EXCLUSIVE: Date of Next Fujifilm X Summit LEAKED

X Summit Date Leaked

Thanks to our amazing sources, we have now received the date for the next Fujifilm X Summit.

But before I share it, one important disclaimer.

You know better than me at this point, Fujifilm X Summit dates are nothing 100% sure, even if it’s Fujifilm itself to tell you the date. In fact, the officially proudly announced April X Summit has been canceled and on the last day of April Fujifilm announced its cancelation.

So, I am going to share the date with you today, but I can’t 100% exclude that there will be changes. And if there will be, I will let you know.

With that said, here is the date.

According to our trusted sources, the next Fujifilm X Summit will take place on September 12.

Yes, that’s still quite far away. And yes, that makes it even more “risky” for me to share, as there is lots of time until that date and changes can happen anytime.

But if I share the date anyway with you, it means that I have good reasons to be confident about this date. A confidence that is given to me by our trusted sources.

Déjà vu Anyone?

Some of you guys might have some Déjà vu now and remember that date from somewhere.

Well, I actually have reported about that date a while back here, when thanks to our reader, who digged in the depths of the registration, we spotted the registrations for two new cameras, the FF220002 on May 26 and the FF230001 on September 12.

In that article I warned you though that usually registrations don’t actually fit with the real announcement date. I’ve checked back and here are some examples:

  • X-S20: registrations says May 26 / reality May 24
  • GFX100S: registrations says January 29 / reality January 27
  • X-T200: registrations says January 24  / reality January 23

And in 90% of the cases registrations don’t even give any date at all (or even become public only AFTER the camera has already been announced, as it was the case of the X-E4 registration).

But this time around the registration could well fit the real announcement date according to our sources.

Don’t Miss Out on the Fun

Don’t miss out on the fun ahead of the X Summit, with LOTS (!!!) of rumors to come (I promise ;)) only here on FujiRumors and, if you want, also on my YouTube channel, where not only you will get all the rumors, but often also some travel tips as I will show you around one of the most beautiful places the world has to offer.

Because new gear is nice and good. But investing in experiences and travels is just as gratifying if not more. And it’s one of the best ways to make good use of our awesome gear.

Fujifilm X Summit on May 24 at 9AM (GMT) – 5AM New York Time

A little update:

We already told you that Fujifilm officially confirmed our previous rumors and announced the Fujifilm X Summit for May 24 in Bangkok.

If you wonder at what time it will take place, then here it is: it will be at 9AM GMT which should be 5AM New York Time and 11AM Berlin Time.

FujiRumors has so far rumored two cameras and one lens.

Maybe some of this (or something else) will drop on May 24. In any case we can be sure there will be surprises (as it is with every X summit). So definitely stay tuned on FujiRumors for the live blog.

Fujifilm Announces X Summit in April 2023, Massive New Firmware for X-H2S and Promises More Firmware for other Cameras in 2023

Fujifilm has published a video with the New Year Greetings 2023 (vide below). And it comes with a few interesting tidbits.

Most interesting for us:

  • GFX grant challenge winners will be announced in March
  • improved Autofocus system via firmware update for X-H2s
    – improved motion prediction output, for better tracking even if subject moves in and out of frame and speed changes
    – AI deep learning subject detection improvement for tracking human faces in the most tricky conditions, and more subjects can be detected (such as drones)
  • more firmware for other 5th generation cameras are being prepared for 2023 and you can look forward to them
  • Fujifilm X Summit will be held in April with Fujikina to be hold at the same time of the X summit

Of course the X summits are here to introduce new products. Feel free to drop your guess in the comments… the answer will follow on FujiRumors ;).

Why the Fujifilm X-H2 Coming September 8 will tell us A LOT about the Fujifilm X-T5

When I shared the rumor that the Fujifilm X-T5 won’t be announced during the X Summit on September 8, there was understandably quite some disappointment and some of you guys waiting for the X-T5 seem to have mostly lost any interest in the September X Summit event.

And while I can relate to that (I am also much more interested about the X-T5 rather than the X-H2), you should keep in mind that while September 8th will be mainly an event for the Fujifilm X-H2, we will learn a lot also about the Fujifilm X-T5!

Why?

Well, because according to our information, Fujifilm will not offer any stacked sensor Fujifilm X-T5S, but they will offer a 40MP Fujifilm X-T5.

And since the Fujifilm X-T5 will share the same sensor and processor of the Fujifilm X-H2, the X-T5 will perform identically to the X-H2 in many crucial areas such as:

  • same improved ISO performance (both will have the new lower base ISO)
  • same dynamic range
  • overall image quality will be identical
  • X-H2 will tell us how well current lenses will work on the high resolution 40MP sensor also of X-T5
  • Autofocus speed and accuracy of X-H2 and X-T5 will be identical

But of course, there will (or could) also be differences between X-H2 and X-T5:

Unclear at this point:

  • it is unclear as of now if the X-T5 will have the same video features of the X-H2 (for example 8K video)
  • it is unclear if the X-T5 will have the same continuous bursts speed of X-H2
  • it is unclear if the X-T5 will have a selfie screen or change the screen design over X-H2
  • and much more…

So even for people potentially interested in the Fujifilm X-T5, watching close at the performance of the Fujifilm X-H2 will be very important as it will unveil a lot about the performance of the X-T5 itself.

Fujifilm GFX100: No IBIS/OIS Combo, X-H1 vs GFX IBIS, Fujifilm GFX 100 Media Sheets, F-Log and More

In a recent interview, Fujifilm managers unveiled that it took them 3 years to develop the IBIS mechanism for the Fujifilm GFX100.

1.5 years were shared with the Fujifilm X-H1 IBIS mechanism development. But once the IBIS for X-H1 was ready, it took them additional 1.5 years for Fujifilm GFX100 IBIS.

At Fujikina 2019 in Toyko, Fujifilm displayed the ASP-C and MF IBIS units. You can see the difference in the image below.

Imaging-resource also shared a video and some GFX100 media slides. They say:

  • IBIS and OIS do not work together. Could change in future with firmware update, as it happened with Fujifilm X-H1
  • 4K@30p full sensor readout, but uses line skipping in vertical direction

The Fujifilm X-H1 IBIS looks small next to the Fujifilm GFX100 one. However, the X-H1 IBIS is still too big. It’s one of Fuji’s priorities to make it even smaller in order to give us a smaller Fujifilm X-H2, or maybe even fit it into a future Fujifilm X-T4 and X-T40 or any other camera that might come down the road.

Fujifilm Manager Interview: We Have a GFX Sensor Roadmap and GF Lenses are Future Proof for Sensors Beyond 100 MP

Fujifilm GFX100

We have already posted a first Fujifilm manager interview earlier today here. It’s a good one, with lots of information, including the future of the Fujifilm X-H line. Make sure to read it!

Also B&H Photo, Adorama, Samys and Henrys are at Fujikina 2019, and they had the opportunity to go hands on with the Fujifilm GFX100 as well as have talks with Fujifilm managers.

BHphoto has published its GFX100 first impressions here.

I have put together the main points of the various interviews down below:

  • Fujifilm manager Justin explains why calling the Fujifilm GFX100 “large format” makes sense
  • Fujifilm has a medium format sensor roadmap, and GF lenses are future proof since they can resolve more than 100 megapixel
  • 1/4 of a second at 200mm gave tack sharp images
  • shutter shock absorbers in the GFX100
  • going at 5fps continuous shooting with a medium format 102 MP camera is unheard of
  • Adorama says it feels like shooting a flagship DSLR as opposed to medium format
  • Adorama says they can’t believe it, and that Fujifilm is changing a lot
  • Fuji manager Justin says Fujifilm is trying to re-invent photography
  • Fujifilm needed 3 years to develop IBIS for the Fujiiflm GFX100. 1.5 years of development were shared with the Fujifilm X-H1 IBIS development, and another 1.5 years for the IBIS on the GFX100 only

One of the advantages of medium format, is that it is easier to design high-resolution lenses for it.

So if resolution, sharpness, cropping flexibility, big prints and having future proof files for upcoming high res screens is important to you, investing in GFX large format is the way to go.
