Fujinon XF Wildlife Photography Lenses Needed, Base ISO 100, Firmware Wishes and More – FR-Readers Wishlist Corner

Here is another roundup of wishlist shared by the FR-community to me via email at fujirumor@gmail.com.

Previous Wishlist Episodes:

Because it touches the wish expressed by Michel, Willy and Kenneth, I invite you to check out also our big Fujinon XF wildlife photography survey and other long telephoto primes articles we have previously shared (list below).

Overall, there seems to be a strong wish by the FR-community for longer primes.

But we know the stellar Fujinon XF200mm f/2.0 did not sell well, and hence it’s obvious that Fujifilm is now a bit reluctant to invest further in long lenses.

But keep in mind, the XF200mmF2.0 comes with a 1.4x teleconverter designed specifically for this lens, which transforms the XF200mmF2 lens basically in a 280mmF2.8 lens. So, with 1 single lens, here is what you get:

  • XF 200mmF2.0 = full frame 280mmF2.8 (f/2.8 DOF equivalent)
  • XF 280mmF2.8 = full frame 420mmF4.2 (f/4.2 DOF equivalent)

If you want to, you can check out our previous “long telephoto primes” related articles.

I also got many wishes regarding future cameras, but since this roundup is already hefty enough, I will share the “camera-wishlist” at a later point.

Cambo ACTAR 19mm Shipping in October also for Fujifilm GFX

When it comes to lens selection, the Fujifilm GFX is expanding at a rate of 2/3 lenses a year, delivering some of industries best lenses.

But so far, Fujifilm has not yet released a tilt-shift lens.

This is even more strange, as back in February 2019 Fujifilm mangers asked us which lenses we would like for the GFX system, and all the options they gave us, was to vote on tilt-shift lenses (see the official Fujifilm survey here).

Now, as you know, Cambo is already offering since a few years not the popular Cambo ACTUS G also for Fujifilm GFX.

But very soon Cambo will also announce the brand Cambo ACTAR 19mm lens, which uses the optical elements of the Nikkor 19mm, which is wide enough to cover the 44×33 medium format GFX sensor and still offers 5 mm of shift.

Delivery will start in October.

Hungry for Fujifilm X-H2, Visions for X-T5, Hopes for X80, Modular Fujifilm GFX, Monochrome and More – FR Readers Wishlist Corner

Fujifilm Wishlist Corner

In response to the terrific response to our first FR-readers wishlist corner article and the massive feedback I have received via email by fellow Fuji X/GFX shooters, here is the second episode of this series.

This series is all about your wishes about future Fujifilm cameras, lenses, firmware features and whatever you desire to see in Fuji’s future.

As I did receive tons of emails last time, I will focus this FR-readers wishlist corner mainly on cameras… lenses and firmware will follow at a later point.

The Hunger for X-H2

It’s interesting to note that most of the wishes gravitate around the Fujifilm X-H2, proving that there is a huge “hunger” for a Fujifilm X-H1 successor.

The (now discontinued) Fujifilm X-H1 was initially a disaster in terms of sales. However, X-H1 sales revived later on thanks to terrific deals that gave it a sales-glory-moment.

The reason for the overall failure of the Fujifilm X-H1 was not its concept, but its timing: a few months later the Fujifilm X-T3 followed with new sensor and processor. I never understood this move by Fujifilm.

And yet, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the Fujifilm X-H1, which, I remind you, snapped the top winning image at the World Press Photo awards.

I am strongly convinced that with the Fujifilm X-H2, Fuji is sitting on a potentially big winner.

Many X shooters would like a Fujifilm X-H2 right now, but as FujiRumors always told you, you have to be patient. Fujifilm is not going to repeat the errors made in the past. When the Fujifilm X-H2 will hit the market, it will be the right moment, have the right features and give the X-H line the position it deserves: right on the top of the high end X series line-up!

What’s Next?

Do you have wishes about the Fujifilm future, too? Well, then write me at fujirumor@gmail.com.

Have a wonderful weekend,
Patrick

Global Shutter: 120+ MP for Fujifilm GFX120 and 31 MP for Fujifilm X-H2?

the modular Fujifilm GFX - could a global shutter make it become real? - VIDEO BELOW
the modular Fujifilm GFX – could a global shutter make it become real? – VIDEO BELOW

We are talking since a long time, about the global shutter revolution coming to photography, and even Fujifilm itself talked about it, for example:

Inspired by an email of a reader, I went back to check which kind of global shutter sensors Sony has currently to offer.

Worth to mention and possibly of interest for Fujifilm shooters, are the following two:

  • IMX342LQA-C: 31.49 MP APS-C global shutter sensor and max. 35.4 fps – already reported here
  • IMX661LQA-C: 127 MP Type 3.6″ global shutter sensor and max. 15 fps

Clarifications & Reminders

Now, we know that the Fujifilm X-T4 and the Fujifilm GFX100 use the same sensor, just the one in the GFX100 is about 4 times bigger, hence it has 4 times the megapixel.

We also know that the current Fujifilm GFX sensor is a type 3.4″, hence slightly different than the IMX661LQA-C type 3.6″ listed above.

If we would take the 31 MP APS-C global shutter sensor and make a 3.4″ type of it, we would end up with about 123 megapixel on medium format Fujifilm GFX.

And as a reminder, Sony also released a 43 megapixel stacked APS-C sensor. The same sensor used on the GFX system would result in a 162 MP sensor.

Speculations: Fujifilm GFX120 and Fujifilm X-H2?

New Fujifilm Financial Results: X-T4/X100V Sales Increasing Despite Severe Market Challenges, but Imaging Solution Down 33%

Fujifilm has just published the financial results for the first quarter of this fiscal year (1 April 2020 to 30 June 2020).

Here is what Fujifilm writes in its report about the imaging solution:

Imaging Solutions

In the Imaging Solutions segment, consolidated revenue amounted to ¥49.8 billion (down 33.2% from the same period of the previous fiscal year). The sales of products and services in general decreased due to impacts of stay-at-home orders, business shutdowns including temporary closure of retailers, and self-restraintor cancellation of events worldwide under the spread of COVID-19 pandemic. Consolidated operating loss amounted to ¥3.0 billion. […]

In the electronic imaging field of the optical device and electronic imaging business, temporary closure of retailers and less opportunities to take photos due to the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in a decline in revenue. The sales of FUJIFILM X100V, a high-end model of compact digital camera launched in February 2020 and FUJIFILM X-T4, a mirrorless digital camera highly known for its high-speed AF and high video performance, launched in April 2020, are steadily increasing, despite the digital camera industry is facing severe challenges. We will continue providing value-added products and revitalizing the market, along with sharing the joy of taking photos.

In the optical device field, revenue decreased, reflecting a decline in demand for broadcast and cinema lenses, as well as reduced sales in vehicle-mounted lenses due to stagnation in automotive industry. With an aim to accelerate business growth, we are expanding business fields by developing and launching innovative products that satisfy changing needs of the market, such as ultra-short throw projectors and long throw security cameras.
