Fujinon GF17-30mmF4, GF17-35mmF4 and GF17-35mmF4-5.6 Patents Spotted

Patents for the Fujinon GF 17-30mm f/4, Fujinon GF 17-35mm f/4 and Fujinon GF 17-35mm f/4.5.6 have now been spotted by the Japanese website asobinet.

We remind fellow FR-readers that 100% of the patents ever shared on FujiRumors in 11+ years of blogging never saw the light of the day.

Also, we now have the stunning Fujinon GF20-35mmF4, which kind of makes all these patented GF lenses redundant.

Sigma 50-140mm F2.8 for Mirrorless APS-C Patent Found

Sigma 50-140mm f/2.8 DC DN

The patent for the Sigma 50-140mm f/2.8 APS-C mirrorless lens has been found.

This would be the first telephoto DC DN (APS-C) lens from Sigma and it would go to compete with one of Fujifilm’s best lenses, the Fujinon XF 50-140mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR.

  •  Application: Sigma Co., Ltd.
    Public number: P2023090116
    Application number: P 2021204904
    Release date: 2023-06-29
    Name of invention: Imaging optics
  • [Issue] Provides a small imaging optics with a small open F value in the entire zoom range.
  • Mirrorless cameras have a smaller housing due to the abolition of mirrors, so it is required to miniaturize the imaging optics accordingly. In addition, large aperture zoom lenses with small open F values are required throughout the zoom range.
  • In Patent Document 1, a positive read type zoom lens with an open F value of about 2.8, which is bright and the lens group on the object side is fixed to the image surface at the time of variable doubling is disclosed. The convenience and robustness are high due to the fact that the optical total length does not change, but there is a problem that the size of the imaging optical system is large.
  • In Patent Document 2, a positive read zoom lens with a bright open F value of about 2.8 and a shortened optical total length at the wide angle end is disclosed. However, there are many lenses with large diameters that move when multiplying on the image side rather than the opening aperture, so the mechanism required for the transformation is larger and the diameter size of the lens barrel is larger.
  • This invention is made in light of this situation, and aims to provide a small imaging optics with a small open F value throughout the zoom range.
  • Example 1 (for 50-140mm F2.8 APS-C)
    Zoom ratio 2.70
    Wide angle intermediate telephoto
    Focal length 50.50 85.38 136.50
    F number 2.92 2.92 2.92
    Total angle of view 30.62 18.00 11.40
    Statue height 14.20 14.20 14.20
    Lens total length 125.00 137.38 145.00

Fujinon GF28-100mm F4 and XF18-120mm F4 Patents Found

Two more patents have been spotted by asobinet.

One is the patent for the already release Fujinon XF18-120mm f/4 LM PZ WR and the other is for a Fujinon GF28-100mm f/4.

We remind fellow FR-readers that 100% of the patents ever shared on FujiRumors in 11+ years of blogging never saw the light of the day.

The only patents that were accurate were the ones spotted after something has already been released.

Fujifilm Patents Fujinon XF 200-600mm F5.6-8 and XF 100-600mm F5.6-6.3

If you believe in mythological entities like Unicorns and Leprechauns, then I don’t want to ruin your joy in believing also in the fabulous world of Fujifilm patents and I invite you not to read beyond the headline (which many don’t do anyway) and stop reading this article right now.

But for the brave guys, who will continue to read and are hungry for the truth, here it is:

  1. After 11+ years of blogging and hundreds of patents shared, I have yet to see one single patent that later on turned out into a real product
  2. it’s curious that we have tons of patents shared, but we never get to see patents of real upcoming products
  3. the most accurate patents I have seen are the ones that show variations of already existing product

Well, today we are in category Nr.3, with a couple of patents that very likely show variations of the existing Fujinon XF150-600mmF5.6-8 spotted by Asobinet. You can find them down below.

One of the variations is 6.3 at the long end. But of course this would have made the whole lens bigger and more expensive. And given the success the Fujinon XF150-600mmF5.6-8 experienced (3rd best selling lens of 2022 on FujiRumors), Fujifilm was probably right to contain size and cost by making it f/8 at the long end.

Fujifilm Patents (Full Frame) Fujinon 27-184mmF3.5-5.7 and 26-175mmF3.5-5.8

Asobinet spotted new Fujifilm patents.

Asobinet also notes that looking at the angle of view, these look like zoom lenses for full frame, but since Fujifilm has no Full Frame camera, there is no possibility for such zoom lenses to ever become real.

They also note that the lens configuration has a lot in common with the Fujinon XF18-135mmF3.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR (although the rear group is completely different) and maybe this could be a patent for an eventual replacement.

FujiRumors says: whenever you see a patent, forget about it. In 99,9999% of the cases they never become real products. At least in 11 years of blogging on FujiRumors and hundreds of patents shared, I still have to find the one patent that later on became a real product.

Fujinon XF 500mmF8 OIS Patent Found

Fujifilm has filed a patent for a Fujinon XF500mm f/8 OIS lens.

The f/8 aperture would make it a very portable long telephoto option similar to what Canon offers with their Canon RF 800mm F11 IS STM and Canon RF 600mm f/11 IS STM.

What I know is that the FujiRumors community wishes mostly for a Fujinon XF 400mm f/4 lens. But feel free to let us know what you’d think about an eventual Fujinon XF500mm f/8.

Fujinon XF7mm F4, XF8mm F3.5, XF9mm F2.8 and XF10mm F2.8 Patents Found

Back at the X Summit in May, Fujifilm announced the Fujinon XF 8mm f/3.5.

FujiRumors already compared the XF8mmF3.5 in size to other Fujinon lenses here.

It is no surprise that during the development for this lens Fujifilm made several versions of it, and those versions now appeared as patents.

  • XF7mm F4
  • XF8mm F3.5
  • XF9mm F2.8
  • XF10mm F2.8

Looks like Fujifilm went for the golden middle: not the widest nor the longest, not the slowest nor the fastest: hence, XF 8mmF3.5. A good decision if you ask me, but you are free to tell us your opinion in the comments.

Fujifilm Patents Fujinon XF 300mmF2.8 OIS, XF 400mmF4 OIS, XF 600mmF6 OIS (APS-C) and Fujinon GF 300mmF2.8 OIS (Medium Format)

Do you remember when Fujifilm patented the Fujinon XF300mm f/4 and XF500mm f/5.6 a couple of years ago?

And despite my warnings telling you not to expect such lenses soon (if ever), there are still a good amount of people who believe these patents are a strong indication for that gear to come soon.

So I will never be tired to make disclaimers: in 99,999% of the cases those patents never see the light of the day in a real product.

In fact, in over a decade of covering patents here on FujiRumors, I have seen 1 patent out of hundreds become real… and that patent was actually found only after Fujifilm released that gear.

Does this mean that covering patents is useless?

Yes… if you see it from the point of view of gear to come in future. You better look at our rumors for that purpose.

Any yet, these patents are a nice way to let us discuss on what Fujifilm should do in future and if such lenses would be appreciated among the Fujifilm community.

So down below are one by one all the latest patents.

Fujinon XF33mm f/1.2 Patent Spotted

Once upon a time, Fujifilm planed to make a Fujinon XF33mmF1.0, which they then scraped in favor of the smaller Fujinon XF50mm F1.0.

What we got instead, is the highly praised Fujinon XF33mmF1.4.

But it looks like at some point Fujifilm also played with the idea to make a Fujinon XF33mmF1.2, as such a patent has now been surfaced in Japanese language (down below the translated version) at IP force and found by Digicame-info.

I doubt Fujifilm will now also give us a Fujinon XF33mmF1.2, but let us know in the comments if you’d want one.
