All In With the Fujifilm GFX :: GF110mm… the Must Have G-mount Lens :: DPReview GF23mm Sample Gallery… and More (GFX zone)

Fujifilm GFX

So it happens, that almost 7 months after its launch, the Fujifilm GFX 50s is ranked as the #69 best selling mirrorless camera. To me, that does not sound bad at all.

The Fujifilm GFX 50s is just the beginning of something new and awesome in the medium format world, just like the Fujifilm X100 and X-Pro1 were the beginning of something new and awesome in the APS-C world.

But while it took Fujifilm a couple of years to finally launch a mature product and have huge success in the APS-C world (X-Trans2 cameras and especially X-T1), I think that the next iteration of Fujifilm’s medium format cameras, the Fujifilm GFX 100S (or however they will call it) will already be a 100% mature product, especially if it will feature Sony’s 100MP BSI sensor that Sony officially announced at the CEBit here.

But until then, the Fujifilm GFX 50s is already a great tool, and a whole lot of fun to use today.

And now… one of the most appreciated sections of the GFX roundups: the images.

I know it means a lot to you guys if I share your work on FujiRumors. As photographers, you can need any visibility (and improved SEO google search results) you can get on the web, and I know I can help with it.

More visibility can also mean more clients for you guys.

This is why I keep it up, of course giving you all the credit you deserve for your great work, even if these image roundups are a really very time consuming activity for me. But I really want to support your as much as I can.

What’s Next From Fujifilm? … and First 2017 Rumor Check (100% Correct Rumors)

Two or three times a year, I feel like I need to put a bit of order in the whirlwind of rumors, and give you guys a well-ordered overview of the rumors shared so far this year by FujiRumors.

It’s also the opportunity for me to check back the accuracy of all the rumors I’ve shared this year.

So high time for some facts:

  • 229 blog post published so far in 82 days (2017)
  • 36 rumors shared in 82 days (2017)
  • 12 rumors still to be verified
  • 24 correct rumors out of 24 verifiable rumors
  • 0 wrong rumors out of 24 verifiable rumors
  • 100% correct rumors

Sure, there are still 12 rumors that have to be verified, not all will be correct (because they are wrong or Fujifilm will change plans), but I’d say of the 12 remaining, I wouldn’t be surprised if most are correct.

A big hug goes to all sources, from the most anonmyous to the most trusted one, who decided to help me to find the right path in the fake rumor jungle and to put excitement in the Fuji world by sharing accurate rumors. You make being an Fuji shooter even more fun :-)

Also, thanks to everybody, who spotted some interesting Fuji related news/rumor/deal/review on the web, and took his/her time to drop me an email with the link to it. Much appreciated… and feel free to keep it up.

thanks to all,

Fujifilm GFX: Dynamic Range Tests, Long Exposures, Sharpness… and Having FUN with Third Party Lenses!

Robert F.: shared here – First long exposure shot (40 sec.) at lake starnberg / bavaria. Love the dynamic range :-).

_ _ _

HOLY MOLY!!! I just realized that I didn’t post a dedicated GFX article in the last 7 blog posts… so high time for a dedicated GFX roundup. :)

As usual, all of it comes from our 9,600+ strong Fujifilm GFX facebook group. It’s simply a great resource for all things GFX. And what I post here is just a small fraction of what has been shared in the group the last few days. So in today’s roundup we will see:

  • A series of perfect long exposure shots
  • Some more images
  • Dynamic Range Tests
  • Sharpness Demonstration
  • Having Fun with Third Party Lenses

I’d like to add a few words to the last point, the fun with third party lenses.

There are really a lot of photographers at our GFX group, who enjoy to combine all kind of lenses on their GFX. To me, this is without a doubt one of the most fun aspects of this camera. The GFX really breaths new life into old glass, which btw, I hear has in some cases doubled its price on ebay, since the GFX launch.

So, focussing on sharpness and dynamic range is all well and good. But what I perceive in the group, is that the Fujifilm GFX has also a huge fun-factor, that results especially from his flexibility and adaptability to all kind of glass (also FF lenses, as you will see below).

There are already many adapters available on the market, for example from Fotodiox to Kipon, and more are in development, such as the smart adapter for Contax 645 lenses by Fringer.

This huge third-party lenses fun-factor would be basically non-existant, if Fujifilm would have opted for a “focal plane shutter-less” camera, since the camera would then work only with leaf shutter lenses.

And a final note about the endless leaf shutter Vs. focal plane shutter discussion: as photographlife pointed out in a review I’ve shared here:

Considering that leaf shutter lenses cannot have very large apertures (and as of now, all three Hasselblad lenses are limited to f/3.2-f/3.5 maximum aperture), I struggle to find the real appeal of the leaf shutter lenses aside from the flash sync speed. If you are after beautiful bokeh, the focal plane shutter is the way to go.

KIPON will Soon Announce Fujifilm GFX Adapters, Including Tilt-Shift Adapter (New Source)

According to a new source, KIPON will soon announce a series of adapters for Fujifilm GFX, including tilt-shift adapters.

Kipon is already offering adapters for Fujifilm X-mount lenses. See them at AmazonUS and Adorama.

Currently Fotodiox offers 10 adapters for Fujifilm GFX. There is also the Fujifilm made H Mount Adapter for GFX and Fringer is working on a smart adapter for Contax 645 lenses. Some GFX owners are also 3D printing their own adapters.

Fotodiox Launches Several G-Mount Adapters :: Fujifilm GFX Final Release Date February 28 (PRESS RELEASE)

GFX ADAPTER

Fuji Guy Billy is one of Fujifilm GFX members, and he shared the image above on the group. There are many adapters coming for the GFX, especially made by Fotodiox.

Here are some of them:

Overall, there is a lot happening in the world of adapters for the GFX. A short recap:

  • Fujifilm launched its own Hasselblad adapter for GFX, to allow you to use leaf shutter lenses on the GFX.
  • Images of more adapters for Leica M, Zeiss Otus, Mamiya, Schneider-Kreuznach started to appear on the web, and have been first shared on the amazing GFX facebook group here and FujiRumors here.
  • A rumor I got says that Fringer plans a G-mount / Contax 645 smart adapter (full auto)
  • I’ve also shared with you a Chinese test that includes images taken with many different adapters for GFX, such as Mamiya, Schneider-Kreuznach, Zeiss Otus and more at blog.sina translations – NOTE: on my computer, the images are visible only on the original Chinese version.
  • Some fellow X-shooters are already developing 3D printed adapters…. and they work just fine

GFX FINAL RELEASE DATE

There was a bit of confusion about when the GFX and lenses will be released. Now Japan issued a press release, where they say the Medium Format system will hit the market on February 28. AmazonUS also says they will start shipping on February 28. BHphoto says March 1 and Adorama February 24.

So everything more or less as originally planed. Seems that Fujifilm got it right this time… or that pre-orders are not high, and hence they have no problem to deliver to customers.
