Fujinon Roadmap Lenses

For the second time today (first time here), I had to find a way through the security check and get into the Photokina halls. Stealthy like a ninja, I made it again.

This time I was armed with my wonderful Fujifilm X-E3 and I snapped some pictures of the upcoming Fujinon lenses.

I apologize for the quality, since I tried to make my way through a couple of Fujifilm managers and an angry lady, who told me “can I help you” in a tone that clearly ment “p*** off from here“.

So time was limited, the conditions difficult, I could not touch the lenses, but I made it… somehow.

And when nobody was watching, I quickly grabbed a Fujifilm GFX 50R and made a super quick hands on video.

Back to the lenses:

  • XF33mmF1.0: Yes, it’s rather big, especially compared to the Mitakon 35mm F0.95 (manual focus only). I guess Fujifilm wants to make this the ultimate lens in terms of image quality, and still offer a fast AF motor. Filter size 77
  • XF16mmF2.8: Very small. Fits perfect in the Fujicron lineup with the XF23mmF2, XF35mmF2 and XF50mmF2. Filter size 49
  • XF16-80mmF4: This lens, my friends, will fall into the hands of many fellow X-shooters for travels. Filter size 72

This morning started just as usual.

I woke up at 5:30 AM to prepare my coffee in the fantastic Bialetti Brikka Moka recommended to me by a FR-reader (thanks a ton, a game changer :) ).

Usually I get about 10 emails over night, and I try to reply to all of them as quickly as possible within 6:30 AM, but this morning an email of a source made me almost spill my precious coffee.

I received the information about an internal Fujifilm document that predicts the following scenario:

Behind the X Gear: Meet Markus Klinko, the Fujifilm Photographer who Photographed David Bowie, Beyoncé, Will Smith & More

Many Fujifilm X and GFX shooters earn their bread and butter with Fujifilm cameras, and many of those are also extremely successful in their specific genre.

For example, there are Fujifilm shooters, who won prestigeous awards, such as…

  • some won the world wildlife photography award (story here)
  • some made the cover of the TIME magazine (story here)
  • some won the World Photography Arts&Culture Award 2015 (story here)
  • some won the First Prize of the World Press Photo Category “Stories (stroy here)

You also probably know Kevin Mullins, one of the top wedding photographers globally speaking, who shoots exclusively with Fujifilm X series camera.

The list could go on and on (and I apologize for all those I didn’t mention here), but today it’s about Markus Klinko, a photographer, who saw his work displayed at Times Square in New York, who photographed top celebrities like Beyoncé (btw, Beyoncé shoots Fujifilm X100s, as you can see her here) and David Bowie.

Markus is also a good friend of FujiRumors, and he has also contributed with several articles on Fujirumors.com.

Stolen Gear: Help to Find Back Fujifilm’s X Photographer Bert Stephani Gear

Bert Stephani is a well known Fujifilm X photographer, that over all these years has delighted the Fuji Lovers community with great images and has been a valuable member by sharing his Fujifilm X and GFX gear reviews, his Fujifilm camera settings, giving tips for street photography and more.

Sadly, thieves broke into his house and stole his gear, and on facebook here he asked for help to find it back.

So I ask the FujiRumors community to watch out for suspect sales online. Let’s try to help a fellow X-shooter to find back his gear.

Pete Souza, Obama’s White House Photographer, Uses Fujifilm X-Pro2 and XF23mmF1.4… and also Carlos Saura Shoots Fujifilm! – UPDATE

Pete Souza, one of the most famous and talented photographers of our times, not least because for 8 years he was the official White House photographer of former president Obama, has now been spotted with a Fujifilm X-Pro2 and XF23mmF1.4 at camerabits Instagram page.

“The Camera Bits Team had a lovely time today talking workflow with the talented photojournalist @petesouza! Here you can see Camera Bits founder and President Dennis Walker with Pete going through his Photo Mechanic workflow.”

For long term FujiRumors readers, this won’t really come surprising, as we already reported in this 2016 roundup about what’s inside Pete’s bag, and at that time he was carrying around a lovely Fujifilm X100S, along with a Canon 5D Mark III with Canon 135mm f/2.0 L, Canon 35mm f/1.4 L and Canon 24-70 F/2.8 L II.

And check out @petesouza Instagram to see more of his images (including X-Pro2 pics).

Now he seems to have added the X-Pro2 and 23mmF1.4 to his camera bag…. and there is also a Sony A9 I believe on the same table.

A Sign of Things to Come?

A superfamous photographer, a Sony and a Fujifilm, all on the same table. Maybe a symbol of what’s to come in the next 3/4 years: a massive exodus of professional photographers from DSLRs to mirrorless, with Fujifilm and Sony leading the market… or maybe not, time will tell :) .

Carlos Saura (wikipedia), a highly awarded film director, writer and photographer, now uses also Fujifilm (X-T1 and X100). In this 4:41 minute video, he will show you his impressive collection of camera and give you a glance behind the scenes of the creation of his latest photography book.

We already told you about this project back in October 2017 in this GFX roundup here, but since it fits with this article, I thought to give you guys a reminder.

15 Magnum Photographers will explore the theme of “HOME” for the project. All shot with Fujifilm GFX. Photo exhibitions to take in 7 cities worldwide starting from March. More at home-magnum.

Welcome to the Fuji X Club… to All of You :)

I doubt Peter Souza and Carlos Saura know of the existence of this little space on the web called FujiRumors, but either way, I would like to welcome these two impressive photographers to the Fuji X Club.

It’s an honour to have you guys on board of the Fujifilm journey :).

But I must also add… when a few months ago I was able to convince a good friend to switch to Fujifilm, I had the same joy that I feel when I see Beyoncé, Annie Leibovitz, Ara Güler or any other well-known person owning Fujifilm cameras. And when last summer I casually met a Fujifilm wedding photographer (and FR-reader) at work, it was one of my best “blogger moments” of 2017.

Famous or not, for me it’s an honour to serve every single one of you guys, who one day decided to try out the Fujifilm system and now chooses to stop here at FujiRumors and to be part of this amazing community. My heart and soul (and tons of time) goes into this blog, and I will always give my best to honour your partecipation as good as I can.

Today I have a rather uncoventional miXed zone for you… it’s not really about a specific camera, or Fujinon glass, or X-Trans or accessories, or the GFX…

It’s just some miXed stuff, also gravitating around the X-series (but not exclusively), that I thought you might also be interested to check out.

I’ll include also some curiosities, like a Fujifilm X-series camera used (again) for a Hollywood movie. But also Kawasaki and Nintendo decided to use Fuji cameras in their ads…. the Fuji beauty does not pass unnoticed… not even to star wars director Ron Howard.

Major Fujifilm X-Pro2 Kaizen Firmware Update Will Add 4K Video and More

Sorry, I was too excited to type… but now I’m more calm… so let me try again to write it down for you ;)

Dear Fujifilm Shooters,

some of you might remember, when back in 2013, the godfather of the Fujifilm X-series, Mr. Kawahara, said in this interview of 2013 that they are committed to improve their cameras via firmware updates because “we want you to use our camera longer and longer in your life.” (Note: Kawahara left Fujifilm in 2016, as reported here).

And indeed, we have seen many huge Kaizen firmware updates for many cameras in these years.

The FW updates were so big, that Fujifilm had to re-write entire camera manuals several times and Rico had to republish updated versions of his Fuji Tips and Tricks ebooks. And (unless you are an X100S/T) owner, you had the pleasure to feel what it means to “download a complete new camera… for free“.

Well… today I’m very excited to tell you, that there will be Kaizen love again… also for the Fujifilm X-Pro2!

Fujifilm X-Pro2: Level Up

I hear from trusted sources, that Fujifilm is working on a major firmware update for the Fujifilm X-Pro2, which will, among the others, give X-Pro2 owners 4K video and more.

Here on FujiRumors, the community asked for 4K on X-Pro2 multiple times, in dedicated articles and comments, and finally also Fuji Guy Billy joined Fujirumors critics on February 2017, when he said here he is also “fighting with Japan” to implement 4K on X-Pro2.

Well… it seemed all this pressure helped ;)

So, dear X-Pro2 shooters… be patient, and you will get your Kaizen Love.

Oh… and feel free to share the joy with all of us at the Fujifilm X-Pro user group on facebook. We also have an X-T User Group, if you are interested.

Time To Dream

4K is sure. But what else would you like? Tethering? And maybe the ability to adjust ISO via command dial? Anything else? Well, then say it here in the comments… you know those guys at the Fujifilm headquarter read us and X-ray your comments :)

Can Fujifilm ignore a unique community on the world-wide web that is able to drop 11,000 votes in a single poll within 2 days? Nope, they simply can’t :)

And if there is a reason why Fujifilm’s most known top manager, Toshihisa Iida, “loves” FujiRumors, then it’s because you guys provide Fujifilm an umatched amount of (free) feedback every single day in your comment and poll votes.

Your diligent (and massive) participation allowed Fujirumors to become the privileged channel that connects Fujifilm to its customers… this is more that I could have ever hoped for this blog! Thanks guys :)

Now, to keep our feet well set on the ground, I will also say that I’m aware we can’t always influence Fujifilm’s decision…

… however, sometimes, we can :)

In fact, it was your feedback and negative poll results, that killed the monochrome X-Pro1 and your positive pressure that revived the X-E3 plans and made Fujifilm say here “we are aware of the many X-E3 request”.  The feedback you give in polls makes it to internal Fujifilm meetings with the Press and, as said before, even Fujifilm top manager Toshihisa Iida “Loves” FujiRumors.

So guys, never stop it and keep up sharing your daily feedback to Fujifilm :)

Sony’s Fast & Furious Hardware Updates Vs. Fuji’s Kaizen Philosophy :: What’s the Better Strategy to Win the Mirrorless Battle? – POLL

Dear Fujifilm, We Love Kaizen… but the New Wireless Tethering is “a JOKE”!

We have praised Fujifilm Kaizen Philosophy countless times, and just recently Fujifilm delivered again several updates for a bunch of Fujifilm cameras. So thanks Fujifilm for you ongoing support :)

But you know, FujiRumors is a free and independent space (thanks to your support, guys), and when something is wrong or does not work as expected, I will share it here on FujiRumors…. and today I would like to talk about the Wireless tethering introduced with the recent update.

I got some emails of Fujifilm shooters, telling me the WiFi Tethering is disappointing, because you have to make it run via router, so useless on location (you can go for the Transcend WiFi SD-card and this WiFiImport Lightroom Plugin if you need Wireless tethering on location – read all the instructions at danielzihlmann).

Anyway, still good for your own studio, right? Not really.

The problem? The data transmission is extremely slow. It is in fact so slow, that Fujifilm itself, at the very bottom of their (rather long) wireless tethering setup guide here says:

“Wi‑Fi connections conform to IEEE 802.11b/g/n standard and are slower than USB. Given the extremely long times required, we recommended that you do not attempt to upload RAW images or other large files via Wi‑Fi.”

So you got it. The connection is basically too slow to transfer RAW files (about 1.5 MB/s transmission rate only!), which is quite a bummer. How many of you guys shoot JPEG in studio? And btw, considering that the JPEG files on the GFX are quite large (especially super-fine JPEGs), it will be a pain even to transfer GFX JPEG files.

Fujifilm also says:

“Place the camera as close as possible to the router. Distances of no more than a few meters are recommended.”

Be aware of this. As etomcat said on the fuji-x-forum here

“the camera (X-T2) has less wireless sensitivity than my iPhone. I need to be literally close to the router to make it work.”

Last but not least, as Rico said at our forum, “live view works with a data rate of only 700 KB/s”

At the Forum, some call the WiFi tethering “a joke”.

With all that said, I know that the Kaizen Love we Fuji Shooters get is something extraordinary… I’m basically complaining at a level 99% of other camera brand owners actually envy us.

It’s just, this WiFi tethering is not really a practical and usable solution, and my job here on FujiRumors is first of all to keep you guys informed about what’s good, but also about what’s not so good in the Fuji world.

Hey Fuji… want to do something nice? Give X-Pro2 shooters the same ability of X-T2 shooters, to control ISO via command dial ;) … and some people out there also bought a Fujifilm X100S/T, that could get a bit of Kaizen Love too.

So guys, did you test it? You know Fujifilm reads us (and Top Manager Toshihisa Iida even “loves” us), so feel free to leave your feedback in the comments.

Physically, it looks like the same camera, but only after using it will you realize the differences and improvements are significant.”
