Notice Regarding Postponement of Release of “Fujinon Lens XF23mmF1.4 R LM WR”

The new Fujinon XF23mm f/1.4 R LM WR is getting delayed from the original planned shipping date of November 30 to February 2022. Also the LH-XF23 II is getting delayed.

The reason is not the too high demand this time (like with the XF33mmF1.4), as the pre-orders are in line with what Fujifilm expected. The reason is the delay in parts procurement. You can read the press release below.

At the moment stores still show November 30 as shipping start, but I guess we will see that change in the next few days.

Fujifilm Gear 2021 In Stock Check (and it Doesn’t Look All That Good)

Fujifilm has definitely not been lazy and has announced tons of gear in 2021.

However, most of it is hard to find.

I was extremely lucky, as I grabbed the last available XF27mmF2.8 R WR at my local store on the first day the lockdown ended and I could finally leave my micro-village and drive to the store in the city nearby. And for the Fujifilm GFX100S I had to wait “only” 5 months.

But how does the situation look like now? Down below the in stock check of all the gear announced in 2021.

GFX100S

Adorama has a few samples in stock. No other store listed below has the GFX100S available. The store Moment expect availability on October 15.

GF80mmF1.7

A limited number of Fuji’s latest speed monster is available at AmazonUS here. The lens is in stock also at Focuscamera. The Fujinon GF80mmF1.7 is expected to be in stock in 2-4 weeks at BHphoto. Adorama just says “coming soon”. Moment expects it for October 21.

GFX50SII

It was originally planed to ship by the end of September, but Fujifilm issued an official delivery delay notice for the GFX50SII with GF35-70 kit, so let’s see how this will change things.

So far all stores expect the body only version as well as the kit version to be available on October 21.

GF35-70mmF4.5-5.6

So far stores expect it to ship on November 30. Only Adorama is slightly more optimistic and gives us November 20 as shipping start.

X-E4

It’s on back-order everywhere. And the situation seems to be rather dramatic, as BHphoto and AmazonUS even stopped accepting pre-orders on it. You can still order it at Adorama.

XF70-300mmF4-5.6

It is back-ordered everywhere. The only time indications we get comes from AmazonUS here, who expects stock around October 20 and Moment here, who is more optimistic and hopes to be able to ship some samples on October 3.

XF27mmF2.8 R WR

This is the one lens every X shooter should own (and I own it), but you can’t buy it at the moment, as it is unavailable everywhere. AmazonUS even gave up and stopped taking pre-orders on it for now.

X-T30II

It is expected to ship on October 21.

XF 33mmF1.4 R LM WR

It was supposed to start shipping on September 29, but pre-orders are very high and forced Fujifilm to issue an official delivery delay notice. Now it is expected to ship on October 21.

XF 23mmF1.4 R LM WR

It is expected to ship on November 30.

XF18mmF1.4 R LM WR

Good News. This one is in stock everywhere!

BHphoto / AmazonUS / Adorama / Focuscamera

Fujinon XF23mmF1.4 R LM WR Pre-Orders Now also at AmazonUS

It took Amazon a while, but the Fujinon XF23mmF1.4 R LM WR is now available for pre-order also at AmazonUS here. Shipping is expected to start on November 30.

If everything goes well (and that’s a big IF), the other lens announced recently, the Fujinon XF33mmF1.4 should start shipping on October 21.

Fujifilm Releases New Firmware Updates for X-T4, X-T3, X-E4, X-Pro3, X-T200 and X-A7

Fujifilm has released a couple of new firmware updates. Down below all details and download links.

In theory this is just a minor bug fix update, but I remember when I was on holiday last year in South Italy and Fujifilm released a new X-T4 firmware with “minor bug fixes”. Intrigued by that, I tested the new firmware during my holiday, and found out that it fixed the exposure stepping in video, which is all, but just a minor bug fix.

→ Do Not Miss -→ Huge Fujifilm X/GFX DealsSave up to $2,000
→ Do Not Miss -→ BHphoto Mega Deal Zone → Includes Huge Deals on Third Party X Lenses

This is why I generally always recommend to update your cameras. Fujifilm can fix a typo in the menu, but also way bigger issues with such “minor bug fixes”.

Also, Fujifilm promised us a major GFX100 firmware update and also a major X-S10 firmware update. Sadly they have not been released today. I hope this does not mean there was some sort of last second delay (wouldn’t be the first time).

In any case, here on FR I’ll let you know as soon as the new firmware for GFX100 and X-S10. So follow us.

With all that said, you can find all details and links for the latest firmware updates down below.

Fujifilm Resumes Shipping of Orders after Cyber Attack

Here are the previous episodes in bullet points:

Today Fujifilm issued a statement, saying that the network is recovering and starting from today, they will resume orders for products and services that were partialyl suspended.

It seems like slowly everything is getting back to normal.

Notice of delay in delivery due to communication failure and resumption of orders

Due to unauthorized access to the server used by Fujifilm, a communication failure occurred in our network, and we are currently in the process of recovery. From June 9th (Wednesday), we will resume orders for products and services (photo prints, etc.) that were partially suspended. In addition, the delivery date may be delayed.

We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

RUMOR UPDATE: Affordable GF Zoom Lens Coming Second Half 2021

This is an important update.

According to our sources, Fujifilm has moved the announcement of the upcoming affordable GF zoom lens from the first half 2021 to the second half 2021. Don’t worry, it won’t be delayed further to 2022. It will 100% arrive within 2021.

I don’t know if this delay is related to the shortage of parts announced by Fujifilm. Anyway, I thought it was worth to keep you up to date with the latest developments.

Anyway, it makes little difference to the substance of that rumor, which is that it will be Fuji’s most affordable G mount lens and come soon.

More details will follow on FujiRumors.

Fujinon GF80mmF1.7 King of All Portrait Lenses (vs GF110mmF2): “Usually Gear Does Not Matter, but in This Case, It Matters”

ZP Productions published his review about the Fujinon GF80mm f/1.7 on his youtube channel. Since he owns the GF110mmF2, he also compares to that lens.

Down below is a summary, but the 12 minutes video linked below is well worth watching.

  • very good lens, but not a perfect lens
  • the GF110mmF2 is more perfect in terms of optical quality, chromatic aberration, sharpness to the corner
  • GF80mmF1.7 is a lot easier to use outdoors than the GF110mm. It’s lighter and shorter
  • the rendering on the GF80mm is smoother than the GF110mm most of the time, because of smoother bokeh balls
  • GF110 is optically more corrected than the GF80mmF1.7. There is a very slight chromatic aberration on the GF80mm (you must zoom in a lot to notice a very slight aberration). It’s not obvious and also not distracting, but when it happens, you can remove it in post
  • GF80mmF1.7 mantains sharpness in the center and also in the corners. However, in the extreme corners it’s still sharp, but not tack sharp like the GF110mmF2
  • sometimes, when you try to focus on something in the very corner of the frame, the lens seems to not always nail the focus and it can result in softer images
  • it’s overall a very sharp lens
  • works great outdoors but also indoors, where the GF110mm might be a bit too long sometimes
  • unique lens that gives you a unique look in your portraits
  • Unique rendering
  • fantastic lens for night photography
  • easier to shoot handheld and get sharp images at slower shutter speeds
  • for night portraiture, available light and led lighting photography, it is definitely easier to sue than the GF110mmF2
  • he enjoys this lens a lot
  • this lens is not too expensive. It’s cheaper than the GF110mm and some equivalent FF lenses
  • it is pre-production sample/firmware, and that bit of chromatic aberration might be fixed with the final firmware. But he repeats it is very minor chromatic aberration, almost non-existant and visible in case only at 200% magnification
  • it is the nicest portrait lens you can get on medium format today

To certain degree, it’s just inevitable to see CA in such super fast lenses. Some show more if it, some less, and from what I could see in the sample in the video, the Fujinon GF80mmF1.7 shows a very reasonable and acceptable amount of CA in some conditions.

Look for example at the just announced Sony FE 35mm f/1.4 GM lens. Right now some people are actually quite impressed by how much chromatic aberration it shows wide open (DPR highlights it as the main flaw of this lens) and they hope that the shipping delay announced for the Sony 35mmF1.4 GM means that Sony is somehow trying to quickly fix it.

In some situation in life you just have to come down, stop down, and all will be good again ;).

Another review has been published by Patrick Tomasso (video below). Here are his thoughts about the Fujinon GF80mmF1.7.

  • if you are a portrait photographer shooting full frame right now and you consider to go medium format, the GF80mmF1.7 is the definition of “bokeh beast lens”
  • every sensor size has its bokeh beast lens, but the GF80mmF1.7 is the king of all of them. Nothing comes close to this lens in terms of DOF, detail, sharpness
  • if you are portrait photographer and try this lens, it will be hard to you go back to anything else
  • the reviewer does not shoot much portraits, but if he did, he’d just drop his full frame gear to get this lens
  • you can back up, get a wider shot, but still separate the subject from the background in a way you can’t with full frame or APS-C
  • he used the lens to shoot landscape and street, and even if you’d usually not use it for that, it’s a lens that changes your entire perception of photography, the way you see and frame things
  • GFX camera + GF80mmF1.7 gives you a look that will set you apart from almost everybody else that’s shooting right now
  • in an oversaturated market, the GFX gear can separate you from the pack
  • usually gear does not matter, but in this case, gear matters
  • it’s difficult to pull off that GFX look with any other combination that’s out there in the camera market
  • for video, as this lens is focus by wire, it is almost impossible to manually focus this lens during video, and AF is not good enough for video use
  • moving forward, medium format might become a system that is just affordable and attainable as full frame
  • everyday people are now starting to get access to medium format
