FUJIFILM sets New Price on Fujifilm X-H1, X-E3, X-T20, X-T100, X-A5 and Fujifilm Savings Continue

Fujifilm Deals and New MSRP

It looks like Fujifilm set a new MSRP for he Fujifilm X-H1, Fujifilm X-Pro2, Fujifilm X-E3, Fujifilm X-T20, Fujifilm X-T100 and Fujifilm X-A5. The price is lower than in 2018, and stores do not mark it as a deal.

Hence, the Fujifilm X-H1 with grip is still $900 cheaper than just a few days ago, but given the brand new retail price of the X-H1, the savings add up to $467.

Strangly the official retail price of the Fujifilm X-T2 is still $1,599, but you can buy it for $1,099 with a $500 price drop.

Fujifilm 2019 Predictions

It’s time for gear predictions!

Techradar started here, by predicting the Fujifilm X-Pro3 and maybe also the Fujifilm X100F successor in 2019.

Now it’s time for Tony and Chelsea Northrup to predict new gear.

Tony says he noticed a trend at Fujifilm, which is making full frame equivalent fast lenses (XF200mmF2, XF8-16mmF2.8, XF33mmF1.0). Hence, according to his predictions, Fujifilm will launch:

Over a year ago, I told you that Fujifilm will NOT launch more than 2/3 X and 2/3 GF lenses a year (at least not until they finish to expand their lens factories).

And since Fujifilm already has 2 lenses scheduled for this year (the XF16mmF2.8 and XF16-80mmF4), I’d not expect more than 1 “surprise” lens to come (if any).

You can see Tony’s full video at the top of this post or on their youtube channel here, and follow FujiRumors at Facebook, RSS-feed, Twitter and Instagram

INSANE: Save $900 on Fujifilm X-H1 and Fujifilm X-T3 is $100 off

Fujifilm Deal

The widely aknowledge best camera of the 2018, the Fujifilm X-T3 body only, is now $100 off at BHphoto, AmazonUS, Adorama, Focuscamera.

This is the first time we have a deal on the body only X-T3, whereas you still can find $130 rebate if you purchase it with vertical grip at Adorama.

What’s really insane is the gigantic price drop on the Fujifilm X-H1. BHphoto, Adorama, AmazonUS and Focuscamera sell it with battery grip for $1,299 only (reg. $2,199)! The body only costs also $1,299, so grab it with grip (and 2 additional batteries) for the same price.

This Guy Mounted the Fujinon XF 56mmF1.2 on Sony A7R and Shows it Covers Entire Full Frame Sensor Area

Fujinon Lenses on Full Frame Sensor

Back in 2015, John investigated the question if Fujinon X glass can cover larger sensors areas than APS-C, by projected the light passing through Fujinon lenses on a piece of paper (full report here). His conclusion:

I could be wrong in my assumptions, […] but this difference between the Samyang and Fujinon lenses is proof enough for me that the X-mount can handle a larger sensor.

But John’s test was only theoretical.

What happens if you really mount a Fujinon lens on a full frame camera? Will there be heavy vignetting or not?

Albert tried to answer this questions by modifying the mount of his Fujinon XF 56mm F1.2, and basically making a Sony E-mount lens out of it.

And it did work out very well. Albert writes:

Lucky for me, it turns out to work pretty well, the XF56mm F1.2 covered the full frame sensor nicely, and the performance is on par with the popular classic lens, such as Canon FD 58mm f1.2 and Nikkor 50mm f1.2

I wonder, which other Fujinon lenses would cover full frame, too.

I guess red badged lenses such as the XF16-55, XF50-140, XF200mmF2 and XF8-16 as well as fast primes like the Fujinon XF35mmF1.4 and XF23mmF1.4.

You can read the whole article all and see the pictures at foodgrapher here. The article is dated October 2018 but passed unnoticed to all, until a FR-reader (thanks) send me the link via anonymous rumor box and I can now share it on FR. Thanks for your support also in 2019 :).

Fujifilm will Never go Full Frame

And before you start suggesting Fujifilm should put a full frame sensor into the existing X mount…

In no way I want to suggest that Fujifilm will go full frame. I share this test only to show how big the circle of projection of certain Fujinon lenses is, and Fuji’s APS-C camera use only the central (and best) part of the light circle.

And don’t forget: Fujifilm boss (and FujiRumors “lover”) Toshihisa Iida said loud and clear: “Fujifilm will NEVER go Full Frame“. Hence, I can’t see Fujifilm going full frame in any form or shape.

? Top Blogger Moment 2018 ?

The moment I realized, that the new XF lens roadmap disclosed by Fujifilm Japan featured exactly the top prime and top zoom lens we wanted back in February 2017. We explained how we influenced Fujifilm Japan in this article.

Now, I keep my feet well set on the ground, and I know we can’t always influence Fujifilm’s decisions. But the fact that in this case Fujifilm “copied” our Fujinon XF lens wish list and made it become reality, filled my heart with joy.

It’s a recognition that Fujifilm listens closely to what the lively FujiRumors community says and wants. So, dear readers, thanks for your immense participation, it means everything to me, and it makes everything possible :).

Runner Up: My photokina 2018 visit. It was once again super busy, but fantastic.

? Flop Blogger Moment 2018 ?

The moment I realized that Fujifilm would have made several announcements during my European road trip with my grilfriend in July (some images on my Instagram).

So it happens that I was on the road through France and Italy, trying to figure out the exact announcement dates, changing my travel schedule and hostel bookings, cancelling some day trips and so forth.

But that’s how it is. FujiRumors is a one man show. If I don’t write on it, nothing happens here.

At least the July announcements were hot! A new lens roadmap, new lenses, new cameras. So the blogging itself was exciting for me.

And regarding my girlfriend, well, a few romantic dinners later on fixed everything ;).

? Most Used Gear ?

Most used camera:

It’s game over for my lovely Fujifilm X-T1. I have maybe used it for 5% of my images since I own the Fujifilm X-E3.

I got an offer from a friend to buy my X-T1, but I am still hesitant to sell it.

My X-T1 followed me on my travels, snapped my all time favorite image, climbed the highest peaks and so much more, that I just still love it, and it’s hard for me to get rid of it.

Rationally speaking I should sell, emotionally I still can’t.

Most used zoom lens:

The Fujinon XF18-135. My copy is astonshing good. It’s the swiss army knife in my line-up. And the excellent OIS helps for low light handheld shots.

I rarely travel without my XF18-135. For example, this is one of my favorite images of 2018, and it’s taken with the XF18-135 during my road trip in France.

And since I own it, I basically never used my XF55-200 and rarely used my XF18-55, and at some point in 2019 I might sell them. The only zoom lens that I still use fairly enough to justify to keep it, is my Fujinon XF10-24.

Most used prime lens:

In late 2017, I bought the Fujinon XF27mmF2.8, probably the most underrated lens in Fuji’s line-up. At the beginning I used it all the time.

But at some point during 2018, my good old Fujinon XF 35mmF1.4 pretended its attentions, and ended up to be still my most used prime lens. That lens has some magic, I can’t explain. And that’s why it’s still my most use lens.

But I still use and love the XF27mmF2.8 quite a lot, and it’s in fact my Nr.2 prime, well ahead of my Nr.3 lens, the Fujinon XF23mm F1.4.

 ? Happy New Year 2019 ?

2019 is here…

Now you guys promise me to keep up having fun with your photography, and I promise you to put my best into FR also in 2019.

A wonderful, healthy and fun 2019 to everybody out there reading these lines.

Fujinon XF200mmF2 Review by Kai Wong: “Fujifilm’s Full Frame Temptation? They are Killing it with APS-C”

Fujinon XF200mmF2

Kai Wong (video above) tested the Fujinon XF200mmF2, and he is impressed with it. He says:

  • no drop-in filters
  • smaller than equivalent FF lenses
  • with 1.4x teleconverter you get still very usuable images
  • crispy details
  • OIS works incredibly smooth, and combined with IBIS of X-H1 works very well
  • Focus is so so quick when used on Fujifilm X-H1
  • continous AF for stills and video is freaky reliable
  • Kai is sure there is a temptation for Fujifilm to go full frame, he’s sure they can. But with APS-C they are properly killing it
  • Bokeh: tree branches look a bit distracting
  • aimed for Pros and enthusiasts. Competing with Sony & Co in a smaller package
