The Hidden Roadmap?

I honestly can’t even remember the last time Fujifilm officially updated its Fujinon X-mount roadmap. If I’m not mistaken, the most recent one dates all the way back to 2021.

Since then, years have passed and Fujifilm has consistently refused to provide any updates.

That’s frustrating.

But even without roadmap, Fujifilm did hint on possible future lenses several times in the past, for example:

So is the 2024 lists real and rocksolid roadmaps as some call it?

Well, let’s fact check it.

The 2019 “Roadmap”

Some of the lenses shared in 2019 came to life, but many others not.

And we got other lenses instead never listed on the 2019 list.

So no, the 2019 list was not a roadmap.

The 2024 “Roadmap”

The list of 2024 is in part more vague (no precise indication of focal length and aperture), but on the other hand gives us other possible specs, like size and weight.

From that list, as of today two of those lenses have already been released, with a third one just around the corner.

So while it might seem that Fujifilm is working through that 2024 list by one, there are a few important disclaimer to make.

  • The 2024 list does not mention any MKII lenses

This is unrealistic.

I’m sure Fujifilm is quietly developing long-awaited MKII versions—perhaps even of some iconic lenses—but they’re wise enough not to list them publicly as “under study.” After all, even hinting at a successor too early could hurt sales of the current models.

  • Time Passes, Plans Change

The longer time passes, the greater the chance this list will change.

Remember, Fujifilm typically releases about two to three X-mount lenses every two years.

The 2024 list came out at the start of the year, and it took Fujifilm two full years to deliver just three of the lenses from it.

With seven still remaining, and at the current pace, Fujifilm wouldn’t complete the list until around mid-2028.

However, since it generally takes about two years to develop a lens from scratch, a lens green-lit today could realistically hit the market by 2027—still ahead of that 2028 timeline to work through the remaining releases.

And the further away a lens is, the more it is likely that Fujifilm will reshuffle priorities, meaning the “under study” list could change before those distant releases ever materialize.

  • Even Officially Announced Lenses Might Never Come

And let’s not forget: there have been several occasions where Fujifilm officially placed a lens on the roadmap, only to never deliver it.

Think of the XF120mm Macro, the XF33mmF1.0, or the XF56mmF1.4—lenses that were publicly promised but ultimately abandoned as Fujifilm shifted priorities and adjusted its plans.

So if even roadmap lenses can disappear, it’s even more likely that those merely listed as “under study” may never see the light of day.

The Truth

As usual, the truth is somewhere in the middle.

Given that three out of the ten lenses on the 2024 list have already been released (or are about to be), it’s fair to assume that at least a few more will eventually make it to market over the coming months and years.

But I’d be surprised if Fujifilm would stick with that list until 2028 without making any changes.

I think it is likely that by 2028 we will see also MKII lenses – maybe of this lens here (hope, not rumor) – and some never listed on any “under study” list, maybe even one that made it on the top of our own mega-survey.

So if you ever hear someone claim that the 2024 list is Fujifilm’s definitive X-mount roadmap, you now know the context—and why that simply isn’t the case.

Some of the lenses on that list will never come, other never on that list will suddenly appear and MKII lenses are always a high possibility.

These are the last hours before the second Fujifilm price increase.

Fujifilm has officially declared to various news outlets that on August 30 there will be further price increases. According to information we have gathered, the list of price increases should be the one you can see below.

Interestingly, some Fujifilm X and GFX gear on Amazon is still listed at the pre–August 1 pricing. While certain items have already sold out, a few are still available at the original lower price—at least for now.

  • XF 8mmF3.5 – $869 ($899 regular price – $799 pre-tariffs)
  • XF 16mmF2.8 – 11% discount ($399 instead of $449)
  • XF70-300mm* – $799 (currently $899 – was $799 pre-tariff)

Will Fujifilm’s Upcoming Second Price Increase Revive Interest for the Original XF16-55mmF2.8 R WR?

We reported that Fujifilm will again increase prices on plenty of Fujifilm X and GFX gear (full list below).

Not affected by any increase is the original Fujinon XF16-55mmF2.8 R WR.

In fact, it is still sold for $999 at BHphoto here and $989 Amazon here (via third party). Other stores like Adorama here and Nuzira still sell it for $1,199.

So starting August 30 we will have a $400 price difference between the two lenses, which might revive the interest for the original XF16-55/2.8, which really struggled to sell even at rebated price after the launch of the XF16-55mmF2.8 MK II.

6 Days Left Before Fujifilm’s Second Price Increase – Amazon Still Lists Surprising XF/GF Lens Deals

On August 30, Fujifilm will implement yet another price increase in the USA, affecting a wide range of X, GFX, and Instax gear.

This marks the second price hike this month, following the one that already took effect on August 1.

Interestingly, some Fujifilm X and GFX gear on Amazon is still listed at the pre–August 1 pricing. While certain items have already sold out, a few are still available at the original lower price—at least for now.

  • XF 8mmF3.5 – $869 ($899 regular price – $799 pre-tariffs)
  • XF 16mmF2.8 – 11% discount ($399 instead of $449)
  • XF 10-24mmF4 – 9% discount ($999 instead of $1,099)

I’m not sure whether import taxes apply when ordering gear from Amazon Germany or Japan. The Curious Case

Interestingly, I have filtered the Amazon results to show me only “new” items (to get rid of all refurbished gear in the results), and some gear pops up as “FUJIFILM X Replacement Lens” at a great price, even lower than the pre-tariff price.

Some are marked as shipped and sold by Amazon, others by Amazon Japan or Germany. They are all marked as coming with free shipping.

Maybe Amazon is simply taking stock they have all over the world and re-directing it Amazon US?

In any case, make sure to check if you have to pay import taxes on it.

Full List of X and GFX Price Increases Starting August 30

Earlier today we reported how Fujifilm said to some news outlets that prices for certain Fujifilm gear will go up on August 30.

Well, I think we can now share the full list of price increases that will come into effect August 30.

Not all X cameras and lenses will get a price increase. What’s not in the list below is safe.

On the GFX front, pretty much everything will get a price bump.

The biggest price jump (+30%) will go to all sorts of Fujifilm accessories, which I guess are still all made in China.

Of course that’s for now just a rumor. All I can say is that last time we were spot on with the list of price increases. It does not mean that we will be also this time, but it might explain why I am confident enough to share it.

Fujifilm Announced Further Price Increases Coming August 30

On August 1st Fujifilm did increase prices on plenty of X and GFX gear.

We already warned you that further prices increases are planed, but at the time of that article we knew only about instax gear price increases.

Well, Fujifilm has now issued a statement (read below) to several news outlets such as PetaPixel and DRPeview.

The global marketplace continues to present business challenges, driven by the volatile market conditions facing manufacturers, retailers, and consumers alike. With these changes and the instability of the marketplace, we have made the business decision to further adjust prices to accommodate for these global changes. As we navigate the current market situation, Fujifilm is doing all we can to work with our retailers and consumers to weather this storm together. We appreciate your continued support.

Last time the price increases ranged between 8 to 15%, with only one item seeing a hefty 43% price increase.

Last time the Fujifilm X-E5 and Fujifilm X half were not affected by price increases, and it seems that also this time the X-E5 and X half won’t get any price hike.

How much could the price increase be this time?

Well, given that the Fujifilm X-E5 costs $1,699 and the its DSLR styled clone, the Fujifilm X-T50, costs $1,599, it could well be that the X-T50 gets a further $100 price jump, hence a further 6% price increase. But that’s a speculation of mine.

I guess US residents now have less than two weeks left to purchase their gear at current price and avoid even worst surprises.

Viltrox Discontinues Entire f/1.4 APS-C Lens Lineup- REPORT

The Viltrox f/1.4 APS-C line of lenses has been very popular among Fujifilm shooters:

Now a Thomas Fransson said on his youtube channel (video below) that Viltrox is discontinuing its entire f/1.4 APS-C lens lineup (with a doubt if also the Viltrox 13mmF1.4 is included). This information has been passed to Thomas directly from his contacts at Viltrox.

Thomas isn’t sure whether the lenses will be updated with new f/1.4 versions or replaced by models from the Viltrox Air series and the Viltrox f/1.2 series.

A while ago Tokina axed the Viltrox f/1.4 clones.
