Firmware Updates for Fujifilm X-T4, X-T3, X-T2, X-T1, X-H1, X-Pro3, X-Pro2, X-Pro1, X-E3, X-T20 and X-T30 Released

Fujifilm has released several firmware updates.

Down below you’ll find all the details officially shared by Fujifilm.

The main course of the meal is improved support for the Fujinon XF50mmF1.0 R WR. for “enhanced AF speed and enabling Color Shading Correction to mitigate subtle color casts when images are made at the lens’ maximum F1.0 aperture“.

I wish Fujifilm would specify, which bugs are fixed. For example, as FujiRumors found out for first, the recent X-T4 “minor bug fix” was actually a major one, as it fixed the exposure stepping issue.

Anyway, down below all the details.

Barack Obama’s White House Photographer Pete Souza Shares the Gear he Uses, his Top 5 Lenses and Talks also Fujifilm X-Pro2

We already know that Pete Souza, Obama’s White House photographer, also uses a Fujifilm X-Pro2. We reported about it here.

Now Pete shared a video about the gear he uses on his instagram (video below), and at the end he also talks briefly about the Fujifilm X-Pro2.

  • cameras are just tools. They all work well. You just have to make a decision yourself on what kind of gear you want use
  • in the White House, he worked with the Canon 5D series
  • his lens trinity: 35mm,50mm and 135mm [in the Fuji world it would be the XF23mm, XF35mm and XF90mm]. Occasionally he uses also an 85mm [the XF56mm in the Fuji world]
  • he also has a flash for posed backlit portraits photos
  • in the white house, he used Canon, he felt was the quietest. Nikon was as good if not better, but Canon was more silent in quiet mode than Nikon, that’s why he got the Canon
  • in 2012/2013 Canon released the second version of the 24-70mm, which was so good and much sharper than the first version, that he started to use it more. This was his primary lens when he photographed outside. He also used the 70-200mm when he was outdoor.
  • now he still uses basically the same gear
  • he purchased the Fujifilm X-Pro2 with XF 23mm f/1.4 lens
  • the X-Pro2 is a great camera to use for example in very silent situations. The camera has no mirror, so it can shoot completely quiet. He was able to shoot in studio while artists were singing, because it is totally silent

Not only Fujifilm, but of course every mirrorless camera is just ideal for silent shooting.

Fujifilm X-H1 Mega Deal with €500 Savings, X-Pro2, X-E3 and More Black Friday Deals

Fujiflm Black Friday Deals

As we already rumored here, Fujifilm decided to top their current Fujifilm X deals for black friday.

Now we have received the full list of deals (thanks to the source :) ).

In some EU countries (I don’t know which ones exactly) you will get up to double cashback on selected Fujifilm gear.

From November 23 to November 27, you save:

Fujifilm X-H1 body or with vertical grip: save €500 (instead of €250)
Fujifilm X-Pro2 body or graphite with 23/2: save €400 (instead of €200)
Fujifilm X-T20 body or kit lens options: save €200 (instead of €100)
Fujifilm X-E3 body or with XC15-45: save €200 (instead of €100)
Fujifilm X-T100 body or kit lens options: save €150 (instead of €100)
Fujifilm X-A5 body or with vertical grip: save €100 (instead of €50)

Fujinon lenses are already discounted, but won’t get any additional savings for black friday.

The Fujifilm X-H1 evidently didn’t sell as well as Fujifilm was hoping, given the massive discount it gets only 9 months after its launch.

Amazon, Yes or No?

I have checked Fujifilm Germany, Fujifilm UK and Fujifilm France, and they all have their local Amazon (AmazonUKAmazonIT, AmazonFR) listed as “Qualifying Retailer” (see screenshots below).

However, you will get the cashback only, if you purchase directly from Amazon, and NOT from their marketplace, unless the marketplace reseller is also included in the qualified dealers list.

To see the full list of qualified retailers in your country, you can visit Fujifilm’s new EU Promo page, fujifilm-connect.com/promotions (the old one is no longer updated), click on your country, then on “more info” and finally on “Qualifying Retailers“.

The new EU Promo page will also show you, if the double cashback deal runs also in your country.

Speaking of deals, don’t forget to check out the early black friday pages at BHphoto, Adorama, AmazonUS, AmazonCA, AmazonDE, AmazonUKAmazonIT, AmazonFR.

Early Black Friday Deals

There are already early black Friday deals available. For example:

  • Amazon Spain: Fujinon XF23mmF2 – save €130

Tethered Shooting for Fujifilm X-T2 and X-Pro2 on Linux – UPDATE: now also Fujifilm X-T3 supported

Tethered Shooting for X-T2 and X-Pro2 on Linux

NOTE TO READERS: Due to new EU regulation, we were forced to currently disable the guest post plug-in. But if you want to be featured on FujiRumors, you can still reach out to me and send me your articles via fujirumor@gmail.com.

UPDATE: Now also works with Fujifilm X-T3

Guest Post by Stefan Weiberg – www.hibiki.eu / @stefan_weiberg

During this years SUSE Hackweek Marcus Meissner, the maintainer of libgphoto2, worked on tethered shooting support for Fujifilm cameras on Linux.

The community provided him with a X-E2, X-T2 and X-Pro2. On top of that the developers of Timelapse+ (www.timelapseplus.com), which internally uses libgphoto2 to communicate with the camera, provided code for adding basic support.

As the X-E2 doesn’t support the necessary protocol for tethered shooting Marcus couldn’t add it for this camera. But for the X-T2 and X-Pro2 a lot of stuff now works:

  • white balance mode
  • image format (quality and size)
  • exposure metering mode
  • exposure program
  • focus metering mode
  • capture delay (self-timer)
  • focus mode
  • shutter release

Here you can see Entangle, a graphical frontend for libgphoto2, together with a X-Pro2 in action:

Live view support doesn’t seem to work as of now and many other features that the Fujifilm protocol might support as well. A tremendous help for further development would be an open specification for the connection protocol by Fujifilm. As we know Fujifilm follows Fujirumors. The addition of some of the highest voted lenses of the Fujirumor survey in the new Fuji lens roadmap is prove of that. Maybe this will get their attention and get them into contact with the developer.

To test this on your own machine you have to use a master branch build of libgphoto2 or if you use openSUSE Leap 15/Tumbleweed use the graphics repository to receive a newer build:

https://software.opensuse.org//download.html?project=graphics&package=libgphoto2

If you want to help Marcus Meissner to further improve libgphoto2 head to the pixls.us forum and join the discussion.

UPDATE: The official release 2.5.19 is now tagged and can therefore be build by other distributions – check out discuss.pixls.us
