intro the findings that Edvard made, which I think are valuable feedback for Fujifilm.

RUMOR: Fujifilm GFX Fixed Lens Camera “About the Size” of Fujifilm X-Pro3

Today we have a rather important update regarding the fixed lens Fujifilm GFX camera.

Our trusted sources have told us that the fixed lens Fujifilm GFX will be “about the size” of the Fujifilm X-Pro3.

NOTE: our sources said “about” the size, not “exactly” the size. This means there will be a size difference, but it won’t be that big. On the contrary, they will be quite close in size.

Fujifilm Bluetooth Wireless Remote Shutter Release with M5Stack

A couple of weeks ago, in our FR-reader wishlist roundup, FR-reader Keith wished for the following: a wireless remote shutter release for a Fuji GFX100 II, that does not require a transmitter and cable connection, and does not require a phone, like Canon is offering with the Canon BR-E1.

Well, there seems to be a DIY solution for that, as also mentioned by Keith. You’ll have to use the M5Stack M5StickC Plus ESP32-PICO Mini IoT Development Kit.

So, first you have to get the M5Stack, which is available globally at Amazon. There is also a newer version of the M5Stack, which you still don’t find everywhere, but it is listed also at some Amazon branches such as Amazon DE here and Amazon IT here, but you can also get it at shop.m5stack.

In any case, it will work with all of these M5Stack versions.

Once you have the device you load the firmware available at Github here on it. The firmware upload can now also be done via the installer web page here.

Done that, it will work as a bluetooth wireless remote shutter release.

You can see the list of Fujifilm cameras on which it has been tested to work at Github here.

On the project page, there is a section for ‘Installation’ (see here) which has a link to the recommended ‘Easy Web Install’ (see here).

F-Log2 C vs F-Log2 Tested and LUT File for F-LOG2 C Available

Fujifilm just launched the new F-LOG2 C, which gives you wider color gamut over F-Log2.

It has been made available to Fujifilm X-H2, X-H2S and GFX100 II via the latest firmware update.

Below I’ll share a two videos comparing F-Log 2 C with F-Log 2.

First video: we can see that F-Log2 C gives a slightly less saturated look and especially in the orange/red tones are more true to life, which results also in more accurate and pleasing skin tones. He calls F-Log2C a “Gamechanger” in his video headline.

Second video: it’s also testing the new firmware (with Fringer adapter)  in addition to comparing F-Log. In the comments somebody said:

Maan finally the annoying focus pulsing is almost gone… I can’t believe that our cameras were broken for so long!
Thank you for this video!
The skin tones look amazing in FLogC imo.

F-Log2 C looks to be a welcome addition for videographers.

Fujifilm’s Improved Autofocus Tested: “I Fell in Love with the X-H2S again and Will Not Sell it Anymore”

Fujifilm’s Autofocus Firmware

Fujifilm just released the new firmware for the Fujifilm X-H2, X-H2S and GFX100II. You can read all details here (it did bring also completely new features).

So how does it work?

I will share a few videos on FujiRumors.

First impressions: definitely improved. I’d say enough to end months of sh*tstorm, although we know Fujifilm is the most hated brand, so there will always be those, who’ll attack it no matter what.

Also, people who cirtizied Fujifilm (and whose critics I shared on FR), now say it’s way better and one guy even had the X-H2S listed for sale to buy Sony, but now removed his sale offer and will keep the X-H2S as he says he fell in love with the X-H2S again.

Video 1

The video below shot on GFX100II with latest firmware in low light video AF tracking.

The guy walks around in a huge room, turns around, moves freely and the film guy follows him handhelding the GFX100II. Very low light often.

  • the guy filming says: “It’s not missing. It’s literally on you the whole time. It’s dark and it has not missed

My Biggest Worry after the Fujifilm GFX Eterna Announcement

Fujifilm recently announced the development of the Fujifilm GFX Eterna.

And look, I have nothing against it.

On the contrary: I know many filmmakers love the GFX 100 megapixel and I am aware that many others asked for a Fujifilm Cinema camera since a long time. So it’s great that Fujifilm now delivers one.

But…

… at the same time I am also a little bit worried.

You see, Fujifilm does not have the largest R&D in the camera industry.

And as we calculated recently, Fujifilm does release about 4 lenses each year (combining X and GF lenses).

Now, it’s nice to hear Fujifilm saying that they are committed to their new cinema camera line and that they will release more lenses besides the Fujinon GF32-90mmT3.5 for it That’s important to know for people, who will invest in this system.

But this is also where my concern arises: with the current pace constrained by R&D limitations, Fujifilm is producing a maximum of four lenses annually. Now, with the launch of a new cinema camera system that requires a dedicated range of lenses as quickly as possible, the situation becomes even more challenging.

Unless Fujifilm expands its R&D efforts for the digital camera segment, we might see fewer than four lenses per year for the photo-focused X and GFX systems.

And quite honestly, with 4 still lenses a year we are already at a minimum. Getting even less than that would be a bummer for me.

I hope Fujifilm has considered this and won’t simply divert resources from their photo-centric systems to the cinema camera lineup. Instead, they should expand their overall R&D efforts to maintain at least the current pace of producing four photo-centric lenses per year.

I will try to investigate this with my sources and if I have any updates I will let you know here on FujiRumors.

Fujifilm Manager Talks Fujifilm GFX Eterna Cinema Camera and Additional Images

The upcoming Fujifilm GFX ETERNA cinema camera is now at display at the InterBEE 2024.

CineD is on location and had a talk with Fujifilm manager Makoto-san. You can see the video below as well as read the summary:

  • Fujifilm is working since over 2 years on this camera
  • development is not yet finished
  • the target is not only cinema, but in general film (documentaries, etc)
  • sensor and processor are the same of the GFX100 II
  • image quality will be basically the same of GFX100 II, but Fujifilm is making optimizations for filmmaking
  • Fujifilm will add some more features on Fujifilm GFX Eterna over GFX100 II
  • rolling shutter will be basically the same of GFX100 II
  • Fujifilm can’t yet disclose details about internal recording codecs and resolutions
  • internal ND and control dial
  • 12 bit
  • video performance will be basically the same of GFX100 II
  • release in 2025
  • no pricing info yet
  • “if we would develop an X mount version, it would be totally different because the mount is totally different”
  • based in feedback from the market Fujifilm could develop other specific film lenses (also manual focus lenses)

I will also share a few additional images I have received via rumor box (thanks!).

Also TheNewsShooter is on location and he shared his images on X here.
