Sigma CEO: “Lenses for Fujifilm? We Are Now Thinking About How We Can Satisfy Fujifilm Customers”

In all these years, the Sigma CEO Kazuto Yamaki-san has explained that they wanted to make X mount lenses, but they can’t, as Fujifilm protected its mount by not disclosing the protocols.

Well, Fujifilm finally understood that it was a massive mistake, and in 2020 they opened their mount.

And now, after almost a year of teasers, the Sigma CEO finally made a statement that can make Fujifilm Shooters optimistic. In fact, in an interview with CineD, he said:

We are aware of the demand for Sigma lenses for Fujifilm cameras. We are now thinking about how we can satisfy Fujifilm customers

In my ears this sounds like surely lenses will come, but Sigma is thinking about which lenses Fujifilm shooters could really want and hence satisfy them. And if my sources are correct, the decision has already been done, as the first Sigma AF X mount lenses should be announced in 2021.

And here are some other key points of the interview:

  • Sigma was founded 60 years ago by the father of the current CEO
  • The current CEO does not want to make Sigma as big as possible. He is more hungry for quality. So his focus is on quality products
  • Sigma always tries to make lenses as small as possible, but so far they don’t offer pancake lenses
  • Sigma still can’t find a way to make pancake lenses with acceptable quality [Note: This is why i LOVE my Fujinon XF27mm f/2.8 R WR, as it is an incredibly good lens for being that small. Trust me guys, it’s optically amazing and ultra compact. It lives glued on my X-E3.]
  • Sigma does not stop exploring on how to achieve good quality pancake lenses
  • it’s easier to make a perfect lens, than a lens with character [Note: which is why I LOVE my good old XF35mmF1.4 Rsee it in action here in Barcelona]

You Voted: These are Your Most Wanted Sigma (and Tamron) lenses for Fujifilm

  1. Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM
  2. Sigma 50-100mm f/1.8 DC HSM
  3. Sigma 56mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary
  4. Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary
  5. Sigma 35mm f/1.2 DG DN Art
  6. Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM
  7. Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM
  8. Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary
  9. Sigma 500mm f/4 DG OS HSM
  10. Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art

One more thing:

Do you remember when back in 2018 our sources told us that Sigma is waiting for Fujifilm camera sales to increase by 20% before they making any lenses for the Fujifilm system? Well, it looks like Fujifilm was able to achieve that goal. And now Sigma is even more motivated to make money with us. ;)

Sigma Teases a “Variety of Lenses for Fujifilm X Mount Coming This Year”

I don’t know you, but I love teasers.

And yet, after almost a year of constant teasers, Sigma could also stop it and announce them already.

What are we talking about?

Well, of Fujifilm X mount autofocus lenses from Sigma.

Anyway, the latest teaser published by Sigma seems to indicate that our wait should soon be over. Here is what Sigma writes:

Stay tuned as I’m sure a variety of X mount are on the horizon in the near future.

Sigma also said:

We hope to see some X mount releases at some point this year.

I don’t know what to tell you guys. At this point I’ll just say I believe it when I see it!

And yet, I can’t stop being cautiously optimistic about it.

TTArtisan 40mm f/2.8 Macro Reviews

The TTArtisan 40mm f/2.8 Macro has just been released at a very competitive price.

With such a low price tag, it’s hard to even think it won’t be worth the money. And yet it’s better to check out some reviews before making any buying decision.

Fujifilm Gear 2021 In Stock Check (and it Doesn’t Look All That Good)

Fujifilm has definitely not been lazy and has announced tons of gear in 2021.

However, most of it is hard to find.

I was extremely lucky, as I grabbed the last available XF27mmF2.8 R WR at my local store on the first day the lockdown ended and I could finally leave my micro-village and drive to the store in the city nearby. And for the Fujifilm GFX100S I had to wait “only” 5 months.

But how does the situation look like now? Down below the in stock check of all the gear announced in 2021.

GFX100S

Adorama has a few samples in stock. No other store listed below has the GFX100S available. The store Moment expect availability on October 15.

GF80mmF1.7

A limited number of Fuji’s latest speed monster is available at AmazonUS here. The lens is in stock also at Focuscamera. The Fujinon GF80mmF1.7 is expected to be in stock in 2-4 weeks at BHphoto. Adorama just says “coming soon”. Moment expects it for October 21.

GFX50SII

It was originally planed to ship by the end of September, but Fujifilm issued an official delivery delay notice for the GFX50SII with GF35-70 kit, so let’s see how this will change things.

So far all stores expect the body only version as well as the kit version to be available on October 21.

GF35-70mmF4.5-5.6

So far stores expect it to ship on November 30. Only Adorama is slightly more optimistic and gives us November 20 as shipping start.

X-E4

It’s on back-order everywhere. And the situation seems to be rather dramatic, as BHphoto and AmazonUS even stopped accepting pre-orders on it. You can still order it at Adorama.

XF70-300mmF4-5.6

It is back-ordered everywhere. The only time indications we get comes from AmazonUS here, who expects stock around October 20 and Moment here, who is more optimistic and hopes to be able to ship some samples on October 3.

XF27mmF2.8 R WR

This is the one lens every X shooter should own (and I own it), but you can’t buy it at the moment, as it is unavailable everywhere. AmazonUS even gave up and stopped taking pre-orders on it for now.

X-T30II

It is expected to ship on October 21.

XF 33mmF1.4 R LM WR

It was supposed to start shipping on September 29, but pre-orders are very high and forced Fujifilm to issue an official delivery delay notice. Now it is expected to ship on October 21.

XF 23mmF1.4 R LM WR

It is expected to ship on November 30.

XF18mmF1.4 R LM WR

Good News. This one is in stock everywhere!

Fujifilm X-H2 with 40MP? Don’t Worry About Low Light Performance, as More Pixels are Better for That (but Not For…)

Fujifilm X-H2 and Low Light Photography

When I published the rumor, that the Fujifilm X-H2 will feature a 40 megapixel sensor, some guys paniced that low light performance will terribly suffer from the increased megapixel bump.

But don’t panic, that’s just a myth, that lived for a long time, but finally also DPReviewTV debunked it (video below).

TTArtisan 23mm f/5.6 for Fujifilm X Coming too?

FujiRumors has already share the TTArtisan lens roadmap for Fujifilm X and GFX mount (which includes the first TTArtisan autofocus lens for Fujifilm X mount).

The roadmap has been passed to me directly by TTArtisan, so no need to take it with a grain of salt.

However, now at the Pergear website here, the same TTArtisan roadmap was published with the addition of a lens, not included in the one that had been provided to me by TTartisan, and it’s the TTArtisan 23mm f/5.6.

I assume that Pergear has received an updated roadmap by TTArtisan, hence we will now include this lens in our roadmap, too.

  1. September: APS-C 40mm f2.8 macro lens with Sony/Fuji/Canon/M43/Z/L mount.
  2. September: 90mm f1.25 lens with Sony E/Fuji GFX mount.
  3. October: APS-C 23mm f1.4 lens with Sony/Fuji/Canon/M43 mount.
  4. November/December: 28mm f5.6 lens with Leica M mount.
  5. Future: Autofocus lens for Fujifilm
  6. Future: TTArtisan 23mm f/5.6
