Fujifilm X-Pro3 Top Selling Camera on FujiRumors in October + Top Selling Lenses & More

TOP 3 SELLING…

Top Accessories / Bags

Top Fujifilm Series Cameras

Despite the crazy X-H1 rebate and the big X-T3 savings, the Fujifilm X-Pro3 stood its ground, and, at least here on FujiRumors, enjoyed a good start. But sure, once the launch-frenzy settles down, the X-T3 will claim its top spot again.

Top Fujinon X Lenses

Top Fujifilm GFX Gear

All Fujinon GF lenses (except for GF50mm f/3.5) are now heavily discounted. See the full list of discounted GF lenses here.

Turns out FR-readers prefer either very fast lenses (GF110/2) or the flexibility of zooms.

Top X Mount Third Party Lenses/Adapters

The fire-sale on the Mitakon 35/0.95 pushed the lens back on top. The Viltrox 85/1.8 remains stable in the list.

Top Software

  1. Capture One Pro 12
  2. Luminar 4
  3. ON1 Photo RAW

Capture One Pro 12 is on an unstoppable victory parade, being by a very (!!!) large margin your top choice when it comes to RAW editing software. Nothing comes close it, even though Luminar 4 is on a worthy second place (but still worlds away from Capture One Pro).

As I told you, I myself left Adobe forever, to go all in with Capture One Pro 12.

All APS-C Shortcomings Exposed in this Image Roundup, and How I Couldn’t “Recover” my Wife – #photosfujicanttake

Photos Fuji Can’t Take

Sometimes I wonder, why do I stick with APS-C and plague myself into a world full of photographic shortcomings?

It’s frustrating, for example recently, when I edited an image of my wife watching a sunset.

I exposed for the highlights, and my wife turned out basically pitch black, you can’t even see her shiny yellow dress.

Now watch the image below (or link to the video) and see how impossible it was to recover her with my APS-C Fujifilm X-E3 file. I needed hours and hours of editing, but it turned out completely unusable anyway. A memory thrown away due to my underperforming APS-C camera.

But my case is just one of many that fall under the section #photosfujicanttake.

So, I will list a few more images exposing the terrible shortcomings of Fujifilm APS-C, all shared at our Fujifilm X-T User group, which is full of depressed photographers dreaming of full frame or even medium format.

Sure, some brave guys try to compensate for the immense APS-C limitations with creativity and skills, but that’s not going to work at the end. We all know true photography is all about specs, 500% magnification and 10+ stops push.

I know it’s hard to digest, but the images below show that APS-C simply can’t deliver. Luckily Apple gave us a Pro photographer iPhone 11 Max. I think I am going to try with that one.

NOTE: I hope your sarcasm detector is ON ;)

Viltrox EF-FX2 Focal Reducer With Autofocus Reviews

Viltrox EF-FX2

The Viltrox EF-FX2 AF Smart Adapter focal reducer is a welcome addition to the other “speedboosters” available for Fujifilm X, the Metabones Speedbooster and the Kipon Baveyes EF-FX AF 0.7x.

The reviewes so far are very positive, and make it look like a good option.

You can check pricing and specs at AmazonUS and BHphoto.

Sigma CEO: “Fujifilm Customers Would be Our Ideal Customer, but Fujifilm Does Not Disclose Their Protocols”

Sigma Fujifilm

Just a few weeks ago we reported how the Sigma CEO said that, he would really like to make Fujifilm X mount lenses, but resources are limited and other projects have priority.

And today, in an interview with DPReview, when asked if Sigma is planing to make Fujifilm X mount lenses, Sigma CEO Kazuto Yamaki answered:

I have [had] many questions about it. I know that some [Fujifilm] customers are wishing for us to make lenses for them. It’s always a matter of priority. We know there are many good customers of the Fuji system and they’re perfectly matched with our ideal customer but [Fujifilm doesn’t] really disclose the protocol between the lens and camera, so we need to do the reverse engineering by ourselves.

It’s a really time-consuming process so we need to prioritize support for Sony E mount, our L-mount system, existing DSLR mounts and Micro Four Thirds.”

DPReview then adds:

According to Mr Yamaki, the cost of the R&D required is easy to justify for major mounts, where sales are guaranteed. The flip-side, of course, is that for systems with a relatively small market share, and / or a large range of attractive native options already in existence – like Fujifilm X – it’s a trickier proposition.”

Just recently, Fujifilm top manager Toshihisa Iida said here that Fujifilm does not believe they need to share their X mount protocols with third-party manufactures, since Fujifilm offers already lots of glass.

On the other hand, when asked about third parties reverse engineering their lenses, Toshihisa Iida said “I guess that’s good for customers“, which to me sounds like they won’t sue Viltrox for making the Viltrox 85mm f/1.8.

Yes, dear Fujifilm, customers like indeed more lenses!

So please, share those protocols and help even more people to join the X family, by widen your lens offer and open for third parties. Because, as they say, we buy cameras, but we marry lenses. And the more sexy lenses a system has, the more people will buy into and stick with it.

Not sure if it mitigates the pain, but you can for example use the Fringer Smart AF adapter, which supports the Sigma 50/1.4 ART, Sigma 85/1.4 ART, Sigma 17-50/2.8 OS, Sigma 50-100/1.8 ART, Sigma 24/1.4 ART, Sigma 135/1.8 ART, Sigma 100-400 and many more.
