Fujifilm X-T3 vs Nikon Z7 vs Fujifilm GFX 50R: How BIG can you PRINT your PHOTOS? – Landscape Photography

APS-C vs Full Frame vs Medium Format

Nigel Danson has tested the Fujifilm GFX50R for DPReviewTV, and his conclusion is that it has the best image quality he has ever used.

The Fujifilm GFX50R is not a perfect camera, though. It is still expensive, and Fujifilm made some bad ergonmic choices, like the removal of the dedicated ISO dial. And given its form and size, it’s also not the easiest to shoot handheld with.

His coverage continues on his own private channel, and this time Nigel compares prints made out of Fujifilm GFX50R, Nikon Z7 and Fujifilm X-T3 files.

Considering that, the bigger the print, the more people will stand back to see the entire image, all cameras deliver good results.

But if you “pixel peep”, the Fujifilm X-T3 (which overall delivers very good results also at fairly big prints), has a disadvantage over the higher megapixel of the Fuji GFX50R and Nikon Z7 at very large prints.

Most important, though, are the lenses, and he is blown away by the quality of the Fujinon GF lenses and their corner to corner sharpness.

Fujifilm GFX50S: Can Hasselblad Compete With Fujifilm, GFX 50S vs Nikon D850 vs Sony A7RIII vs Canon EOS 5DS, Gigapixel Image

Fujifilm GFX

With the release of the more affordable, smaller and lighter Fujifilm GFX50R, Fujifilm has dropped the price of the Fuji GFX50S to $5,499 (check BHphoto, Adorama and AmazonUS).

The Fujifilm GFX 50S might be still more expensive over the “R”, but if offers features the Fujifilm GFX50R does not have, such as the 3 way tilt screen, a tiltable and ultra large EVF, top LCD screen and more.

And after months of buzz only around the Fujifilm GFX50R, I decided to decdicate a roundup to the Fujifilm GFX50S only.

And at the bottom you will find a few images from our gigiantic Fujifilm GFX facebook group.

Venus Optics Laowa 17mm f/4 Zero-D for Fujifilm GFX to be Launched in March

Laowa 17mm F4

At my photokina visit in September 2018, I could not miss to visit one of the rising stars in the lens industry, Venus Optics.

Their Laowa 9mm F2.8 Zero-D lens ended up being the best selling lens 2018 here on FujiRumors. Check out top 3 selling lenses, cameras and overall camera gear in this dedicated article.

At Photokina, I also had the opportunity to handle the Laowa 17mm f/4, the widest G-mount lens for the Fujifilm GFX system.

Well, I have to inform you that the wait for this lens will be a bit longer than expected, since we have been informed (thanks), that the Laowa 17mm f/4 Zero-D GFX will come in March 2019.

I did share a hands on video of the Laowa 17mm f/4 Zero-D as well as hands on images and specs already.

I remind you that Venus Optics also offers the Laowa Magic Format Converter for Fujifilm GFX, which allows you to adapt your Canon and Nikon full frame lenses onto the Fujifilm GFX without any vignetting.

Fujifilm GFX100 Gets Rid of (Marked) Dials, a Good Idea? VOTE NOW

Fujifilm GFX100 Dials

At photokina 2018, Fujifilm displayed the first mock-up of the Fujifilm GFX100 Megapixel camera, which will be announced in the first half of 2019.

And it could not pass unnoticed to the FR-community, that the Fujifilm GFX100S got rid of the shutter dial, leaving only one unmarked and customizable dedicated dial on the left side.

This change has let to some heated (but civil) discussions at our Fujifilm GFX group here, with the community split between those, who applaude this change, and others, who think Fujifilm should have kept their classic dial layout.

Here are some of the comments from this post:

  • Bigger screen – less dials
  • Bigger back panel – less clunky top plate
  • Its the reason I use Fuji, without I might as well just switch to a different brand
  • Oh please get rid of those useless dials
  • I do like the iso dial. It shortens the iso changing from three steps to one. (I work in the dark, so have to press the lcd light on before pressing the iso button, then adjusting the dial to the right iso)
  • Top dials need to stay
  • I love my dials, but if they made some small buttons with iso/af/wb/etc, I would be able to live with one wheel and no dials
  • Dials are much easier to operate then digging into 2 or 3 level menues

So what do you think? Is it a good move to minimize the amount of dedicated dials and offer only one unmarked dial, or would you prefer to keep the current ergonomics of the Fujifilm GFX 50S?

And wouldn’t that big top LCD be nice, if it was a touch screen? ;)
