Fujinon XC/XF 30mm F3.5 Patent Found, but….

The patent for a Fujinon XF35mm f/3.5 or XF35mm f/3.5 has been spotted by Asobinet. Down below the details (google translated):

As of November 1, 2021, Fujifilm’s patent application has been published. It includes some small, lightweight standard single focus examples that will be the “35mm F3.5” for APS-C mirrorless cameras.

  • [Publication date] November 1, 2021
  • INDUSTRIAL APPLICABILITY: Imaging lens and imaging device
  • [Application date] April 23, 2020
  • [Name or name] FUJIFILM Corporation
  • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup lens which is compactly configured, has good optical performance, and is advantageous for speeding up focusing, and an image pickup device provided with the image pickup lens.

Some might think it is the patent for the GF30mm f/3.5, but Asobinet remarks how considering the angle of view this should be an APS-C lens.

  • Focal length: 30.85
  • F value: 3.51
  • Angle of view: 47.8

In roughly that range, Fujifilm already offers:

Asobinet remarks: “Considering the filing time, it may have been a proposal that was being considered in the process of commercializing the ” XF27mmF2.8 R WR “.

As always, keep in mind that 99,9999% of the patents we report about will never see the light of the day. Just search for “patent” on FujiRumors, and look at all the stuff that has been spotted in 10 years of blogging and never became a real product at the end.

Fujifilm Foldable Phone Patent Spotted

Will there be, one day, maybe a Fujifilm smartphone?

I don’t know yet, but a recent patent spotted by LetsGoDigital (via Petapixel) is suggesting that Fujifilm is investigating this possibility. Down below a few renderings made by LetsGoDigital based on the patents.

Interesting… but I’d get one only if it run iOS ;). Although, if it would have an X-Trans sensor, maybe… ;)

Fujinon GF30mmF4.5 and GF35mm F4 Patents Spotted

New Fujifilm patents for the following Fujinon G mount lenses have been spotted:

  • Fujinon GF30mmF4.5
  • Fujinon GF35mmF4

These are probably just preliminary patents to what at the end became the stellar Fujinon GF 30mm f/3.5 R WR.

You know what I think about patents. Don’t take them too seriously, as 99,99% of those will never see the light of the day.

Fujinon Patents for XF 90mm F1.6 and XF 77mm F1.6 Spotted

The Japanese website asobinet spotted a couple of Fujifilm patents, but some of them are old and we shared them back in 2020 already.

Some belong to lenses we already got or that Fujifilm planed at some point but canceled:

The new ones are the following:

  • Fujinon XF 90mm F1.6
  • Fujinon XF 77mm F1.6

You know what I think about patents.

Recently a patent has been spotted about an XF35mmF1.4 MKII, which won’t come. There was the patent about the XF16-55mmF2.8 OIS, which also won’t come. Back in March 2020 we reported about two Fujifilm patents showing a Fujinon XF300mmF4 and Fujinon XF500mmF5.6. But also here we told you not to expect any of these lenses in the near future.

And then there were the patents about… well, you got the point!

So, FujiRumors is here to advice you to take every patent with a grain of salt. 99% of those never see the light of the day.

Fujinon XF 18-200mm F3.5-6.5 Patent Spotted in 2014 gets Patent Revival in 2021

A patent has been spotted for a Fujinon XF 18-200mm F3.5-6.5. Now, I remember that a patent about a Fujinon18-200mm F3.5-6.5 has been spotted also back in 2014, and the optical design is similar indeed.

From the patent details we see that this lens has a higher optical magnification than the XF16-80mm F4 and the XF18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 and covers the angle of view equivalent to “25.5-300mm” in full size. The patent does not mention OIS.

But…

New Fujifilm Patent Shows Fujinon XF35mmF1.4 MK II

A new Fujifilm patent published today shows an XF35mmF1.4 with a different optical design compared to the original Fujinon XF35mmF1.4, although the base lens configuration is similar.

Hence, it looks like a XF35mmF1.4 MK II lens.

Also the size seems to be a bit larger compared to the original 35mmF1.4, maybe to further improve optical quality. The size increase might also indicate a better AF motor and weather resistant design.

Here are the details of the patent:

Fujifilm Patent: 48mm F1.2 Lens for Mirrorless Camera with 1 inch-type Sensor

A patent has been spotted of a 48mm f/1.2 lens for mirrorless cameras with 1 inch-type sensor at j-platpat.inpit.go.jp here via hi-lows-note.

FUJIFILM filed a patent describing lenses for short wave infrared cameras with 1″-type sensor.

Fujifilm was once very active in the compact camera segment, with cameras like the Fujifilm XF1 but especially the Fujifilm X10, X20 and X30 series as well as the Fujifilm XQ1 and XQ2.

All these cameras featured a 2/3 sensor (in some cases an excellent 2/3 X-Trans sensor).

However, Fuji’s 2/3″ sensor camera line didn’t get the success it deserved and its last model, the X30, got discontinued in 2016. The market prefered 1″ sensor compact cameras like the Sony RX100 series.

But both, the 2/3″ as well as 1″ sensor compact camera market is basically dead now, due to smartphone cameras getting better.

A curious fact?

Fujifilm used to make its own sensors in the past, but then sold their sensor business to Toshiba. But guess who came in 2015 and bought the sensor business from Toshiba? You got, it was Sony back in 2015!

I wonder if somebody at Fujifilm regrets that decision today.

Fujifilm X100 with 20mmF2 and 21mmF2 Lens Patent Spotted

As you know, the Fujifilm X100V features a redesigned 23mmF2 lens, by adding a second aspherical element in oder to increase corner sharpness and image quality at close focusing distances at wide apertures.

Now the patent for this new lens has been spotted.

But interestingly, that same patent also includes examples of a “20mm F2” and “21mm F2” lens.

  • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup lens having a small size, high resolution, a small F number, and high performance, and an image pickup device provided with the image pickup lens.

Here are the variations of this lens as found in the patent as spotted by the Japanese site asobinet.

I find the 23mm focal length perfect for the X100 line, but if Fujifilm is really looking into slightly wider options, then I’d go with an 18mm lens, like the Ricoh GR cameras or the Fujifilm X70 and XF10.

Fujifilm Full Frame Mirrorless 28-100mm F2.8 and 28-110mm F2.8 Patented – UPDATED

Fujifilm has patented the following lenses for full frame mirrorless cameras.

My guess: probably some cine-lenses for other mounts.

UPDATE: FR-reader Mistral75 says:

This patent is related to the Fujinon Premista 28-100mm T/2,9.

Look at the image circle diameter of the examples in the patent: 46.3mm. A bit more than the diagonal of a regular 24×36 sensor (43.3mm), 46.3mm is the diagonal of the 40.96mm x 21.60mm 8K RED Monstro VistaVision sensor used by the RED Weapon Monstro and Panavision Millenium DXL cinema cameras.
