Fujinon XF 35mmF2 vs XC 35mmF2 Size and Specs Comparison – Same Same, But Different

Fujifilm 35mm Battle

Which was the best selling gear among the FujiRumors community in the entire year 2019?

Give it a look… you might find some surpises.

When it comes to best selling overall in 2019, the throne went to the much loved Fujinon XF 35mm f/2.

Well, in just a few hours a new 35 prime will join the Fujinon lineup, the Fujinon XC 35mm f/2.

I decided to take my time during this long sleepless night (don’t ask me in which conditions I’ll go teaching tomorrow :D ), to compare the specs and size.

As you can see below, the optical formula seems to be the same, so I guess we can expect great result also from the Fujinon XC 35mm f/2.

However, the Fujifilm XC 35mm f/2 lacks of the much loved aperture ring.

Also, the Fujinon XC 35mm f/2 is lighter, since it’s made mostly out of plastic (even the lens mount). But that’s the case also in other Fujinon XC lenses.

So same same, but definitely different.

And I have the feeling, that the Fujinon XF35mmf/2 will reign undisturbed also in 2020 among your favorite lenses.

Don’t forget to:

Fujifilm X-T3 vs Sony A6600, Low Light X-T3 vs A7III Wedding Photography, X-T3 Water Resistance and More – X-T3 Roundup

The inevitable will happen: the Fujifilm X-T4 will ship within March, and this means that the time of dedicated Fujifilm X-T3 roundups will soon be over, and the X-T3 content will be moved to the general camera roundups.

But we are not yet there.

The Fujifilm X-T3 is still today the DPReview most recommended camera below $1,500 and at the same time the DPR camera popularity winner.

So, it’s still a beast of a camera, that will soon get even better, thanks to this firmware update.

Hence, here we have one more glorious Fujifilm X-T3 roundup for you.

The Fujifilm X-T4 will have a serious challenge: improve what is already very, very good. Let’s see if it will stand up to this task.

Don’t forget also…

The Era of Fujifilm X100V is Coming and the Fujifilm X100F Gets its Last Glorious Roundup!

Match Technical EP-2F Thumbs Up Grip for Fujifilm X100F

Here on FujiRumors we have always reserved a special place to what you guys voted the by far most sexy camera in the entire Fujifilm world, the Fujifilm X100 line.

In fact, the Fujifilm X100 lives in a world of its own… a world where specs do not really seem to mean a lot.

Just see our massive Fujifilm X100 group, which, among all our Fujifilm X/GFX groups, is the one with less gear talk of all.

This is a natural consequence of the philosophy behind this camera: keep it simple, focus on creating images.

One camera, one lens. Now go out and shoot.

And yet…

there is a rare time, when even X100 shooters focus a tiny bit more on gear. And that’s when a successor is about to come out. And that’s fully understandable.

FujiRumors already shared a couple of X100V rumors, but that’s not what we talk about today.

Today, just before the X100V hits the market, we dedicated an own article to the beautiful Fujifilm X100F, an extremely successful camera that sold far more than X100/S/T.

X100F (save $200): BHphoto, Adorama, AmazonUS, Focuscamera

FujiRumors Turns 8 Years Old Today: 6,000+ Articles of Pure Fujifilm Passion!

Today FujiRumors turns 8 years old.

Some things have not changed in these years:

But some things changed:

  • I married
  • I definitely own more Fujifilm gear ;)
  • some gray hair started to appear

I’ve checked the system, and it tells me that I wrote 6,143 articles in 8 years.

Initially I wrote about 200 articles a year, but as the Fuji fellowship grew, I felt I need to honor your participation, and now publish about 1,000 articles a year.

Sounds a lot?

Well it is, but…

… but writing articles is probably just 30% of my work, as even more time require emails, comments, facebook group moderation, technical work for the site and more.

I might be wrong, but from the encouraging emails I get, I believe many of you appreciated this effort :).

In fact, some readers even asked me how they can support my work, now that the PayPal donation link on FujiRumors is no longer linked to FR, but KNGO, and NGO that gives access to free education for poor Cambodian kids.

Well, Paypal will remain linked to KNGO, but if you like what I am doing, and would like to support my work here on FR, then now you can do it via my new Patreon page here.

I don’t know, I hope that maybe I could reach the goal to be able to cover the monthly costs of this site via Patreon, which would be already fantastic. Let’s see.

So guys, it’s 11 PM here now.

I will bring out my dog, and then go sleeping.

Because tomorrow, after my breakfast, after my planing for the school, after a short walk around the lake with dog in the fresh winter sun, I will be back on the computer, and I will be working on rumors that have to be shared ;).

Have a fantastic weekend,
Patrick

Opticallimits Viltrox 85mm f/1.8 Review: “A Surprisingly Mature Product”

Viltrox 85mm f/1.8

The Viltrox 85mm f/1.8 was the best selling third party lens of 2019 here on FujiRumors, and that it was a good choice.

The cusotmer reviews are mostly very positive:

Now also renowned review sites, such as opticallimits (former photozone), have declared it a great alternative to the Fujinon optics, which remain superior in terms of IQ and AF speed, but you also pay them significantly more.

The Viltrox PFU RBMH 85mm f/1.8 STM is an attractive medium tele lens for Fujifilm cameras. It is sharp across the image field – especially at medium aperture settings – and it doesn’t show any substantial weakness across the other characteristics either. Lateral CAs are low as are image distortions. There is a bit of vignetting at f/1.8 but it’s nothing out of the ordinary (on an APS-C sensor at least). A very positive aspect is the quality of the bokeh. Image highlights are nicely rendered at f/1.8 and the blur in the focus transition zones is very creamy. Bokeh fringing (LoCA) is present at large-aperture settings but that’s hardly surprising.

The build quality feels very “tanky” due to the all-metal design. Pro photographers may miss weather-sealing but that’s a different market segment anyway. Unlike other small manufacturers, Viltrox managed to implement an autofocus motor (STM = stepping motor). The speed is decent but action photography is a bit out of scope. However, such a lens is more aligned to portrait or street photography anyway.

It is quite surprising than Viltrox was capable of designing and manufacturing such a mature product as their first shot into the market. Other newcomers struggled much more during their first years (and some still do). Of course, designing a 85mm f/1.8 isn’t science fiction but getting all the required acts together at a very attractive price point is an achievement. Thus if you can’t or don’t want to pay the premium price for a Fujifilm XF 90mm f/2 LM R WR, the Viltrox lens is a worthy candidate for your shopping list.

Now I can’t wait how the next Viltrox Fujifilm X autofocus lenses will perform, the Viltrox 23mm f/1.4, 33mm f/1.4 and 56mm f/1.4.

You can read the full review at opticallimits.

Let’s Enjoy the Mirrorless Price War – Last Day (Maybe) to Save $1,000 on Fujifilm X/GFX Gear

eXtended X/GFX Deals

In theory, this is the last day of Fujifilm X and GFX deals. I say in theory, as lately Fujifilm (and all other manufacturers), just keep up chronically discounting all their gear. See for example:

The drastically shrinking camera market triggered a battle for survivor, which is surely stressful for companies, but it’s mostly good for us customers, as this competition gives us innovation and the latest and greatest at a cheaper price than ever.

There is a downside, though, also for customers, as this inevitably means that our lovely gear loses value faster.

But if you were looking at your gear as an “investment“, then here is a tip: electronic goods are never good for that. You don’t even have time to unbox your brand new gear at home, that it already lost value.

Is there a thing in life that has only Pros? Well, let me know if there is, because I still haven’t found it. And so it is in the case of the deals. We can decide to be annoyed by the Cons, or just try to enjoy the Pros of it.

With that said, down below is the full list of deals, that will end on January 5th, but in some shape or form will come back surely later this year.
