Fujifilm X-E4: Minimalist Tool and X100V or X-E4 for Street Photography?

The Fujifilm X-E line was always on the brink of extinction.

Several times Fujifilm considered to kill the line, as it is not really profitable. But it was saved by the rather loud voices within the Fujifilm community to keep that line alive, and also a small but stubborn minority inside the Fujifilm management, who believes the X-E has its raison d’être.

The first to risk never to see the light of the day was the Fujifilm X-E3. But as Fujifilm managers told us in this interview, they took note of the strong requests for an X-E3 and finally they decided to deliver.

Later on, and you can be sure of that, Fujifilm decided to drop the X-E line again. And yet, once again, the pressure build up inside Fujifilm and also outside by its customers, to keep the X-E line alive.

And once again, we won :). The X-E4 is here and down below we can share a mini-roundup about the X-E4.

A little side note: for what it’s worth, it is the by very far best selling X-E camera among the FujiRumors community, and it has now officially beaten the X-S10 in terms of pre-orders (always just here on FujiRumors).

However, it should be noted that out there in the real world, the X-S10 outsells by far the X-E4. But it’s already great to see that the response for the X-E4 was very positive at least among the FR community.

With that said, here is a bit more content X-E4 content for you.

Fujifilm GFX100S: The Beauty is in the Details, Flat Out for Success, Why You Want this Camera and AF on X-T3 Level (pre FW 4.00)

The Beauty is in the Details

In a Fujifilm GFX100S hand-on video titled “Why You Want this Camera” (shared below), a professional landscape photographer says: “the beauty is in the details“.

He obviously referred to the massive amount of megapixel he can work with and the consequent terrific textures and details he gets out of his shots, also thanks to the sharpest lenses you can buy for any mirrorless system: the GF lenses.

But since we talk about the beauty of details, I’d like to highlight one with you that so far passed widely unnoticed.

German youtuber Thomas noticed a little welcome detail on the 3-way tilt screen of his Fujifilm GFX100S review sample. As opposed to Fuji’s previous 3-way tilt screen solution, on the GFX100S you can slide out the screen a bit when it’s tilted upwards, extending it far enough that the LCD won’t be blocked by the protruding viewfinder (see image above).

Nice detail also here :).

With that said, I will share all new GFX100S videos and blog posts below, and the German one of Thomas comes with English summary I made for you (I teach German, so I hopefully do a better job than the automatic google translation tool. And btw., if you want to hear one of my students giving feedback about my lessons, check out this article).

Also the GFX100S video shared by Pictureline called “Why You Want this Camera” is a very nice one, less focused on gear talk, and more on field use of the GFX100S. II found it quite inspirational, I think you’ll like it too.

New Fujifilm Camera FF200002 Registered on January 31, 2021, and Why It’s a Curious Case (X-E4)

FR-reader Kent (thanks), just informed me that he spotted the registration made on January 31, 2021, of a new Fujifilm digital camera with the code name FF200002.

The strange thing here is, that in terms of registrations we had two registered cameras recently:

  • FF200001 registered Sept. 2, 2020 = X-S10
  • FF200003 registered Dec. 14, 2020 = GFX100S

It was just a matter of time until the FF200002 would appear, and it did so on January 31 at the launchstudio bluetooth registration page here.

So which camera is the FF200002?

The answer is: the Fujifilm X-E4!

I know that, because I have watched countless of youtube videos about the X-E4, and in one of them I noticed that when the screen was flipped out, on the backside of the camera you could read “FF200002“.

But it’s strange: the X-E4 is the first camera that gets registered after it has been announced. We told you in this article that it Fujifilm usually registers cameras from 1 to 6 months ahead of announcement.

Well, I guess this means from now on we have to count also with the possibility, that Fujifilm will announce cameras without them appearing first on some sort of registration website. But don’t worry about that, I will let you know in advance anyway what will come ;).

So let’s update our original article, where we illustrate the time span between registration and announcement of new Fujifilm gear:

  • registered 1 month before announcement = 4 cameras (X-T2, X-E3, X-T100, X-T30)
  • registered 2 months before announcement = 3 cameras (X-T20, X100F, XF10)
  • registered 3 months before announcement = 3 cameras (X-T3, GFX50R, GFX100)
  • registered 6 months before announcement = 2 cameras (X-H1, X100V)
  • registered 4 days after after announcement = 1 camera (X-E4)

We did report how all over Europe Fujifilm has launched interesting deals.

The Curious Case of the Fujinon XF50mmF1.0: The Most Loved Worst Lens Ever is Hard to Find in USA and Widely Available in EU

The Fujinon XF50mm f/1.0 is a curious lens for two reasons:

FIRST: It was announced back in September 2020, and until today, it is still very hard to find in stock in USA. Sure, the pre-orders exceeded “by far” Fujifilm’s expectations, said Fujifilm itself. And also here on FujiRumors it was the by very far best selling Fujinon XF lens of 2020, beaten in terms of lens sales only by one very affordable third party option, as you can read here.

The strange thing here is that the Fujinon XF50mmF1.0 is widely available in EU. You can find it in stock for example at AmazonDE, CalumetDE, WexUK, ParkcamerasUK, AmazonUK and more stores. No Idea why there is this discrepancy.

SECOND: The Fujinon XF50mmF1.0 was declared the worst lens of 2020 by DPRTV here due to the lens being soft and showing too much chromatic aberration. But it became clear that opinions would diverge quite a bit. Christoper Forst called it easily the sharpest lens he has ever tested at f/1.0 here, Cameralabs said it has tremendous details from center to corner here, and ephotozine concluded in their technical analysis that the chromatic aberration control is impressive and called this lens “magicalhere.

Now, looking at the first and rather enthusiastic customer reviews at AmazonUS here and BHphoto here, we can say there is probably not much wrong with this lens.

That’s the curious case of the XF50mmF1.0: the most loved worst lens ever that is finally easy to get all over the world… unless you live in USA.

Fujifilm X-E4 – Make More With Less: Fujifilm Manager Interview, Eye AF demo, Everything You Need to Know and XF27mmF2.8 R WR

On January 27, the big announcement day for Fujifilm, the little Fujifilm X-E4 was clearly overshadowed by the Fujifilm GFX100S.

And I get it, the GFX100S is definitely more of a revolution for the camera industry than the X-E4.

And yet, as a big X-E line lover, and current owner of the X-E3, I want to bring back some attention to the X-E4.

So far I have not made up my mind if I will get one or not. If I would not already own a 26 MP camera (the X-T4), then I’d probably upgrade. But so far I find myself well with the combination of X-E3 and X-T4. Today I used it to photography my wife and our son, switching between X-E3 with XF35/1.4 and X-T4 with XF80mm Macro. After the shoot, my son and me rested on the couch, as you see here ;).

So, back to the X-E4.

Down below you can find a summary of an interview of Janpanese Fujifilm manager, a few AF demo videos, a comprehensive X-E4 overview as well as some thoughts on the new XF27mmF2.8 R WR.

Also, a few videos from the “make more with less” Fujifilm series dedicated to the Fujifilm X-E4.

Fujifilm GFX100S Record Pre-Orders on FujiRumors: It Beats GFX100, GFX50S and GFX50R… Combined!

On Friday we reported how BHphoto marked the Fujifilm GFX100S as top seller.

I decided to check how pre-orders are going here on FujiRumors… and what I saw was rather unexpected.

The first days of Fujifilm GFX100S pre-orders were stronger than the first days of the GFX100, GFX50S and GFX50R pre-orders combined!

Also, it the GFX100S enjoys stronger pre-orders than any mid range Fujifilm X series camera, such as the X-S10 and X-E4.

Only high end X-series cameras like the X-T4 and X100V still have an advantage over the GFX100S.

Sure, this data is restricted to FujiRumors pre-orders (where mid-range is never selling that well). But in my experience, the more high end we go, the more sales made via FujiRumors can be representative for overall sales for high end cameras (meaning a high end camera that does not sell well among the FR-community, also does not sell well overall on the market).

If so also this time, then this means that Fujifilm landed a big hit with the Fujifilm GFX100S, and I am afraid they’ll need a long time to satisfy all pre-orders!

And to every single one of you, who decided to pre-order their new gear via FujiRumors: thanks so much! I will reward your help with some hot rumors ;).

DPRTV Fujiflm X-E4 First Impressions (and Get Well Soon, Chris!)

DPReview TV has released their first impression video of the brand new Fuijfilm X-E4.

Here are their thoughts:

  • very handsome looking camera with very clean lines, but not same fit and finish of X100V
  • he likes the fron dial with push function
  • has 3.5mm jack
  • headphone jack via USB-C adapter
  • with 27mm/2.8 it weights like the X100V
  • offset EVF is one of the main reasons to get this camera
  • EVF 2.36m dots… eye relief is quite poor, not good if you wear eyeglasses
  • X100V style camera with interchangeable lenses
  • for a bit more money, X-S10 is the better choice (has IBIS)

But most importantly, get well soon Chris!
