NOTE: in the video above you will see me and my GFX100S in action in one of the most colorful pieces of nature + see some images I took with it

I’ve told you that the next Fujifilm X Summit will take place on September 12.

The question is: what will come on that day?

Well, I can now tell you that, for sure, we will get the long rumored Fujifilm GFX100 replacement.

Again: we are talking about the Fujifilm GFX100 replacement (so the successor to this camera here), and not the replacement to the GFX100S, GFX50R or any other GFX camera.

I don’t have indication about anything else to come at this point, but I will make sure to update you as soon as I have solid information.

What I am 100% sure of, though, is that in the next few weeks and months, there will be LOTS of rumors on FujiRumors. I mean, really LOTS of rumors ;).

So, if you want to have a fun time, then stay tuned on this blog and also on the FujiRumors YouTube channel.

Did I already tell you there will be LOTS OF RUMORS? ;)

Fujifilm FF230001 Camera Registration Found: Fujifilm X-S20 and Fujifilm GFX100 Replacement?

Fujifilm has registered a new camera with the codename FF230001, as spotted by the Japanese website Asobinet.

So at this point we have two registered and yet unannounced cameras

FujiRumors has so far rumored two cameras coming in 2023:

I can’t say with certainty that the codename stands for those two cameras, because it could be also another camera.

These codenames could also indicate other cameras.

But one thing I can say with 100% certainty: I am aware of Fujifilm X-Pro4 and Fujifilm GFX50R replacement rumors, but those are 100% fake clickbait rumors.

We remind you that Fujifilm has an announcement on May 24. It will be a very interesting day for us Fujifilm shooters :).

RUMOR: Fujifilm GFX100 Replacement is Next GFX Camera coming in 2023 (Trusted Source)

The Rumor

Many asked me if a new Fujifilm GFX camera would come in 2023.

Well, yes, definitely!

In fact, trusted sources (THANKS) told us that the next Fujifilm GFX camera to come will be the replacement to the Fujifilm GFX100.

So, not the replacement to GFX100S, or the GFX50R or anything else. What we will get is the successor to the Fujifilm GFX100.

That’s 100% sure and solid!

You know I’d never trick you with fake rumors to make traffic. I simply respect you guys too much to do that.

The GFX100

The Fujifilm GFX100 was launched back in 2019 and it was definitely revolutionary for its time, with a backside illuminated 102 megapixel sensor and IBIS, giving medium format speed and flexibility unseen until then in the digital medium format world.

I did go hands on with the Fujifilm GFX100, but these are the three main reasons I did not buy it:

  1. too expensive
  2. too big
  3. I didn’t find it intuitive to use. I much prefer Fujifilm cameras with dedicated dials or at least dedicated PSAM dial.

Fujifilm fixed all these three issues two years later with the Fujifilm GFX100S, a camera that I now own and enjoy using especially for landscape photography but also to document family life.

Personally I’d have looked more forward to a Fujifilm GFX100S with 5th generation goodness or a GFX100R. But I know also the Fujifilm GFX100 has its loyal fellowship and I am working on all the details.

So definitely stay tuned on FujiRumors if you want to know more about it.

Vote the Top Fujifilm GFX Camera You Want in 2023

Just as we did for the top X series camera wish for 2023, we now launch the same survey for the GFX series.

Sure, there are not so many options in this case, since at the moment we have 3 different camera bodies: the GFX100 with integrated battery grip, the GFX100S/50SII and the GFX50R.

And considering that Fujifilm has even stated that they no longer see the need for a GFX50R successor (although later on other managers expressed their wish for that line to continue), we risk to remain with even less options in future.

But this is our space. Here we can wish whatever we want. So I will add a few options that are not impossible for Fujifilm to manufacture (leaving out the modular GFX, as that one needs the global shutter, and that seems to be still far away to become a regular feature in digital cameras).

So we will vote on the following cameras, assuming Fujifilm would use the latest generation sensors (which are the 26MP stacked and 40MP non-stacked sensors we find on our APS-C cameras, just the bigger MF version of it)

  • Fujifilm GFX100S with stacked sensor and PSAM Dial
  • Fujifilm GFX150S with non-stacked 150MP sensor and PSAM Dial
  • Fujifilm GFX100T with stacked sensor and RETRO Dials (basically an X-T* with GFX sensor, as shown by Fuji’s own mock-up here)
  • Fujifilm GFX150T with non-stacked 150MP sensor and RETRO Dials (basically an X-T* with GFX sensor, as shown by Fuji’s own mock-up here)
  • Fujifilm GFX100R with stacked sensor (rangefinder styled)
  • Fujifilm GFX150R with non-stacked 150MP sensor (rangefinder styled)
  • Fujifilm GFX100 with stacked sensor and integrated battery grip
  • Fujifilm GFX150 with non-stacked 150MP sensor and integrated battery grip

In 2023 I want the following Fujifilm GFX camera

Fujifilm Managers Talk 100 Megapixel GFX-R, XF56mmF1.2 MKII, How to Train the New Autofocus, Updated Camera Remote APP and More

image credit - Dave Etchells at imaging-resource.com

Dave Etchells from Imaging Resource met five Japanese Fujifilm managers: Yujiro Igarashi, Makoto Oishi, Jun Watanabe, Kuniko Åo and Shu Amano.

And when 5 managers are needed to answer the questions of 1 single person, you know it’s going to be a very in depth and technical talk.

In fact, it ends up in a 8,000 words interview that I have summed up down below in 1,470 words.

Some notes and considerations ahead of it:

  • Fujifilm says they are working on updating the camera remote App, especially to make it work better with older cameras. They did NOT say they are working on an all new App. But FujiRumors has already shared a rumor that there will be an all new App!
  • Fujifilm aimed to make the GFX system smaller, and the GFX50R served that purpose. Now the GFX100S is perceived as small enough, and so they see “less need for something even more compact“. But they also add “we always look at the market to see if there’s a need to introduce something“. My impression based on this interview is that they currently have no plans for a GFX100R, but they don’t entirely want to rule out this possibility. And in fact, given how well the GFX100S is selling, Fujifilm has no hurry at all to take decisions right now.

These are just two personal notes on what you’ll read below. But there is really a lot more interesting stuff… like how Fujifilm did work to train the new AF and much more.
