Fujifilm X-T50 Price and Main Specs Leaked

Earlier today the first image of the Fujifilm X-T50 leaked and we reported about it here.

Now our sources have also passed us the main specs (besides the one we already leaked a while ago, such as IBIS and 40MP).

Here are the specs for the Fujifilm X-T50:

  • 40MP
  • X Processor 5
  • IBIS
  • 1 SD Card slot
  • not weather sealed
  • NP-W126S battery
  • same EVF of X-T30 (this has to be confirmed still, so don’t take it as 100% rocksolid for now)
  • price €1,499
  • coming in three colors: silver, black and charcoal

Just a comment about the price.

If I am correct, then there is a 50% price increase from X-T30 to X-T50. As a comparison, we got a 30% price increase passing from X-S10 to X-S20.

Sure, I was hoping that the X-T50 would also “just” get a 30% price increase, but also consider that the X-S10 already had IBIS and also uses the same 26MP X-Trans IV sensor of the X-S20, so you were paying for these features already on the X-S10.

On the contrary, the X-T50 features IBIS for the first time on an X-T** camera and also takes the jump to the 40MP realm and X-Trans V sensor. So, seen from this perspective, a 50% makes a bit more sense, although I still consider it quite a hefty price jump.

And in US Dollar?

Well, I have no rumors, but if we apply the 50% price increase in Europe also to the USA, then the X-T50 would end up costing something between $1,300 or $1,400. But that’s just a speculation based on the price increase we have in Europe.

Viltrox TNP-W235 Battery for Fujifilm Coming Soon (and About the Advantage of Using Original Fujifilm Batteries)

Viltrox is going to launch its own NP-W235 third party alternative battery for the Fujifilm X and GFX system, called TNP-W235, as reported at the Chinese Weibo account 独立摄影师联合会.

So far this year the best selling gear on FujiRumors was the new SmallRig NP-W235 (which I own too).

The Viltrox TNP-W235 seems to use the same interface with a built-in USB-C port for direct charging and also the same power (2400 mAh).

The options in terms of third party batteries are substantial and often also of respectable quality.

The two brands I personally use as NP-W235 replacement:

However (and that’s valid also for other companies as far as I know), if you use third party batteries in your Fujifilm cameras, and that third party battery is cause of a problem (for example it swells up and gets stuck in the camera), then, even if your camera is under warranty, you won’t get the problem fixed free of charge. On the other hand, if you use the original battery, for as long your battery is under warranty, every problem caused by the battery itself to the camera will give you access to free warranty repair.

That’s why, if you want to go the 100% safe route during the time you camera is under warranty, you might want to stick with original batteries, so if any problem happens caused by the battery, it will be fixed under warranty.

In all my years using third party batteries, I had my first third party battery fail last year, where my Patona swelled up in my X-E3 and I had to fiddle around to get it out,

The Fujifilm X-T5 is Shipping (and in Stock) – Here are the Top 5 Accessories I Can Recommend

With the Fujifilm X-T5 now shipping (and even being in stock at B&H & co), I thought I make a list of accessories I can recommend to you.

1) Dual Battery Charger, but Which One?

The Fujifilm X-T5 does not come with an external charger in the box, so you better get one.

You can get the Fujifilm original one (BC-W235) or get a more affordable third party solution like the Nitecore FX3 dual charger.

I own both and if I’d have to nail it down to Pros and Cons, I’d say the Fujifilm BC-W235 charges a bit faster but the Nitecore FX3 is more compact and more affordable. So it’s up to you to set your priority.

2) Spare Battery, but Which One?

For many of you the Fujifilm X-T5 might be the first camera with the new NP-W235 battery. And even though you’ll enjoy much longer battery life compared to the NP-W126S, it’s best to get at least another battery.

Which one? Well, after having had my first third party battery fail last year, where my Patona swelled up in my X-E3 and I had to fiddle around to get it out, I think the safest way to go is with original batteries.

Sure, it was much cheaper than the original battery, so I can’t complain about its shorter life span. But going forward I will stick with the original.

3) Only recommended SD Cards (with difference over X-T4 recommended cards)

If, like me, you used an X-T4 and now upgraded to the Fujifilm X-T5, and you bought your SD-Cards based on the officially recommended cards list for the Fujifilm X-T4, then you have to be aware that there have been changes.

Some UHS-II cards recommended for the Fujifilm X-T4 (for example the Toshiba Exceria Pro) are now no longer recommended for the 40 megapixel Fujifilm X-T5. The updated list for X-T5 contains:

4) Good Bye Selfie Screen, Welcome Screen Protector

One of the cool things of my Fujifilm X-T4 is that I can flip the screen inwards and hence keep it nicely protected (and it gives it an ultimate retro touch, as it looks to be a camera with no LCD screen at all).

However, with the 3 way screen of the Fujifilm X-T5 that is no longer possible.

But don’t panic, the solution to this is cheap and efficient: buy a touch sensitive screen protector. I buy those usually at my local store, so they also apply it on my camera right on the spot.

5) Give it a Cool Touch

The Fujifilm X-T5 is a wonderful looking camera, but if you want to put the icing on the cake and make it perfect, you can get one of those little X custom hot shoe covers.

At the end of the day, the original batteries probably remain the best pick.

I have had great experience with third party batteries, but just until a few days ago.

In fact, I was using my lovely Fujifilm X-E3 with my so far favorite third party Patona battery, and when I tried to swap out batteries, the Patona did not slide out anymore. For some reason, it did swell, and I had to fiddle around to get it out. So far something like that never happened to me with any original Fujifilm battery. Maybe I will post a picture of that later on on my Instagram. But I think you got what I mean.

So, after years of great service, the Patona failed on me. And yet, I feel I can’t complain anyway, as the price is just so much more affordable, that I feel fine if it does not last as long as the original Fujifilm batteries.

New Fujifilm NP-70S Battery Registered – Not for X or GFX Series Cameras

Nokishita spotted the registration for a new NP-70S battery.

Fujifilm’s unreleased battery “NP-70S” has been registered with an overseas certification body. The nominal voltage is 3.6V and the capacity is 680mAh

It’s a refresh of the original NP-70 battery used on Finepix cameras.

Other batteries used on X and GFX cameras are:

  • Fujifilm NP-W235 (7.2V – 2200 mAh) – used on X-T4 and GFX100S
  • Fujifilm NP-W126(S) (7.2V – 1260 mAh) – used on all X-series cameras except for X-T4 and on X100F and X100V
  • Fujifilm NP-T125 (10.8V – 1230 mAh) – used on GFX100, GFX50S and GFX50R
  • Fujifilm NP-95 (3.6V – 1800 mAh) – used on X100 series cameras except X100F and X100V and X70/XF10
  • Fujifilm NP-45S (3.7V – 740 mAh) – used on various Finepix cameras
