Testing the Fujifilm GFX in Extreme Conditions, Hcam Double Shifter for GFX, and Stunning Fujifilm Medium Format Images

Fujifilm GFX is Tough (Tougher Than Sony ;) )

We already reported here, how the Fujifilm GFX 50S faced an extreme blizzard, and came out with absolutely no problems ;).

And knowing that the Fujifilm GFX it’s so tough, also our fellow GFX owners at the facebook group are not scared to use it under extreme conditions.

John Rourke for example is not afraid to let his Fujifilm GFX in the snow, as you can see here. Here is what he says about his GFX.

still shooting strong on everyday temperatures of -8 to -17 in Switzerland“.

Another GFX shooter, Graham Welland, took it out in the rain forest. He shares his experience here.

Weatherproof testing in the rain forest, literally pouring rain and dripping camera.

Only problem area was the EVF. A drop of water blocked the eye sensor enough that the LCD flipped to the EVF. Took a minute to work out what had happened (ie camera hadn’t failed) and once I soaked that up we were back in action.”

Looks like the Fujifilm GFX is tougher than the Sony A7RIII, which failed in a recent weather sealing test made by imaging-resource here on youtube.

Hcam Double Shifter

Our Fujifilm GFX group is also a great resource to find any GFX related news, and inspiration of content not only for FujiRumors ;) .

Today we say thanks to Hcam manager Stefan Steib, who informed us in this GFX facebook post of January 22 about the new Hcam Shifter. Full details in this Hcam facebook post.

For all the Fuji GFX Users –

here is our proposal for a double shift version with tilt –
using Mamiya 645, Pentax 645/ 67 or Hasselblad V/F lenses.

It´s a combination of our DRS Shifter for GFX
plus the perfectly matching Mirex M645, P645/ 67
or Hasselblad V/F adapters.

The Kitprice for both adapters is 1695,-€ for all versions.

For more infos please PM me at s.steib@hcam.de

Of course Stefan is actively replying and answering all the questions regarding this adapter, so feel free to join the discussion here.

And before I leave you with some stunning images shared at our group, make sure to join not only our 16,000+ strong GFX facebook group, but also follow our dedicated Fujifilm GFX facebook page for 100% GFX news and rumors

Meike MK420-F TTL Flash for Fujifilm, One Minute Lighting Setup, 10 Lighting Tips for Portraits – Flash Roundup

Meike MK420F

Back in 2015, we already reported about the Meike MK320F flash for Fujifilm. But that’s not the only flash Meike offers for Fujifilm.

There is one, that so far passed unnoticed, but not to the eyes of FR-reader Peter here, who told us about the Meike MK420 TTL flash for Fujifilm, that has actually been released back June 2017, but since nobody reported about it, let’s catch up now here on FujiRumors. Peter writes:

The Mk420 is a much larger flash than the Mk320. Whereas the Mk320 is a specialized flash with a really small form factor, compromising on power, zoom and swivel in favor of size and weight (it looks a bit like just the flash head part of a speedlite without the body), the Mk420 looks more like a traditional flash. If the measurements on the internet are correct, the size is somewhere between the Godox TT350F and the Yongnuo YN560 series.”

Here are the main specs of the Meike MK420-F via AmazonUS:

  • High GN:42 (ISO100 ,105mm)
  • Flash mode: TTL M S1 S2
  • Equipped with longlife lithium battery:one-key operation to install or unstall; Battery flashes:300-2500 times
  • Vertical Rotation Angle: -7-90 degrees; Horizontal Rotation Angle: 0-180 degrees
  • LED-Assistive preview focus;Memory function;Temperature detection automatically

You can purchas the Meike MK420F for Fujifilm at AmazonUS, AmazonDE, AmazonUK

Nissin Air10s Wireless TTL Commander for Fujifilm Cameras Available February 21

Nissin Air10S

Before we start, here is a super-quick Nissin Air10S recap

  • February 2017: Nissin announces their Air10S wireless commander also for Fujiflm
  • May 2017: Announcement of postponement. Sony version expected for July, and Fujifilm version to be released in the following months
  • June 2017: Nissin Air10S Fujifilm version available for pre-order at BHphoto

Waiting…

And finally, it seems we got it. BHphoto marks the Nissin Air10S for Fujifilm available for February 21.

But I wonder… how many of you have switched to Godox in the meantime?

And remember, as we reported here, if you own an older Nissin i40, i60A, Di700A and Air 1 Commander, there is a firmware update to make them HSS compatible with Fujifilm cameras, but you have to send it in to Nissin to perform the update.

To see if your device is already Fujifilm compatible, check out the Nissin boxes. Full instructions in this article.

And back on December 14, 2017, Nissin re-released the Nissin Air 10S press release at their website here.

Venus Optics to Launch Laowa 9mm F2.8 lens for Fujifilm X Series

Laowa 9mm F2.8 for Fuji X

SonyAlphaRumors leaked the images of the Laowa 9mm F2.8 lens, which will come soon for Fujifilm X, Sony E and Canon EOS M APS-C cameras. Below you can see some sample images, also leaked by SAR. One sample shows the distortion, which seems to be minimal.

Laowa lenses are made by the Chinese manufacturer Venus Optics, but as already highlighted by TheCameraStoreTV in their Best/Worst 2017 epsiode, we see more and more quality products coming from China, and they specifically mention Laowa lenses amongst those Chinese quality products.

Speaking of Chinese quality products, I own the small Chinese Sirui T-025x carbon Travel Tripod, which so far never let me down and I consider excellent value for the money. It might not last forever like a $1,000 Gitzo Tripod, but it’s really well made and you can buy 5 Sirui tripods for that money ;) . Recommended!

And then, think at Chinese drones or Godox speedlights and so forth. Sure, there is still a lot of cheap stuff coming from China, but we start to see some good products too… and Laowa lenses are definitely one of the best expressions of the Chinese photography industry.

So it’s great to see them offering soon native X-mount lenses.

DPReview Top Gear 2017 Awards: Sony Wins Big. Fujifilm X-E3 and X100F Runner-Up

via camerasize

DPReview Awards 2017

DPReview just declared their favorite gear of 2017.

The big winner is Sony, with the best product of the year, the Sony A7rIII and more awards. Fujifilm does not win anything, but is Runner-Up in the Midrange ILC (X-E3) and Compact Camera (X100F) category.

If I should highlight just one thing that I (respectfully) do not agree with DPReview: I think the Fujifilm X100F would have made a much better “compact camera” award winner than the rather huge Sony RX10 IV.

Here are the winners:

And the rest of the awards go to…
