Fujifilm 2017 Rewinded

2017 was another exciting Fuji X year, and in order to cover it properly, I have shared almost 1,000 blog posts.

A lot of things happened, and maybe some of you might have missed something. So I have checked back all articles and selected some highlights for you. No FujiRumors rumors are included in this list.

It was not easy to pick out a few highlights… but below you can find the list month by month. Let us know what you consider the highlight of 2017.

But before we start, 2 honorable mentions:

2017 was the year of Fuji X and GFX smart adapters launched or announced this year by Techart Canon EF-GFX, Steelsring Canon EF-Fuji X, Canon EF-GFX, Nikon F-GFX, Nikon F-Fuji X. Fringer Contax 645-GFX, Canon EF-Fuji X and Kipon Canon EF-GFX, Contax 645-GFX).

2017 was the year of massive flash support for Fujifilm. Most major players have added support or announced support.

And thanks to all FR-reader, who helped me to spot all these news. Your help means everything to me.

JANUARY

FUJIFILM GFX, X100F, X-T20, XF50 and GF lens Announcements: The Fuji year 2017 started strong with the announcement of the graphite Fujifilm X-Pro2, X-T2 and XF23mmF2. A few days later, Fujifilm launched the Fujifilm GFX 50S with 3 lenses (63, 32-64, 120) as well as the X-T20, X100F and XF50mmF2. We covered everything in this live blogging. Especially the X100F sold much better than expected. Fujifilm UK said the X100F sold far more than X100/S/T.

PHASE ONE Vs. GFX 50S: Phase One made a bit of hope for Fujifilm GFX 50S support, when a manager saidFujifilm GFX support? We have not yet decided. It depends on the GFX market impact”. However, so far there are not many reasons to be optimistic. In fact I just had a chat with a Phase One manager, who told me that the official line is that competing medium format cameras won’t be supported.

IRIDIENT: After a long wait, finally also Windows user could enjoy Iridient for their X-Trans demosaicing. Iridient developer Brian launched Iridient X-Transformer 1.0 Beta 1 for Windows.

FEBRUARY

SUPER LENS POLL: I asked you which lenses you’d like to see from Fujifilm, and you responded greatly, with almost 1,000 comments and lens suggestions! I tell you, it was a super-hard and long work to sum them all up into 30 lenses. And once again, your answer was overwhelming, with 11,000 votes in less than 48 hours. NEW X MOUNT ROADMAP: Fujifilm updated its lens roadmap, finally including lenses that here on FujiRumors since years. Report here.

Fujifilm Teases X-H1 and Grows Strong: A Fujifilm manager announced a more “video capable camera” (which turns out to be the X-H1) and also says that Fujifilm has almost 20% mirrorless market share. The whole story here.

Fujinon MK Cine Lenses: Fujifilm Launches the “MK lens” for Sony E-mount, but X-mount will follow in 2018. Read the announcement here.

X-TRANS FUTURE: A Fujifilm Managers confirms that the next generation of APS-C cameras will still be X-Trans. And he also says that the next generation sensor/processor in mirrorless cameras will allow mirrorless to beat DSLR’s in every aspect. Read the story here.

Fujifilm X-Acquire: Fujifilm announced their free tethering software X-Acquire. A great workaround for photographers, especially for those using Capture One. It was made available for download on February 28 here.

“RAW Power” App: A new and welcome addition to the X-Trans RAW processing software options. But keep in mind it uses Apples engine, so no compressed RAF support.

NISSIN: Nissin Announced the Air 10s advanced wireless TTL strobe commander also for Fujifilm. Check it out here. A few months later, in May, the Nissin i60 and Nissin i40 got high speed ​​sync firmware update for Fujifilm cameras, as reported here.

ORGANIC SENSOR DEVELOPMENT: Fujifilm announced the development of world’s fastest organic CMOS circuit For multi-bit flexible temperature sensor. Read more here.

Fujifilm Professional Service: Fujifilm Professional GFX Service launched in USA. It is also available in EU.

KIPON GFX ADAPTER: Kipon officially launches many Fujifilm GFX adapters. Read more here.

CACTUS CROSS BRAND TTL: Cactus announces cross-brand wireless TTL support for Fujifilm via free firmware update. Read here. The final firmware has been made available in June here.

INSTAX MINI 9: Instax keeps up selling like hot cakes. So new models keep up coming. In March, Fujifilm launched the Fujifilm INSTAX MINI 9.

APRIL

FUJIRUMORS CHARITY AUCTION: Thanks to your support, the FujiRumors chartiy auction was a big success. In total, FR has raised $5,000 for free education in Cambodia. Thank you so much.

Fujifilm GFX 50s Gold Award: DPReview gives the Gold Award to the Fujifilm GFX 50s because it has “The best image quality we’ve seen to date”. Full review here.

GODOX STARTS FUJIFILM SUPPORT: The Godox TT350 for fujifilm is finally available for pre-order. In the following months, Godox will strengthen his Fujifilm support and become one of the best flash options for the Fujifilm system.

MAY

ACCOUNTING IRREGULARITIES: Fujifilm delays earnings release due to accounting irregularities. More here. The final report has been shared here. In short: no big deal. Fujifilm is healthy and strong.

NEW FIRMWARE: FUJIFILM releases firmware updates for X-T2, X-Pro2, GFX 50S, X-T20, X100F and X-T1 + Fuji Software Updates. Full report here.

JUNE

Fujifilm helps Nikon: No secret, Nikon is struggling. And the Japanese magazine Sentaku reports that the Japanese government is trying to convince Fujifilm to invest into Nikon in order to help them. The story has been broken by the Japanese magazine Sentaku, which is on the market since 42 years and targets high-level readers (business men, politicians etc). JULY

LUMINAR for WINDOWS: Skylum (former “MacPhun”) launches the first windows beta version of their software. Report here.

AUGUST

GLOBAL SHUTTER / ORGANIC SENSOR: Panasonic announces the development of wide dynamic range and global shutter technology for organic photoconductive film Image. The whole recap about the eternal organic sensor drama here in this article.

ROBOSHOOT STOPS PRODUCTION: Serene Automation announced the “temporary suspension” fo their roboshoot triggers. All details here.

BOLD STATEMENTS: Fujifilm declares in their “Vision 2019” plan, that they want to become Nr.1 premium mirrorless camera manufacturer within March 2010. Read it here.

Fujifilm X-E3 Annouced: It finally happened, Fujifilm just announced the Fujifilm X-E3. See here.
