Fujifilm X Photographer Shares Fujinon XF 33mm f/1.0 Image on Instagram. Beta Testing Started?

Fujinon XF 33mm f/1.0

Russian wedding photographer and official Fujifilm X photographer Alexey Malyshev (instagramfujifilm profile) just shared this instagram story, where he publicy asks people to guess which lens is mounted on his Fujifilm X-T3 (or maybe X-T2).

He gave us a hint: it’s not for sale yet.

Easy, this is definitely the Fujifilm Fujinon XF 33mm f/1.0 R WR lens, which is scheduled for 2020 release.

I am not sure, but Alexey posts could indicate that the beta testing program just started, but it could also be just a dummy*. In any case I will follow his instagram now, and in case I see images with razor thing DOF, I will let you know ;).

*UPDATE: Jonas Rask said in the comments to this post it is just a dummy, since it does not mount properly

Would be great if any Russian FR-reader could entirely translate what Alexey wrote in his instagram story [UPDATE: translation came in, thanks. Read below].

Who can guess what lens it is? If lens will be guessed, I gonna show some new super gun. Hint: It’s not even for sale yet.

Here on FujiRumors we have discussed the Fujinon XF33mm f/1.0 R WR extensively, for example:

Time To Decide: Up to $1,000 Fujifilm X/GFX Savings Ending TODAY

The Big Deals

You had a couple of weeks to think about it and to struggle with it, but now it is time to take a decision.

The huge Fujifilm X/GFX deals (save up to $1,000) will end March 30.

While Fujifilm offers deals about 2 or 3 times a year, traditionally the best deals happen between February/March, since the Japanese fiscal year ends in March, and Fujifilm tries hard to sell as much as possible to show up with better figures in front of investors.

The Fujifilm X-T30 bundle deals (save $300) will run until April 22.

The epic Capture One Pro 12 deal (save 50%) ends on March 31.

Fujifilm Manager Interview

Just yesterday DPReview published their Fujifilm CP+ interview, with lots of interesting topics to discuss. Make sure to check it out here (including the hundreds of comments).

Now the Thai youtube channel กล้องกล้วยกล้วย interviewed Fujifilm manager Mr. Makoto Oishi.

It’s a 49 minutes interview in Thai and constantly translated into English. Too cumbersome and no time? Don’t worry, it’s all summed up down below for you :)

DPReviewTV Fujifilm XF 16mm f/2.8 Quick Review and Compared to XF 16mm f/1.4

Fujinon XF 16mm f/2.8

Chris and Jordan from DPReviewTV published their quick review about the Fujifilm Fujinon XF 16mm f/2.8 WR (video above – entirely shot on Fujifilm X-T3).

Here are their findings:

  • perfect lens for street photography
  • compact and affordable
  • XF 16mm f/1.4 is sharper, but way bigger and heavier
  • XF 16mm f/2.8 pretty decent at f/2.8 and sharper in corners at f/4
  • very quick AF and also smooth for video
  • beautiful bokeh throughout the aperture range
  • at the price point, as to expect, a bit of chromatic aberration and distortion
  • fun, affordable and compact
  • great price point
  • Fuji gives us amazing choice when it comes to APS-C lens selection

These Are the Top Selling Fujifilm X/GFX Deals on FujiRumors – Last Week to Save up to $1,000

Top Selling Fujifilm Deals

So, the huge Fujifilm X / GFX deals will expire very soon, and I have checked what was the favorite gear the FujiRumors community decided to buy.

And to be clear: the results below are only about Fujifilm gear bought by the FujiRumors community and do not represent the overall sales for Fujifilm.

If you want to see which gear won the best-selling ranking overall in 2018, check out this article.

Top Software

A true migration to Capture One Pro 12 is taking place thanks to a huge 50% discount, which will end in March.

Top 5 Lenses

  1. XF 35mm f/2 (save $300 if purchased with X-T30)
  2. XF 50mm f/2 (save $300 if purchased with X-T30)
  3. XF 16mm f/1.4 (save $250)
  4. XF 56mm f/1.2 (save $250)
  5. XF 16-55mm f/2.8 (save $300)

Fujifilm’s f/2 lens line keeps up being your favorite, and you can get them discounted if bundled with X-T30. But the f/2 lenses sell strong also if not included in the bundle.

When it comes to lens deals only, the XF 16mm f/1.4 wins comfortably, followed by Fuji’s currently fastest lens (until the XF33mmF1.0 hits the stores next year) and the XF16-55mmF2.8, which, in combination with the Fuji X-H1 IBIS, is a fantastic combo.

Top Third Party Lenses

  1. Mitakon 35mm f/0.95
  2. Kamlan 50mm f/1.1
  3. 7Artisans 55mm f/1.4

The recent 1-day-deal on the Mitakon 35mm f/0.95 helped to push sales of this lens on the top.

Top 3 Cameras

  1. Fujifilm X-H1 (new retail price and additional $467 savings if purchased with vertical grip)
  2. Fujifilm X-T3 (save up to $200)
  3. Fujifilm X-T30 (save $300 on bundles)

It’s a head to head race between X-H1 and X-T3, with the X-H1 winning by a very small margin. The new low retail price on Fuji X-H1 definitely helped to push sales, making this camera, in my opinion, best value for the money in the current Fuji lineup.

I guess also the recent rumor, that we will not see a Fujifilm X-H2 anytime soon, helped a bit to facilitated X-H1 sales (I confirm this rumor).

The X-T10/20/30 line is notoriously (and undeservedly) a very low selling line here on FujiRumors. It is far behind the X-T3 and X-H1, and in 2018, even the Fujifilm GFX 50R sold better than the Fujifilm X-T20.

However, the recent X-T30 mega-deal on AmazonUS and the current X-T30 bundle deals helped a bit to push it on the 3rd spot.

Top GFX Gear

  1. Fujinon GF100-200 (no deal)
  2. Fujifilm GFX 50R (save up to $1,000 bundle deal)
  3. Fujifilm GFX 50S (new retail price)

Despite the lower new retail price on Fujifilm GFX 50S, the Fujifilm GFX 50R keeps up selling better than the “S”. Fujifilm managers said they were surprised by the 50R demand.

Top Accessories

  1. SanDisk Extreme Pro 128 GB
  2. Anker PowerCore+ 26800 PD
  3. Western Digital 6TB Elements Hard Drive

I also just bought the Anker PowerCore+ 26800 PD to charge all my devices on the road, including my Fujifilm X-E3. I am very satisfied with it. If you want to know which other Fujifilm cameras you can charge with, check out this article.

Fujifilm also recommends the Anker PowerCore Speed 20000 PD.

This Guy Sticks with Fujifilm APS-C, Does Not Go FULL FRAME and Shares a “Cure Your GAS” Excel Spreadsheet

Cure Your GAS

In times, where we are bombarded with marketing material about Full Frame mirrorless cameras, Jason wonders if he should switch to FF from his Fujifilm X-T2.

But instead of just following the hype (and the GAS), he decided to applied a methodology that helps him to decide more objectively if such a switch would make sense.

First he list the 5 most important characteristics he looks for in a camera according to importance:

  • portability – 30% importance
  • lens selection – 20% importance
  • user interface – 20% importance
  • image quality – 15% importance
  • autofocus – 15% importance

He then assigned a rating to each of the above features for the following cameras: Fujifilm X-T3, Fujifilm X-T2, Sony A7III, Nikon Z7, Panasonic S1 and Canon EOS R.

He ended up with the following results:

Ranking:

  • Fujifilm X-T3 – 7.9
  • Fujifilm X-T2 – 7.75
  • Sony A7III – 7.65
  • Nikon Z7 – 6.8
  • Canon R – 6.7
  • Panasonic S1 – 6.15

The results showed him that he can save himself the $6,000+ he’d need to switch to the Sony A7III (+ lenses he needs), since it ranks even below the camera he already uses, the Fujifilm X-T2.

He concludes that he better spends that money for nice trip with his X-T2.

Of course everybody will get different results, depending on which top 5 features you select and which importance you assign to them.

So which one is the right call for you?

Use Jason’s methodology, download and edit his “Cure Your GAS Excel Spreadsheet” on dropbox here, and let’s see if Fujifilm is still the right call also for you.

Altough I find this a cool methodology, I personally won’t make this test, since I already know that what need to reach ultimate photographic happiness is an X-E4 with tilt screen and this XF 27mmF2.8 with aperture ring.

Fujifilm X-Pro3 will Be Made In Japan – Anonymous Source

Fujifilm X-Pro3

Here on FujiRumors we value your trust.

This is why we meticlously filter anonymous rumors, and you guys will read only those, that I feel confident to share (the tons of fakes I get every year will never go online).

But, even though today I feel confident to share, I invite you to take every anonymous rumor with a grain of salt.

An anonymous source (who used a nick-name, thanks!) contacted me via rumor box and told me the next Fujifilm X-Pro3 will still be made in Japan.

Fujifilm moved the Fujifilm X-T3 production to China in order to be able to sell it sensibly cheaper to customers. This is why, at launch, the brand new Fujifilm X-T3 cost less than the Fuji X-T2.

By keeping the X-Pro3 production in Japan, we can expect the X-Pro3 to match the current Fujifilm X-Pro2 price or be even higher.

We remind you that the Fujifilm X-Pro3 will come in 2019.

That’s it… for now, but I have lots (!!!) of rumors I am working on. Follow FujiRumors on Facebook, RSS-feed, Twitter, Youtube and Instagram to read them all soon.

Also, if anyone out there is willing to help me out in the thick rumor jungle, feel free to contact me also anonymously via rumor box.

MESSAGE TO THIS ANONYMOUS SOURCE: Thank you very much!!! I have read also the other rumors you shared, and since they are pretty long-term, I will give it a quick double-check with sources and share them hopefully very soon. Thanks again for the help, and feel free to contact me again whenever you want using the nickname.
