Press Release
Fujinon XF 10-24mmF4 vs XF 8-16mmF2.8 (rated F2.8 but more Likely T3.5), XF35/1.4 vs XF35/2 – Fujinon XF Lens Review Roundup
Fujinon XF 8-16mm f/2.8 Reviews
Michael de Maven reviews the Fujinon XF 8-16 f2.8 and compares it to the Fujifilm XF10-24 f4. Is the Fujinon XF 8-16mm f/2.8 worth $2k? Are you better off getting the Fujinon XF10-24mm f/4? Here are his key points:
- XF 8-16 has lots of lens elements, so lots of engineering went into this
- 10-24 is half the weight of 8-16
- 8-16 is front heavy
- 8-16 better build quality
- wide open the 10-24 at f/4 slightly sharper in corners than 8-16 at f/2.8. Same at telephoto end
- at 10mm both at f/5.6 they are close
- at widest focal length and widest aperture, the 8-16 has a clear advantage in the peripheral center
- stopped down at f/8, the 8-16 has a big sharpness advantage in peripheral center
- both lenses very good with chromatic aberration and minimal sun flare in both
- he talks about F-stop and T-stop. F-stops does not tell us how much light really hits the sensor. The amount of light that really comes through the lens on the sensor is T-stop.
- with exactly the same exposure settings, the XF8-16mmF2.8 delivers slightly darker results than the XF10-24
- the XF8-16 is rated f/2.8 but according to his testings it’s probably about a T3.5 lens
- he ends up recommending the currently $250 discounted XF10-24mmF4 to most people
- he recommeds the currently $500 disocunted XF8-16mmF2.8 to professional wedding photographers, astro photographers, for architecture (it’s wider) and for landscapes (it’s weather sealed and sharper at f/8, so better for large prints)

Fujinon XF8-16mmF2.8 Review: “Sensational IQ in Frame Centre, but $2,000 is too Much”
Fujinon XF8-16mm
The Fujinon XF 8-16mmF2.8 will ship at the end of November, and we have a few more reviews, unboxing and samples on the web.
The most comprehensive review has been shared by lenstip. Overall they think the lens price of $2,000 is not justified.
“After the test I find the number of small slip-ups of this lens a bit too high so, I suppose, only lowering of price can help. Of course it doesn’t change the fact the Fujinon remains a very well-done and optically good lens.”
Here are their Pros and Cons:
REAL LIFE SIZE COMPARISON: Fujinon XF16-80mm vs XF18-135mm and Fujinon XF16mmF2.8 vs XF35mmF2
These are the first real life comparisons between the Fujinon XF16-80mmF4 (mcok-up) and XF18-135mmF3-5-5.6 as well as the Fujinon XF16mmF2.8 (mcok-up) and XF 35mmF2.
These are nt final lenses, only mock-ups, so size might change until final release.
Unblike all the XF16-80 mock-ups we have seen previously, this one has no marked aperture ring.
And if you want to see how the Fujinon XF 33mmF1.0 compares to the XF 35mmF1.4 and XF 35mmF2, make sure to check out this article.

Fujinon XF16mmF2.8 vs XF18mmF2 vs XF16mmF1.4 – SIZE COMPARISON
Fujinon XF18mmF2 Vs XF16mmF2.8 vs XF16mmF1.4
This is the final upcoming Fujinon XF lens size comparison. In previous articles we covered:
The XF16mmF2.8 is a bit bigger than the XF18mmF2 and a bit smaller than the XF35mmF2.
The comparison is based on the images I took and what I have seen with my own eyes at the Photokina Fujifilm booth.
Of course this can’t be super-accurate, but I’d say it’s 85+% close to perfection. Keep in mind, though, that the size of the XF16mmF2.8 mockup I have seen at photokina might change until the final lens is released sometimes in 2019.

Fujinon XF8-16mmF2.8 vs XF16mmF1.4 and XF200mmmF2 on Fujifilm X-T3
Fujinon XF8-16mm F2.8 & XF200mm F2
During my stay at photokina 2018, I had the priviledge to test out the Fujinon XF 8-16mmF2.8 as well as the XF 200mmF2.
I could not really put those lenses through its paces, since I could only test them out at Fuji’s touch & try corner, but even during my short flirt with them, they didn’t fail to impress me (I used them both on the Fujifilm X-T3).
Yes, the XF 8-16mmF2.8 and XF 200mmF2 are not a bargain, but as they say, “you get what you pay for“. Enough said ;) .
Reviews about the XF 8-16 and XF 200 are not easy to find on the web and we will have to wait for them to be available in October/November, to see more of them.
We did share a major roundup a few weeks ago here, and here are some tidbits, including a quick comparison between the Fujinon XF8-16mmF2.8 and XF16mmF1.4, which is arguably one of the top three primes in Fujifim’s entire lens lineup.

Fujinon XF Roadmap lenses
Photographyblog has published a bunch of hands on photos of the XF33mmF1.0, XF16-80mmF4. and XF16mmF2.8. You can check the out here and a selection down below.
FujiRumors has shared 2 days ago an image of all these three lenses side by side. The XF33mmF1.0 has pretty much the size of the XF16-55mmF2.8.
SIDE BY SIDE: Fujinon XF33mm F1.0 vs Fujinon XF16-80mm F4 vs Fujinon XF16mmF2.8
Fujinon Roadmap Lenses
For the second time today (first time here), I had to find a way through the security check and get into the Photokina halls. Stealthy like a ninja, I made it again.
This time I was armed with my wonderful Fujifilm X-E3 and I snapped some pictures of the upcoming Fujinon lenses.
I apologize for the quality, since I tried to make my way through a couple of Fujifilm managers and an angry lady, who told me “can I help you” in a tone that clearly ment “p*** off from here“.
So time was limited, the conditions difficult, I could not touch the lenses, but I made it… somehow.
And when nobody was watching, I quickly grabbed a Fujifilm GFX 50R and made a super quick hands on video.
Back to the lenses:
- XF33mmF1.0: Yes, it’s rather big, especially compared to the Mitakon 35mm F0.95 (manual focus only). I guess Fujifilm wants to make this the ultimate lens in terms of image quality, and still offer a fast AF motor. Filter size 77
- XF16mmF2.8: Very small. Fits perfect in the Fujicron lineup with the XF23mmF2, XF35mmF2 and XF50mmF2. Filter size 49
- XF16-80mmF4: This lens, my friends, will fall into the hands of many fellow X-shooters for travels. Filter size 72
