Fujifilm Shows Speed Improvements from X-Trans I to X-Trans IV

Fujifilm X-T3 Speed

I am probably one of the few people out there, who has owned them all: X-Trans 1 (stolen in Greece), X-Trans 2 (destroyed in a river) and X-Trans 3 (because it’s too sexy). And with every generation, the speed improvement of my Fujifilm cameras was noticable.

The new X-Trans 4 and X Processor 4 in the Fujifilm X-T3 raises the bar even further.

A media slide shared by the Spanish site Fujistas (translation) shows how much faster the new sensor and processor on the Fujifilm X-T3 are compared to its predecessors.

The new BSI sensor improves sensor readout, and the X Processor 4 is a massive improvement compared to everything else Fujifilm had in the past.

Overview of the FUJIFILM Exhibition at Photokina 2018

As you know, Fujifilm has launched a dedicated Fujifilm Photokina microsite, where you can check out all the events planed for photokina.

Now they also published an official press release with all the details.

Well, actually not really all the details, since they don’t tell you that they will display also the Fujifilm GFX 50R, which will be announced on September 25 at 07:30 AM New York time :).

Here is the press release:

Full List of Elinchrom Skyport Pro Supported Fujifilm Cameras

Elinchrom Transmitter for Fujifilm

Back in July, we reported that Elinchrom announced Skyport Pro support for Fujifilm coming in September 2018.

And just two weeks ago, we leaked the first images of a working prototype of the Fujifilm compatible Elinchrom Trigger (and the source also unveiled to us the reason why we Fujifilm X shooters had to wait so long for Elinchrom support).

But we are getting closer now, and on August 14, Elinchrom also updated their support page and shared more details about which Fujifilm cameras will be supported:

Thanks to the FR reader, who send me this information via rumor box :) .

YES, WE CAN! Wedding Photography with Fujifilm – What’s in Fuji X Shooters Wedding Bags, Setting Tips and More

Believe it or not, Fujifilm is used for all kind of professional work.

And it seems photographers love to use Fujifilm also for weddings.

Even 9 year old Regina shot a full wedding on an X-T1 and, unlike someone else, she seems to have no problems to move the focus point :) .

So it happens that Fujifilm gear finds its way into the bags of many wedding photographers – I even met a wedding X shooter casually while cycling around my mountains.

So today I decided to share a roundup dedicated to which Fujifilm gear (and bags/flashes etc) photographers carry in their wedding-bag, as well as the settings they use and some more curiosities.

Fujifilm is Reaching 50% Mirrorless Camera Market Share and Dominates Sony, Canon & Co… in Narnia Thailand

Fujifilm Domination

There is one country, where like no other, Fujifilm mirrorless cameras are selling like hot cakes and dominate all other brands: Narnia Thailand!

It might seem a phantasy tale, but it’s true.

Today I can share with you the precise numbers of the growth (see below), as well as Fujifilm Thailand’s new goal: 50% market share of the entire compact (they probably mean mirrorless*) interchangeable lens camera market (see above)!

50% market share of the entire mirrorless market might sound foolish, but if you look at the detailed data down below, you will see that they are already not too far away from that goal.

We know that in Thailand the X-A line (and very likely also the X-T100 line) sell incredibly well, 2 lines that in Europe and USA don’t have much appeal (maybe the Fujifilm X-T100 could find some bigger fellowship over here… it certainly deserves one).

* Fujifilm managers said in March 2018 to dpreivew: “In Thailand, our market share for mirrorless is over 40%.”
* Fuji Guys Billy said in February 2017, that “Fujifilm is Nr.1 brand in Thailand“. He does not specify if DSLR is included, but it seems from the video he is including DSLR cameras, too.
* in 2016 a source told me that “Fujifilm was the best-selling MILC in 2015, outselling all the Canon interchangeable lens cameras (DSLR and those EOS-M lines) combined
* a Manager said to Spanish website in 2016, that ““there is a little known fact: in Thailand, for example, X-A series outsells Canon!”

Fujifilm X-E3 Brown and X-A3 double Kit to be Released in Japan on August 9

According to nokishita, Fujifilm will release the brown X-E3 and the X-A3 double kit in Japan on August 9.

I remember you that we reported that Fujifilm USA has currently no plans to sell any brown Fujifilm, neither the brown X-E3 nor the brown X100F and brown X-T100.

The brown colors are available in several Asian and EU countries, as well as in Canada.

If they sell well, I guess also Fujifilm USA will start selling them.

Fujifilm X-Trans Vs. Bayer: Pros and Cons of Going Bayer or Sticking with X-Trans Sensor

X-Trans Vs. Bayer

First and foremost, let me say that I LOVE X-TRANS.

But the fact that I love X-Trans, does not prevent me from discussing the big Bayer Vs. X-Trans debate, that has recently been fueled again by DPReviewTV in the X-T100 review and Tony Northrup in his X-H1 review, in the most objective way as possible.

So today’s question is: is there any reason why Fujifilm should go Bayer also on higher end APS-C Fujifilm X-series cameras?

WARNING

Some people do probably not have the 5 minutes of time it needs to read this article. They will read the headline, and arguing in favor or against X-Trans/Bayer by default :) .

So for those people, who refuse to read the article and don’t go beyond the headline, I will at least make a bullet-point list, in the hope they will read that one at least.

This is a super short condensation and simplification of more complicated subjects, and as such it is naturally an inaccurate list. Each point will elaborated and clarified in all its shades below.

X-Trans Pros

  • less color noise at high ISO
  • less moiré (an advantage that will become negligible once APS-C sensor go beyond 30MP)
  • sharper compared to cameras with same pixel number and optical low pass filter, unless the processing in camera is very aggressive, like on X-A5 and X-T100
  • more pleasing “film-like” grain at high ISO

Bayer Pros

  • 20%-30% less processing power required (possible benefits listed below)
  • cheaper to produce than X-Trans

Brutally short conclusion:

  • X-Trans is better for image quality
  • Bayer is better for features and speed, unless Fujifilm can compensate for the extra 20-30% processing power required by the X-Trans sensor with a more powerful processor (present in Fujifilm X-T3), new sensor tech for faster sensor readout (maybe stacked sensor) and better heat management (present in X-H1)

If you want, you can now start your 5 minutes reading time :)

FUJIFILM Launches FILM SIMULATION Instant Noodles, Their Plan B in Case the X and GFX Series Fails!

Fujifilm Noodles – The Future

Fujifilm is known to be a very creative company, always open to new markets and ideas.

For example, they used the materials of their dying film rolls business to produce cosmetics (see also “how Fujifilm survived the digital age“).

A flexible company like Fujifilm coudn’t miss the digital camera train, and they released the amazing X and GFX series cameras and lenses.

But what if all this fails?

Well, Fujifilm has a fantastic Plan B: Feed the World!

In fact, Fujifilm Korea just launched the Fujifilm Film Simulation Instant Noodles.

Not kidding guys.

Check out the official Fujifilm Korea page here, as well as their facebook page here.

Noodles: a market that can’t be eaten up by smartphones, so definitely more future proof than digital cameras ;) .

Some FR-readers are already beta tasting the noodles now, and share their feedback at our facebook page here. Also Roy Cruz has already his Fujifilm Noodles First Look at his youtube channel here.

I remind you that Fujifilm technology is already making beer tastier, as we reported here.

Oh… and make sure follow us on Facebook, RSS-feed, Instagram, Youtube and Twitter to get more of these fantastic news.

Fujifilm X-E3 in Brown at Listed at Fujifilm Canada

Fujifilm X-E3 Brown

The brown Fujifilm X-E3 has been listed a few days ago at Fujifilm Canada here. Thanks to these images, we can see for the first time how it the backside looks.

In my eyes, the Fujifilm X-E3 looks so good, that it would cut a fine figure in every color. But I still prefer the black or silver versions, though.

Overall the brown colors seems to fit better to the brown X100F.
