Fujifilm GFX 50R vs Fujifilm GFX 50S, Hasselblad X1D, Fujifilm X-T3 and X-E3 Size Comparison

Fujifilm GFX 50S Vs. Fujifilm GFX 50R

Fujifilm GFX 50R

We just leaked the first accurate sketches of the Fujifilm GFX 50R.

Keep in mind that these are handmade sketches, so the proportions could be minimally off.

However, this is a rumor site, and we are here to have fun, so I matched the sketched Fujifilm GFX 50R mount with the one of the Fujifilm GFX 50S. I  consider this comparison 95%+ accurate.

I also compared the size of the Fujifilm GFX 50R with the one of the brand new Fujifilm X-T3, the Fujifilm X-E3 and the Hasselblad X1D.

Fujifilm GFX 50R Reality Check: About Impossible Dreams and Realistic Expectations

Fujifilm GFX 50R Reality Check

Here on FujiRumors, we shared the first Fujifilm GFX 50R rumors back in December 2017.

Since we shared the rumors, I have read lots of unrealistic expectations regarding this camera by some FR-readers. And while a few of you guys might have been mislead by incorrect rumors (not shared by FujiRumors), some others simply put too many expectations into a camera, the Fujifilm GFX 50R, which will not be a revolution over the Fujifilm GFX 50S (but you will really like it anyway ;) )

So I thought to set things right, and say a few things.

Why did Fujifilm made the Fujifilm GFX 50R?

Fujifilm GFX 50R Coming September 25 for Around $4,500: No Cooling Box, Dual SD-Card Slot, 2 Way Tilt Screen and More Specs

Fujifilm GFX 50R

The Fujifilm GFX 50R will be announced September 25th at 07:30 AM York time. That’s when Fujifilm has its press conference ahead of photokina.

Let’s start with the price.

I have it 100% confirmed by multiple trusted sources, that the Fujifilm GFX 50R will cost around $4,500. Forget the grain of salt… that’s a fact! ;)

The final price has not yet been set, but there won’t be huge variations from that “around $4,500” (the GFX 50S currently sells for $5,849 with a $650 discount).

And now the rest.

RUMORED BY FUJIRUMROS SOURCES

We already knew about the Fujifilm GFX 50R that:

And here is the new stuff. All trusted. No grain of salt needed.

  • 2 way tilt screen (and not 3 way, like GFX 50S or Fujifilm X-T3)
  • dual SD-card slot
  • button layout/look similar to X-E3 (joystick etc), with a few differences, such as the MCS switch on the back of the camera instead than on the front like X-E3.
  • no more “cooling box” (meaning the “brick” at the back of the LCD that the Fujifilm GFX 50S has)

Finally we will have the first rangefinder-styled Fujifilm with tilt screen :)

RUMORED BY CAMERABETA WEIBO (link here)

  • same button layout as the X-E3, but with a larger size
  • There is no ISO dial, only the shutter and exposure compensation dial
  • This GFX-50R has no OLED shoulder screen
  • equipped with a tilt screen, with a lever
  • coming with a new 40mm pancake lens.
  • the thickness will be less than 42mm
  • the weight is below 800g
  • the price is expected to be 3600 …
  • [TO THE SOURCE WHO CONTATCTS ME ANONYMOUSY: can we talk via email? Would be great. fujirumor@gmail.com]

Fujifilm GFX 50R Shipping in October – UPDATE

Fujifilm GFX 50R

According to the source (相机Beta), who 2 days ago leaked the first image of the Fujifilm GFX 50R, the Fujifilm GFX 50R will be released in October (meaning shipping, not announcement).

UPDATE: A Chinese reader told me that the word should be translated with “announced” and not “released (or shipped)”. Bad google translation apparently.

The Fujifilm GFX 50R will be an “affordable” rangefinder styled medium format camera. The final price has yet to be decided, but as we reported 2 days ago, just the 50 MP sensor used in the GFX costs $2,000 (same price also for the Hasselblad X1D). So my guess is that Fujifilm will have a hard time to sell it below $4,000.

Fujifilm GFX 50R: The 50 Megapixel Medium Format Sensor Costs $2,000

Fujifilm GFX 50R Sensor

Recently I was talking to sources, asking how moch the Fujifilm GFX 50R will cost.

I didn’t get an answer yet (no final price for the Fujifilm GFX 50R has been set yet), but I got to hear an interesting tidbit.

The 50 megapixel medium format sensor of the Fujifilm GFX alone costs $2,000!

This comes from trusted source, hence you don’t need to take any grain of salt.

With that said, it seems clear to me that it will be hard for Fujifilm to price the Fujifilm GFX 50R below $4,000, since you have to build also an entire camera around that $2,000 sensor and ship it all over the world, pay the labor cost etc.

HOT!!! Fujifilm GFX 50R First Image Leaked?

Fujifilm GFX 50 R

Could this be the first real life image of the Fujifilm GFX 50 R? (thanks for sharing)

If yes, then here is what we can say:

  • rangefinder style camera
  • EVF only
  • diopter adjustment like on X-Pro2 and not on X-E3
  • makes a compact impression
  • in this image, there is probably a flash trigger attached to the hot shoe

We remind you that the Fujifilm GFX 50 R will be launched around photokina (which takes place between 26 to 29 September). It will be rangefinder styled medium format camera and if this image is real, with EVF only, hence more similar to the Fujifilm X-E3 than to the Fujifilm X-Pro3.

The final Fujifilm GFX 50 R price has not yet been set, I guess also because Fujifilm wants to see at what price tag the Full Frame Canon EOS R is. But in any case it will be significantly less than Fujiilm GFX 50S

But already now I feel pretty confident to claim, that the Fujiflm GFX 50R will look much better than the Fujifilm GFX 50S.

Nikon Z vs. Fujifilm X-H1 and GFX 50S Size & Ergonomics Compared

Nikon Z Vs. Fujifilm

Nikoneye.com has shared a bunch of size comparison between the Nikon Z and other mirrorless cameras from Fujifilm, Sony, Panasonic and Olympus. You can see the results down below.

Above you can see a comparison of the ergonomics between the Fujifilm X-H1 and the Nikon Z. The Nikon Z has no clickable rear command dial (which can be handy if you need to change settings and create less shake as possible), but a customizable top dial (like on X-T100).

Overall the back of the Nikon Z has more buttons than the X-H1. The Fujifilm X-H1 makes a more cleaned up impression to me and there seems to be more space for your hands without risking to press accidentaly some buttons.

On the top, both feature a secondary LCD screen. The Nikon Z has a PSAM dial and a customizable dial, whereas the Fujifilm X-H1 has ISO dial, Shutter dial and 2 sub dials for metering modes and drive settings.

The flexibility of the X system allows it to leave the shutter dial on T or the ISO dial at A, and then use the clickable command dials to change your settings.

With that said, it’s hard/impossible to make any conclusions, if you didn’t try a camera in your hands.

The Astonishing Efficiency of the Godox/Flashpoint AC Adapter – by Fujifilm GFX 50S Shooter Markus Klinko

guest post & all images by Markus Klinko

When I initially began to integrate Flashpoint XPLOR H1200 into my workflow, HSS, portability and the long lasting lithium batteries were key factors in my decision to switch from Broncolor to Flashpoint/Godox.

With the release of the 600 PRO earlier this year, I began to add more units, enough to be able to light for any conceivable studio or location requirements. I may use as many as 20 lights for a setup, or just one, but for sure I like to always have a good number of spares available.

On a recent shoot with singer/actress Becky G for the cover of GALORE magazine, and another shoot for VOGUE, I needed to have various set ups ready at once. I used only a single 600 PRO inside a modified BRONCOLOR FLOOTER S for a series of dramatic sky shots in HSS mode, and also a late afternoon pool shot, but I needed 20 units to light a series of colorful, 2000s pop inspired studio shots.
