Inside the Fujifilm Factory with Lok: Assemblling the Fujifilm GFX100 and the Discontinued Fujifilm X-H1

Lok brings you inside the Fujifilm factory in Sendai, Japan.

The first thing he shows, is part of the assembly of the Fujifilm GFX100. Lok is surprised to see that so much of the assembly is done by hand.

You also see how meticulously every smallest dust particle is removed from the sensor and the lenses.

Lok then tries to apply the rubber texture to a Fujifilm X-H1, but what looks easy in skilled hands, turns out to much more difficult to do if you are not trained for it.

And if you wonder, why a Fujifilm X-H1, well, I believe the tour dates back to May/June 2019, when we already shared a couple of similar Fujifilm Sendai factory tour videos.

At that time, Fujifilm only stopped selling Fujifilm X-H1 body only, but they where still producing it, since it had a big revival pushed by the Fujifilm X-H1 + vertical grip combo deals.

Here on FujiRumors, the Fujifilm X-H1 even beat the Fujifilm X-T3 in terms of overall 2019 sales, thanks to this deal.

The production of Fujifilm X-H1 probably only ended in the second half of 2019.

You can see the full factory tour video below.

Top Sellers 2019: Fujifilm X-H1 Glory, Viltrox Rise, Fujicron Love, Capture One Triumph and More

A long and exciting year is ending, and let’s see which one was the favorite gear of the FujiRumors community in 2019.

Keep in mind this are the last days, where you can save big on most of the gear listed below. So make sure to check out the massive official Fujifilm X and GFX deals (exp. Jan.5)

TOP SELLING PRODUCT OVERALL

  1. Anker PowerCore+ 26800 PD

The Anker PowerCore+ 26800 PD are officially recommended by Fujifilm to charge your cameras, while in use or when switched off. All details here.

TOP SELLING ACCESSORIES

  1. Anker PowerCore+ 26800 PD
  2. Textured Rubber Grip Stickers Black
  3. Haoge LH-X13 Bayonet Square Metal Lens Hood for Fujifilm
  4. SanDisk 128GB Ultra Dual Drive USB Type-C – USB-C, USB 3.1

I bought the SanDisk 128GB dual USB-drive myself, as I own a MacBook Pro with USB-C only, but my school still uses computers with USB 3 and also on travels, when I need to print a flight ticket and ask the reception to do so, they usually do not have USB-C connection. This SanDisk 128GB dual USB-drive solved this problem, as it works with both, and is also extremely small.

It was the 4th best selling item this year, and I decided to add it in the list, to let you know that you currently save 62% on San Disk dual drive.

The textured rubber grip costs only $10 and you can see here how it improves the grip and also protects it.

TOP SELLING CAMERAS

  1. Fujifilm X-H1
  2. Fujifilm X-T3
  3. Fujifilm X-T30 (but X-Pro3 would have deserved it, as I explain below)

The terrific rebate on X-H1 pushed it on the top of the ranking for 2019. The Fujifilm X-H1 is discontinued, but you still can find last samples in some stores. Check stock at BHphoto, Adorama, AmazonUS, Focuscamera.

The Fujifilm X-T30 made it on the ranking, thanks to a huge deal on AmazonUS that was evidently an error, which Amazon decided to honour.

But if it wasn’t for the error X-T30 deal, the Fujifilm X-Pro3 would have taken that spot easily.

TOP SELLING LENS OVERALL

  1. Fujinon XF35mm f/2

Last year this category was won by Laowa 9mm F2.8 Zero-D, but this year Fujinon takes back the top spot, with the much loved Fujinon XF35mm f/2.

TOP SELLING FUJINON X LENSES

  1. Fujinon XF 35mm f/2
  2. Fujinon XF 50mm f/2
  3. Fujinon XF 16-80mm f/4

Small, affordable, great quality: that’s the winning formula of Fujicron line, which is an absolute favorite for you.

The Fujinon XF 16-80mm f/4 enjoys the advantage of being a brand new lens. Let’s see if it will be in the ranking also next year.

TOP SELLING GFX GEAR

Huge interest also here on FujiRumors for the stellar Fujifilm GFX100.

Regarding lenses, GFX shooters went mostly either for super compact (GF50mm f/3.5) or super fast (GF110mm f/2)

TOP SELLING THIRD PARTY LENSES

  1. Viltrox 85mm f/1.8 autofocus lens
  2. Mitakon Speedmaster 35mm f/0.95
  3. Neewer 35mm F1.2

Given the success of the Viltrox 85mm f/1.8 autofocus lens, I am sure many of us can’t wait for the new Viltrox autofocus trinity to come early 2020.

  • read here – The Rise of Chinese Lenses and Top 7 Chinese Fujifilm X Mount Lenses

The Meike Neewer 35mm F1.2 was already very cheap, but thanks to a further price reduction, it is now that cheap, that even more decided to give it a try.

TOP SELLING SOFTWARE

  1. Capture One 20
  2. Luminar 4
  3. Adobe Creative Cloud

If 2018 saw the rise of Capture One among Fujifilm shooters, 2019 saw the final and definitive triumph!

And after a summer passed on my mountains and editing images, the inevitable happened: also FujiRumors left Lightroom for Capture One!

Luminar 4 is on a worthy and respectable 2nd place, and it will be the next software, I will deeply look into. Will it be able to dethrone Capture One for my editing? Stay on FujiRumors, and I will let you know ;).

Fujifilm X-H1 (and X-T2) Marked as Discontinued: The Era of 24 Megapixel is Over, but the Time for Fujifilm X-H2 has Not Yet Come

Good Bye Fujifilm X-H1

The Fujifilm X-H1 is now marked as discontinued at BHphoto in basically all its configurations.

Just a few days ago, the same happened to the Fujifilm X-T2 here.

The era of Fujifilm’s 24 megapixel cameras is over.

But I feel I need to say a few words about the Fujifilm X-H1, a camera that didn’t get the success it deserved, mainly for a very unlucky timing by Fujifilm: releasing the more powerful Fujifilm X-T3 just half a year later.

I have no idea how Fujifilm Japan thought this could work out well. Maybe they thought that IBIS alone is enough to keep the X-H1 attractive also once the X-T3 hits the market. But apparently they were wrong.

And yet, at its very last moments, the Fujifilm X-H1 lived moments of glory, by selling like hot cakes thanks to massive rebates.

Ok, I hear you say… Fujifilm X-H2 is coming.

Well, the Fujifilm X-H2 is on Fuji’s “to do” list, and it will come, but Fuji won’t release it in 2020.

X-H1 anyone?

The Fujifilm X-H1 is running out of stock, but you can still find it available in some stores, for example at Adorama here.

So, if you want to grab one, you better do it now.

Fujifilm X-H1, Still Worth Buying? Fuji X-H1 IBIS Compared to Sony a7iii (with a Clear Winner)

Fujifilm X-H1 vs Sony A7III IBIS Comparison

When the Fujifilm X-H1 came out, it was the first Fujifilm camera with IBIS (well, after this one actually, but…).

Inevitably everybody started comparing Fuji’s IBIS to the ones available on other systems, especially on Sony… and so did Lee Zavitz now!

He now grabbed a Fujifilm X-H1 and tested its IBIS using the latest Fujifilm X-H1 firmware.

If you click the video above (which will start at 4:55), you will see it compared side by side to the IBIS on the Sony a7iii. The difference is hugely in favor of the Fujifilm X-H1. Actually it’s that bad on the Sony a7III, that one might think IBIS was disabled.

On the Sony IBIS side, things do not really get better with the smaller Sony A6600.

As we reported just yesterday Gordon from Cameralabs said that:

in some cases tuning on IBIS on Sony A6600 almost gives as shaky results as with IBIS turned OFF“.

Don’t get me wrong, Sony is great and we are all lucky to have such a wonderful camera manufacturer on the market. They deserve all the success they have, and in some areas they lead the pack (eye-aufofocus).

But sometimes, like IBIS and weather sealing (as reported here), one could get the impression Sony wants to put those specs on paper as a selling point, but they don’t really put all the R&D necessary to make them work at their best.

Not sure if Fujifilm should do the same, meaning don’t care much about how well the IBIS on their smaller X-T prototypes currently works, and just release an X-T4 or X-T40 with IBIS as soon as possible.

At the end of the day it will show up on the specs sheets, and hence become a selling point, no matter how well or not it works.

Or maybe Fujifilm should remain obsessed by how well their stuff actually works, and just wait until their smaller IBIS unit works properly.

Fujifilm X-H1, Still Worth Buying?

So, is the Fujifilm X-H1 still worth buying?

Well, now that you can get it with vertical grip and 2 additional batteries for $999 only, there can be only 1 possible answer: I don’t know, it’s up to you! :)

But if your answer is “yes”, then you have on big problem: the Fujifilm X-H1 is back-ordered on many stores, so good luck finding one.
