It’s been a while that Fujifilm hasn’t updated its complete Fujifilm X series guide. But given the massive start Fujifilm had in 2020, with lots of new products released, it was high time for a refresh.
A few days ago, Fujifilm has uploaded a fresh new complete X series guide, and it includes all the latest and greatest Fujifilm gear:
Since this post is about shutter sound, I would like to introduce it with the words of Tiziano Terzani:
“My life changed on the 30th of April 1975 [Note: last day of the Vietnam War], because on that day – when Americans flew from the roofs of Saigon – a skilled Vietnamese thief was able to steal a Leica M3 of an American. I met him at the market of Saigon a few days later and bought that camera. Wonderful. Simple. For 100 Dollar! It became the camera of my life. […]
The nice thing of that camera is, that it is very easy to load the film, that’s very important. […] You keep it around your neck, turn, open, insert film, close and – trum-pum! It’s ready to use. Easy. And once you selected shutter speed, aperture, black & white, 400 ASA, you take the picture. You simply cannot do anything wrong!
And then there was an almost erotic aspect, I mean, you put this camera for example at 1/125 and when you take the picture it makes a “cloc-cloc” that is such a joy to hear!”
“Cloc-cloc” or “click-click” or “flap-flap“. Whatever the sound is, I agree with Tiziano that pressing the shutter button and hear it sealing the moment is a joy.
And now, after this introduction, let’s see how the shutter sound of the Fujifilm X series evolved over the years, thanks to a video by nyphotog2006 you can see below.
Cultural Sidenote: I love the books of Tiziano Terzani, and highly recommend you to read them. They also made a movie out of one of his books, it’s called “The End is my Beginning“. If you have some spare time, it’s worth to watch it. The actor playing Tiziano is Bruno Ganz, an absolute gigantic actor, who played iconic roles in film history, like the Hitler in Downfall and Wings of Desire of Wim Wenders.
According to our rumors, the Fujifilm X-T4 will introduce a new film simulation called “bleach bypass“.
But Elio could not wait for that one, and tried to create his own bleach bypass film simulation by fine tuning Classic Chrome film simulation on his Fujifilm X-T2 already back in 2018!
it starts with the fantastic Classic Chrome simulation to take advantage of its contrast and soft colors.
Bleach bypass is a technique from traditional film industry, characterized by hard contrast and low saturation. One movie that uses bleach bypass extensively is Saving Private Ryan.
Now, how close Elio’s Bleach Bypass version will be to the real and final new bleach bypass film simulation introduced in the Fujifilm X-T4, we will only know on February 25/26, when the Fujifilm X-T4 will be announced.
You can read all the settings and see the results at elio.blog.
fully articulating flippy…essentially a Panasonic S1H
expect a T4 about 1/3 of an inch thicker, and about 5-6oz heavier
On a good note expect 6k60 and 10bit internal
anamorphic ratio
release end of 2020
X-H line most likely canceled
I tell you, it’s hard to get all rumors right all the time, especially long term rumors. Sometimes you follow the right hint, but the devil is in the details.
And today, we have to correct such a detail.
According to our trusted sources, the Fujifilm X-T4 will not have the Panasonic S1H flippy screen, but it will use the same mechanism of the Fujifilm X-T200 and Fujifilm X-A7. You can see the difference between the two screens in this article, where you can also vote on which tilt screen design you prefer.
And since J. list has spread like fire on the internet, today on FujiRumors we would like to bring some order in the chaos.
Hence, here is what our sources can confirm, what they say is wrong, and what none of our sources could confirm until now.
X-T4 with IBIS – CORRECT however, this comes unsurprisingly, as Fujifilm repeatedly said they will make IBIS smaller and fit it in smaller cameras
fully articulating flippy – CORRECT…essentially a Panasonic S1H – WRONG – it will have Fujifilm X-T200 mechanism
expect a T4 about 1/3 of an inch thicker, and about 5-6oz heavier – UNCONFIRMED
On a good note expect 6k60 and 10bit internal – WRONG – read this rumor
anamorphic ratio – UNCONFIRMED
release end of 2020 – WRONG – you can see date and time of Fujifilm X-T4 announcement in this article
