Irix is teasing a new lens coming for the Fujifilm GFX system in January (as if January wasn’t already hot enough ;) ).
Now, you might remember how back in July 2020 I told you about a very fast lens coming for the Fujifilm GFX system. At that time I was able to give you the following details.
It looks like this could be the IRIX lens coming soon :). We have two images of the lens shared here. Feel free to check them out.

Recently we checked out how many Fujinon X/GFX lenses Fujifilm usually released in the last few years, and we saw, that in 2021 we could still get up to 3 lenses that have not yet been announced by Fujifilm or put in any roadmap (if Fujifilm keeps the same pace of the last few years).
So, there is room for surprises.
Now it’s your time to tell us your top wish… but beware, wish for lenses that you would also be ready to pay for ;).

It’s that time of the year, when blogs and youtube channels declare their best gear of the year.
We have already shared what DPReviewTV thinks is best here and what DPReview blog thinks is best.
Now it’s time for a roundup what all others consider their top and flop gear 2020.
The Fujifilm X-T4 is the best camera 2020 winner for CineD, Techradar, ePhotozine and also according to the German Stiftung Warentest, which is the go-to source for independent and competent reviews in Germany.
One prominent exception: Tony Northrup says the X-T4 the biggest disappointment of 2020. Why? You’ll find his video below. He might not like the X-T4, but he appreciates the X-S10, which Tony delcars the best camera below $1,000.
The Fujinon XF 50mm f/1.0 R WR is second best for Techradar and BH Explora.

DPReview awarded the best gear of 2020.
Lots of what they say makes sense, but I don’t really agree with everything. For example, the Fujifilm X-T4 is second in the mid-range ranking behind the Canon R6, which costs $800 more. For me, the Fujifilm X-T4 is so much better value for money.
Worth to notice, Canon grabs some of the most prestigious top spots, which in the past were usually in solid Sony hands.
And to me totally unsurprising: the little and affordable Fujifilm X-S10 is not only the best entry level camera, but it also grabs the second spot as overall top product 2020.
I am saying it since I’ve shared the first rumors: Fujifilm is doing lots of things right with the X-S10. If you don’t need weather sealing or 2 SD card slots, it’s by far the best value for money camera you can buy.
Last but not least the glorious Fujifilm X100V, frankly without any competition in the fixed lens compact camera segment.
What I do not get is the lack of any GFX lens. Not only the Fujinon GF30mm f/3.5 or Fujinon GF45-100mmF/4 have not been awarded, but they did not even enter the shortlist of candidates.
In my opinion the GF lenses would have highly deserved a top spot. But I guess the GFX system is not really on DPR’s radar due to rather limited market share, and it’s easier to award gear that is also a big hit at the box office.
Let’s go through the list.
The latest Fujifilm financial results for the 2nd quarter 2021 (1 July 2020 to 30 September 2020) have been released.
Of course COVID-19 had a terrific impact, but there are some signs of recovery and hope.
First of all, after a couple of rather negative reports in the past, Instax seems to be growing strong again, which is, as we know, the real money machine of the imaging division.
But also sales of the Fujifilm X-T4 and X100V were “brisk” and there is a recovery trend in the when it comes to digital camera sales.
And yet, overall the numbers are still negative due to COVID-19, but Fujifilm writes:
Operating income was down, but if COVID-19 impacts are excluded, the segment secured income of a similar level to last year

In the Imaging Solutions segment, consolidated revenue amounted to ¥113.9 billion (down 26.1% from the same period of the previous fiscal year). Sales of products and services in general decreased due to the impacts of stay-at-home orders, temporary closure of retailers, and a variety of events not being held, or being cancelled, in many cities worldwide due to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Consolidated operating loss amounted to ¥2.1 billion.
[…]In the electronic imaging field of the optical device and electronic imaging business, temporary closure of retailers and fewer opportunities to take photos due to the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in a decline in revenue. The digital camera market as a whole faced severe challenges and overall demand declined far below the previous year’s level. Nonetheless, sales increased steadily for FUJIFILM X100V, a high-end, compact digital camera launched in February 2020, and FUJIFILM X-T4, a mirrorless digital camera highly regarded for its high-speed AF and advanced video performance, launched in April 2020. In July 2020 we launched the FUJINON Lens GF30mmF3.5 R WR as a new interchangeable lens for the GFXSeries, providing a compact wide-angle prime lens that delivers ultra-high resolution. Then, in September 2020, we launched a new addition to our lineup of interchangeable lenses for the X Series in the form of the FUJINON Lens XF50mmF1.0 R WR, a large-diameter mid-telephoto prime lens, thereby enhancing the appeal of our products as systems through a generous lineup of lenses. Going forward, we will continue providing value-added products and revitalizing the market, along with sharing the joy of taking photos.
In the optical device field, revenue decreased, reflecting reduced sales of broadcast and cinema lenses due to cancellation of sports events, and suspended filming of television dramas and movies, as well as reduced sales of vehicle-mounted lenses due to lower demand in the automotive industry worldwide. Demand for lenses for security purposes held firm, and revenue for the second quarter was higher than the same period of the previous fiscal year. Aiming to achieve business growth in this field, we are expanding our business domains and developing innovative products that satisfy the diverse needs of the market, including developing and launching ultra-short-throw projectors and long-throw security cameras, and developing new multispectral camera systems.

As we reported already back in back in March here that Laowa will launch a new Laowa 15mm f/4.5 Zero-D shift lens.
Now the lens has been officially announced. It works also on Fujfilm GFX with the ability to shift ± 8mm with no vignetting. Keep in mind you’ll need an adapter to make it work on the GFX.
