GAME OVER for the XF120mmF2.8 :: Fuji goes for a shorter focal length (below 100mm)!

 XF 60-85

Do you remember when I told you that the XF120mmF2.8 has been delayed to the end of the year?

Well, that was just the beginning of the end for that lens. The lens never convinced Fujifilm. Too big and too heavy. The money, my dear X-shooter friends, is in the smaller lenses, like the XF35mmF2 and the upcoming XF23mmF2!

That’s why, according to a trusted source, the XF120mmF2.8 has been canceled. The source told me that Fuji will go for a “focal length below 100mm”. And now we can confirm that it will something between 60mm and 85mm (but more likely around 75-85mm). The lens should still be 1:1 Macro.

But even if it comes from trusted source, take it with a grain of salt…. Fujifilm can change plans anytime or even scratch lenses from the roadmap (or change specs, like with the XF56mmF1.2, which originally was an F1.4 lens on the roadmap)

Some of you’ll now protest and say: “Patrick, this is just a made up clickbait rumor, that lens is in the official Fujifilm roadmap”! You’re free to do that. But when Fuji updates its roadmap, I’ll gladly look back at those comments ;)

Fujifilm has a clear focus: make smaller and more compact primes! And looking at this Poll, also FR-readers see this as an absolute priority.

cheers

My Search for Lightness, the Switch to Fuji… & Why I love Fuji’s Big and Heavy Lenses anyway (even though I’d never buy them)

Fuji Cannon

It’s a wonderful Sunday Spring day. I’ll soon go out for with my trusty X-T1 (and my nephew) to capture the rebirth of nature, and I hope you have the same plan, too.

So I won’t take much of your time today, and, in a day without Fuji news, I’d just like to quickly share with you my personal Fuji X switch story, give you an idea for your summer holidays and tell you why I love Fuji’s Cannons like the XF50-140 and XF100-400 even though I’d never buy them.

My Search for Lightness, My Switch to Fuji… and a tip for your summer holidays

I took the decision to switch to mirrorless after hiking for a few days, alone, from Albania to Montenegro, crossing the spectacular, wild and remote Albanian Alps starting from the fascinating Koman See, crossing the rural villages of Valbona and Theth and then all the way to Gusinje (I warmly recommend you this trip).

Trust me, after several days of walk, sleeping in a tent on high passes and up to 9 hours walk a day, carrying around the heavy Canon gear didn’t really help. Then, during the sunrise on a mountain peak between Valbona and Theth, I decided that from now on I’ll travel light!

When I arrived back home I started looking at the mirrorless cameras and bought the [shoplink 44354 ebay]Olympus Pen E-P1[/shoplink]… the first of a long series of mirrorless cameras (I’ve tried also Panasonic and Sony), until I finally stumbled on the Fujifilm X-series.

Why Big and Heavy XF-Lenses are Good

For me it’s still like the very first day: mirrorless is all about compact size & weight.

But with the switch of more and more Pro and Enthusiast photographers to the X System, all with different needs, Fujifilm had to react and to offer some bigger lenses too, like the [shoplink 28447 ebay]Fuji XF 50-140mmF2.8 WR[/shoplink], [shoplink 44358 ebay]XF16-55mmF2.8[/shoplink], [shoplink 44359 ebay]XF90mmF2[/shoplink] and the latest cannon, the [shoplink 44360 ebay]XF100-400[/shoplink]… lenses I’d never buy because, for me, it defeats the whole purpose of size&weight containment, but I consider them vital and very important for Fujifilm in order to make the breakthrough in the PRO’s and Enthusiast’s world… so let them come, Fuji (like the 120mm and the rumored 200mm).

alskd

It’s all about creating a system with more choice, a system, where everyone can find the lens he needs (71 X-mount lenses so far). Sure, there are still some gaps, but Fuji will fill them.

And the truth is that, if you invest in Fuji X, size and weight will always be more contained than the comparable DSLR System.

But hey, at the end, no matter which camera & lenses you going to use today, just have fun… and feel free to share your images at the Fuji X Forum and the FR-facebook page.

have a GREAT Sunday

The Golden Age of the Fujifilm X-T1 is Over… the Fuji X-T2 is Coming! :: Best Time to Save Big on X-T1 in USA/EU

RUMOR: Fujifilm working on a XF200mm… F2 (!) lens :-) – Source Right in the Past

200mm

A source, who was right in the past, confirms (thanks!) that there is indeed an XF 200mm in Fuji’s internal Roadmap (like rumored back in October here). The source also said it will be an F2.0 lens.

And since Fuji is somehow reluctant to update its lens roadmap, I’ll do that for you… you’re welcome ;) .

2016 will be THE Fuji Year :: Big Rumor Overview and Rumor Check :: 84% correct rumors…. but actually it’s more ;)

Crystal ball

I’m aware of one thing: I will never ever be able to give you a 100% rumor accuracy.

Sure, I sometimes just post a wrong rumor, but often those “wrong” rumors were actually correct at the time of sharing… it’s just the products did not materialize (did you notice the X-Pro1s amongst the X-Pro1 successor prototypes showed by Fujfilm ;) ?)

But luckily Our Sources Rock, and often they can keep us updated with the latest changes at Fuji’s house. They are my guide through the tons of fakes I get from people who apparently don’t like FujiRumors. And that’s why at the end, in the last 12 months, Fujirumors has the following (in my opinion amazing) numbers:

  • 140 rumors shared
  • 117 of these 140 rumors could be verified
  • 98 of those 117 rumors were correct
  • 19 were wrong (or right at the time of sharing, but Fuji changed plans)
  • 23 rumors still have to be checked
  • 84% correct rumors

So, my fellow X-Shooters, I will continue to keep you up to date with Fuji’s plans, even if this means taking risks that Fuji changes plans, and I’ll expose myself to shitstorms. But my job here is to keep you informed, so that you can make better buying decisions and also send your Feedback directly to Fujifilm (who reads this blog), while they are still discussing possible products.

So here you have the complete Rumor Overview of what has been shared in 2015 and 2016 (and still has to be verfied) + the huge Rumor by Rumor check.

Size Does Matter: The tiny Fujifilm X70 was inspired by the Ricoh GR II. Beyond their pocketable size and weight, both cameras share a Sony-built APS-C sensor with 16.3 MP, a 18.5mmF2.8 lens and plenty of street cred as premium compacts that you can carry with you all the time.

The X70 also incorporates the spirit of the X-series: a solid design with dials for everything, the functionality and image quality of the popular X-T10, and a very well-made lens. It also premieres a tiltable display with touch control for quick focusing, instant shutter release and intuitive image playback.

A black X70 (pre-production) pretending to be weather-resistant

Initially, the X70 was supposed to be introduced in concert with the X-T1 in early 2014, but Fujifilm shelved these plans in favor of the underrated X30. Of, course, the new X70 of 2016 embodies all the major goodies and features that have been developed in the past two years: the new AF system with more sensitive PDAF pixels, AF zones and “3D tracking”, Classic Chrome, a new and improved user interface and now even a touchscreen.

Also correct: the rumor we shared here, about the Video Button becoming a function button. This is interesting, because it’s the same source, who told us: “there is an internal fujifilm lens roadmap that includes a 8mm, a 200mm and the 33mm.

At this point, thanks a lot to the source for sharing the rumors… and well, allow me say this to some folks (once again)… “I told you” ;)

POLL: The Fuji X Future: Medium Format, Full Frame or stick with APS-C? Vote Now!

 photo Fuji Poll Empty_zpszetjwprf.jpg

*Fujifilm Reads You!
Click HERE to see the original FujiRumors Poll, that Fujfiilm used in an official presentation to the Press

APS-C line-up is (almost) complete

If you take a look at the eXcellent Overview over ALL existing and upcoming Fuji X mount lenses here, then you’ll see that with about 70 X-mount lenses available (or soon to come), we can not really talk of a lacking X-mount lens system.

Moreover, if the rumored lenses in Fuji’s roadmap will ever become true, then most of the needs of us X-shooters will be covered. At that point, the APS-C line-up can be considered almost complete.

The Poll

So the big question now is: once Fujifilm completed its APS-C line-up, should they offer a Full Frame sensor or a Medium Format sensor system in addition to its APS-C line-up? Or maybe none of the two and just stick with APS-C?

What would be the better choice for Fujifilm? Feel free to vote the Poll and drop your comment down below.

BIG Fujifilm Rumors Overview (with Reliability Rating) + 2015 Rumor Check (about 90% correct rumors)

 photo Cyristal Ball Empty_zpsh1g8dgp4.jpg

It’s high time to share some hard facts:

  • 544 blog posts published so far in 2015
  • 92 of these 544 articles were rumors
  • 48 were right, 7 were wrong and 37 still have to be verified
  • 87,27% correct rumors shared so far in 2015 (and it’s up to you to decide, if the 7 wrong rumors are really that grave or rather irrelevant)
  • 1000’s of “Thank you” to all those sources, who shared correct rumors with FR. :-)

About the rumor check

All the rumors shared here are different rumors, mostly from different sources, all shared at a different time about different things.

Also consider that for example every single Fuji X-T10 rumor shared over half a year by different sources (the announcement date, several specs, the leaked images etc.) could have been right or wrong. That’s why they have to be listed separately.

Throwing for example all X-T10 rumors into one pot would not respect the work of several FR-sources. It probably wouldn’t even change the correct rumor hit rate at all, since we’d then have to put together also the wrong rumors, which means I’d have shared just 4 wrong rumors instead of 7.

If you don’t trust this list for whatever reason, then feel free to invest a couple of hours of your time, go through all the rumors shared in 2015 and make your own list. Then pass it to me via email. I’ll be happy to publish it on FujiRumors.

Unless I find an official statment from Fujifilm about the delay, I’ll consider it a wrong rumor anyway.]

“Where is the Video-Function Button for Fuji X-T1?” :: About X-T1 Firmware 4.10, and why you should still keep faith :)

 photo gna_zpskpism8rd.png

You might or might not remember, that already back in early August, I’ve spread rumors saying that, after the amazing FW 4.0, the Kaizen Love for the X-T1 was not over. In fact, I got a hint that another Firmware is right now in the works, maybe to be named Firmware 5.0.

And I have elements to trust this rumor. There should indeed be more Kaizen love for the X-T1. What I’m trying to find out at the moment is which changes/features it will bring and when exactly it will be released. And I’m also trying to find some fellow X-tester willing to share the Beta-Firmware-file with all of us :) .

So what I think is this: the customizable Video Button will come. It will be one of the features of Firmware 5.0 (if Fuji will number it 5.0). In my eyes, the source just mixed up things a bit. It knew about the new FN-button via Firmware, but confused FW 4.10 with 5.0.

Sure, Firmware 5.0 will tell if I’m right with my assumption. And if I am, then also the second part of the rumor this source shared, the new rumored lens roadmap, could still be correct. If not, then sorry guys. I’ll try to fix it and give you a more reliable rumor about the next Fuji lens roadmap.

However, even if the source is right, and just mixed up FW 4.10 with FW 5.0, fact is that I told you that FW 4.10 will bring the customizable video button. This is why I’ll move it right in the “wrong rumors” section of my big rumor overview. I’m merciless with myself. So this rumor will join the other few wrong rumors, like the Adobe tethering update, that I said will come in August, but came 3 days too early, on July 29. Wrong is wrong!
