Fujinon XF16-80mm f/4 Finally in Stock

The Fujinon XF16-80mm f/4 is shipping and in stock at BHphoto here.

Fujifilm Manager Toshihisa Iida said at the recent Fujifilm X Summit, that pre-orders are very high for the Fujinon XF16-80mm f/4 and that the factory is working full power to try to deliver as fast as possible.

On the other hand, the delay might have been also caused by Fujifilm’s need to address some firmware updates first, which now have been released here, and they have sorted out some issues.

If you want to save some bucks on the lens, it’s sold also in combination with the X-T3 at BHphoto, Adorama, AmazonUS and Focuscamera.

The regular bundle price for X-T3 with 16-80 would be of $2,000, but until November 17 you can get it for $1,800.

This Guy left Fujifilm for Sony A7III and then Switched Back to Fujifilm X – Read Why Here

Damiano is an event photographer, who switched from Fujifilm X to Sony A7III. However, after a season with the Sony, he decided to switch back to Fujifilm X-T3 and X-H1.

So why did he switch back?

He discusses his choice in his 21 minutes long Italian video, but you guys are lucky, because Italian is one of the 3 languages I manage better than English, so I make a summary of his video for you down below.

3½ Reasons Why Fujifilm is Waiting so Long to Release the Fujifilm X100V

Fujifilm X100V

When I recently posted the huge Fujifilm camera release timeline, I made one single error, that thankfully you guys corrected in the comments.

I calculated, that the Fujifilm X100 series got a refresh every 2 years, which is absolutely correct. But then, based on that refresh cycle, I said that the X100V should come two years after the X100F (which was announced in January 2017).

But this would mean the Fujifilm X100V should have hit the market in January 2019, which evidently it has not. Our sources say it will come at some point in 2020.

Now, not to justify my error, but, well, I run FujiRumors 365 days a year non stop, and I wrote that particular article in a bar, drinking beer, while waiting for the rain to stop and finally go out shooting again with my X-E3, as you can see here. Well, at this point I’ll just say is that it rained a lot that day ;)

I apologize if I confused you guys, so I felt I need to address this in a dedicated article.

But also, this is a good opportunity to quickly discuss, why Fujifilm is waiting so long, to finally give us a successor to the Fujifilm X100F.

Down below 3½ reasons for that:

Fujifilm X-T2 Firmware 4.00 Download File Leaked at Fujifilm Cina – Full List of Features but DO NOT DOWNLOAD

Fujifilm X-T2 Firmware 4.00

As you know, Fujifilm said they will release a firmware update for the Fujifilm X-T2, GFX, X-Pro2 and X-H1 in May.

Now Fujifilm China has made the firmware file ver. 4.00 available for download here.

We DO NOT RECOMMEND to upgrade your X-T2 until it is available at Fujifilm’s global site here, which currently still shows firmware ver. 3.00.

It looks like somebody at Fujifilm China has pushed the “publish” button too early.

Do NOT upgrade because:

  • Fujifilm could find a last second bug before the official release, and hence fix the bug before the official launch
  • If you download and install the Chinese X-T2 ver. 4.00 now, and if Fujifilm really finds a last second bug and delays firmware 4.00, once the official ver. 4.00 will be out, your camera could have problems to upgrade to the “official” ver. 4.00, since there could be a conflict and your X-T2 will say that firmware 4.00 is already installed.
  • Wait… please wait… it can’t be long anymore… must be a matter of a few days

I do share the information here on FujiRumors about the Chinese firmware leak, because it includes the full list of features the X-T2 will get with firmware ver. 4.00.

And Now Profoto Denies Plans for A1 for Fujifilm

You might remember, how back in September 2017, Profoto USA said here, that they are going to release the Fujifilm version of their A1 studio light.

A few months later, in November, Profoto announced that pre-orders and sales for the Profoto A1 are very strong, hence the Canon/Nikon version will be delayed… and as a consequence also any other version, which should have followed after CaNikon.

But here comes the bad news.

FR-reader gkutar (check out his instagram here) had a talk with Profoto, and he asked when we will finally get the Fujifilm version.

The answer was the one you can see in the screenshots below.

BREAKING: Fujifilm X-H1 Shorter Black Out Than X-T2. Kaizen Update Possible for X-T2 & Co?

Fujifilm X-H1 EVF

A trusted source just made us a slightly delayed but highly appreciated X-mas present.

Ready? Then enjoy this one :)

In continous shooting, the EVF black out time on the upcoming Fujifilm X-H1 will be shorter than on the X-T2.

Excited? Then make sure to join our Fujifilm X-H facebook group

… where its almost 4,000 members already opened the new year champagne bottles after this rumor :)

Some Data

Currently on the X-T2, at 5 frames per second, the black out time is 65% without grip and 57% with vertical booster grip.

Fujifilm might have suceeded in reducing the “image creation – black out (57%)” part even further, hence reducing black out.

Another topic is the electronic shutter, which currently on the X-T2 does not give you live view, but just previews of the images you just took. The issue in shooting CH is rolling shutter.

I will investigate this further, but it seems our sources are refering to the black out when using mechanical shutter. Hence no rolling shutter problem. But I will update you guys as soon as possible.

Stacked Sensor?

To my information, “No“, the Fujifilm X-H1 won’t have a stacked CMOS sensor like the Sony A9, but the same 24MP X-TransIII sensor of the Fujifilm X-T2 & Co. Hence, you won’t lose any dynamic range, which is a drawback of stacked sensors.

Kaizen Update Possible?

The Fujifilm X-H1 will not only have the same sensor, but also the same X processor Pro of the Fujifilm X-T2 & Co.

And I know what you think… and I’m with you guys! I really would like the improved black out time also for X-T2, X-Pro2, X-T20 and X-E3 via Kaizen Firmware update… as well as the new Eterna film simulation.

Sharing the same sensor/processor of X-T2, these Kaizen updates should be possible.

We are Going to Have Fun!

There will be more rumors, so stay tuned on FujiRumors via Facebook, RSS-feed, and Twitter and allow push notification by clicking on the bell on the bottom right of your browser.

We are going to have fun :)
