CONFIRMED: Fujifilm X100VI Announcement on February 20 (and More?)

So Fujifilm just officially announced the next Fujifilm X Summit for February 20.

And according to our sources, for sure we will get the Fujifilm X100VI on February 20.

Will we get even more?

Well, at the moment I don’t know it. But what I know is that Fujifilm has LOTS of stuff in the pipeline for the first months of 2024.

In fact, we confirm: Fujifilm will announce more cameras in the first months of 2024 than in the entire year 2023. Which means “3 or more” cameras.

We also told you that the successor of this camera here is the next MILC camera to be launched, as we reported here.

And last but not least, we already leaked the images of the next XF lens that Fujifilm will launch, which will be the replacement of this lens here. If you want you can see the images here plus read additional specs here.

Finally, there are lenses on the official Fujifilm roadmap for 2024 and other gear that could come (but we don’t really have solid rumors about them for now). We shared a big Fujifilm 2024 overview here.

I will try to figure out exactly what will come.

But for sure I can tell you now: the Fujifilm X100VI is scheduled for February 20 announcement.

Fujifilm X100V Discontinued at Several Stores: Giving Up on X100V Delivery and Getting Ready for Fujifilm X100VI?

Fujifilm Gives Up on X100V

Japanese stores are usually the first to mark items as discontinued or in general giving us indications on what’s happening with certain gear.

The X-T4, X-E4, GFX100, XF56/F1.2 and much more gear got first marked as discontinued in Japan before anywhere else on the world.

And today we get another significant hint: many stores in Japan have now completely delisted the Fujifilm X100V from their stores, such as Map Camera, Bic Camera, and Yodobashi Camera. Some stores mark it as “we finished sale“.

It looks like Fujifilm has at this point just given up delivering all those Fujifilm X100V people have still on order, at least in Japan.

And it’s not the first time: the same thing happened with the Fujifilm X-E4, where lots of people had one on order, patiently waited to get it shipped, but then out of nowhere Fujifilm canceled all orders and discontinued the X-E4.

The Last Samples

In USA the Fujifilm X100V is still listed at stores.

At Amazon you can find some samples in stock (at the time of this post), but at a higher price.

But I guess it won’t take long at this point that also US stores will mark the Fujifilm X100V as discontinued.

A Bad Move?

The X100V is huge missed opportunity for Fujifilm. They could have made tons of money with it, but just were incapable of manufacturing enough sample to meet even a small fraction of its massive demand.

To me it looks like Fujifilm just gave up on shipping the X100V at this point.

My guess (not rumor) is that they decided to use all the parts they have still available for X100V and re-use whatever they can of those pieces for the manufacturing of the Fujifilm X100VI (for example the lens, which is the same on both cameras).

I am not sure this is a smart move: I mean, give up on lots of money you can make right now in the hope to make money with another model in future. The best solution would have been to just finally solve that chronic parts issue, which other manufacturers seem to have fixed but Fujifilm still struggles a lot with.

Why “Fujifilm X100VI” is Best Name for the New X100 Camera

Fujifilm X100VI – The Best Choice

So we told you that the successor of the Fujifilm X100V will be called Fujifilm X100VI.

Now, according to our survey, 80% of you thought that other names would have been more appropriate.

And you know what?

I agree that Fujifilm could have been more creative with the name. And certainly they had lots of creative options on the table.

My new favourite (as suggest by a FR-reader): X100-00S, where “00S” stands for “out-of-stock” :).

But why did they go with “Fujifilm X100VI” then?

Well, because at the end of the day, from a business (and not creative) point of view, it’s by far the best choice.

Let me tell you why.

It’s Christmas time. Time for wishlists and dreams.

And here on FujiRumors this means wishing and dreaming of gear that, if not this year, Santa Claus will hopefully make find us under the Christmas tree for 2024.

So here is a selection of wishes that I have received from FujiRumors community and that I now I am happy to share with all of you. Feel free to let us know if there is something among it that you’d really love to get.

I sort of made my own wishlist too, where I talk about three cameras that would push Fujifilm overnight exactly where they dreamed to be by 2019. Dear Fujifilm, listen to me, and Canon, Sony and Nikon will tremble!

Feel free to read (and watch) it all down below.

We told you that the next Fujifilm X Summit will take place on February 20, 2024.

I thought it could be nice to see what your top wish is as far as announcements goes.

So I took all the Fujifilm gear listed on our Fujifilm 2024 overview and made a survey out of it.

To be clear, I am not saying that everything in this list will come in 2024. Some of it will come for sure, some of it has only been vaguely hinted by Fujifilm managers, and some are just mere wishes and hopes of the FujiRumors community.

To see more in detail which gear will surely come, which maybe, and which one probably not, check out our full Fujifilm 2024 overview article.

With that said, now drop your vote :).

Message to Anonymous Source who Just Shared X100V Successor Rumors with Me – UPDATE

To Readers: A few hours ago I received a message from an anonymous source. It came to me via rumor box, so I have no idea, who it is and how to contact it. My only way to contact the source is via FujiRumors. I hope you don’t mind, but making a public post is the only way to reach out to the source.

UPDATE: The source contacted me. Thanks a lot for that… and thanks to you readers for your understanding

TO THE SOURCE:

Thanks a lot for sharing the X100V successor rumors with me.

I’d love to ask you a few more questions, and also possibly exchange some information, but for obvious reasons I can’t do it publicly via FujiRumors.

If you want to have a more direct and confidential talk, here is what you could eventually do:

  • contact me via private message on Facebook, Twitter/X or Instagram
  • contact me via email at fujirumor@gmail.com (you can use a fake email if you want, but after 11+ years of rumor-blogging, I can guarantee you that you’ll remain 100% anonymous also if you’d decide to use your regular email)

If you decide to contact me, you can be sure that you’ll remain 100% anonymous.

If you decide not to contact me, feel free to keep using the rumor box if you want to share anything more. But if you want you can give yourself a nickname, so I can identify you thanks to it.

If you decide not to contact me via personal message and not to use a nickname, absolutely no problem. Feel free to keep using the rumor box 100% anonymously in case you want to share further information.

If we won’t be able to talk confidentially in private, for any eventual further communication with you I will share updates to this very same article.

Thanks again,

NOTE: to another source, who also contacted me today with X100V successor rumors, but this time using a nickname, the same is valid for you.

I was WRONG about Fujifilm X100V Successor – RUMOR CORRECTION

The X100V Successor – I Was Wrong

Long I have thought how to give you this information.

I thought: maybe I should give you some behind the scenes. Explain. Give you some context. So you would understand why I wrote what I wrote a few months ago.

But at the end of the day it all does not matter.

What matters is that what I told you from a beautiful spot in the Dolomites a few months ago, is now no longer accurate, hence wrong.

All I need to do now is to:

  • offer you my apology (which I hope you’ll be gracious enough to accept)
  • share a rumor correction

My apology is offered to you. Now I owe you the rumor correction:

We confirm that the Fujifilm X100V successor will come in early 2024. That’s rocksolid and I will never correct or change that rumor.

But, unlike we told you here, it will not come with a new lens. And that’s not a bad thing at all, considering that that lens has just been updated with the X100V, so it’s definitely a modern lens.

That’s it. I’ve done it.

Oh…

one more thing.

In the recently “leaked” list of Fujifilm gear (that contains many errors), one of the specs listed was that the X100V successor would also have OIS (optical image stabilization). Since the X100V successor will have the same lens of the X100V, this means that it won’t have OIS.

There are still many more corrections to be done to that list. Here are the ones done so far.

Don’t forget to…

I FEEL LUCKY AND WILL CLICK THE LINKS BELOW TRUSTING I WILL FIND THE X100V IN STOCK

Fujifilm Manager: The End of Entry Level (X-E line?), X100V Successor, APS-C and GFX Full Frame Alternative, Market Share and More

The French website Phototrend had the opportunity to interview Franck Bernard, Director of the imaging division at Fujifilm France. You can read the full interview here and the summary below.

  • Fujifilm GFX100II and the new GF lenses were well received
  • Fujifilm’s strategy is to grip full frame between their APS-C and Medium Format bodies
  • When asked if X-H2S is popular among sports photographers, the manager said that the road is long. It’s not only a question of having the best product, but also of having the entire ecosystem
  • Overall market share in France? As far as hybrid cameras goes (full frame excluded), Fujifilm is market leader with 26% over the last 12 months
  • X-T5 is the best seller followed by X-T30II and X-S20/X-S10
  • the photo market is sustainable and will always remain so
  • smartphones accelerate the demand for cameras because at some point people will want to use a real camera for better quality
  • it’s too early to talk about an X100V successor
  • It has now been 3 years since the X100V was released and Fujifilm does not have a fixed renewal cycle forcing them to change bodies every three years
  • the demand for X100V is still high
  • If we have decided to stop entry-level products such as X-T200 or X-E4, it is because it is not promising as a market
  • but Fujifilm wants to keep more affordable models in the lineup (see X-T30)
  • third party lenses can have negative effect on Fujinon lens sales, but Fujifilm thinks they have the quality to compete with Sigma, Tamron and Co
  • Fujifilm is neutral in regards to third party lenses. They don’t oppose nor push them and they respect them

I’d like to make some considerations.

Fujifilm X-E Line

The French manager hinted that they dropped the X-E line, but that pretty much does not fit with the hints recently a Japanese Fujifilm manager gave us here. And also Fuji Guy Billy mentioned here the X-E line as a line that would continue (unlike X-T***, X-A* lines, which btw were just Fujifilm branded Xacti cameras since a long time anyway, as we reported here).

Fujifilm X100V successor

No, it’s not too early to talk about it.

Third party Lenses

The French Fujifilm manager said they are neutral towards third party lenses. Although I remember Fujifilm managers inviting Sigma managers and talking about Sigma lenses for example here. So this gives me the impression Fujifilm is quite positive overall towards third party lenses.

The French manager said they think they have the quality to compete with third party lenses. This depends. The newest third party lenses from Viltrox & Co are quite phenomenal for the price. Maybe here and there they might not match the quality of the top of the line most modern Fujinon XF lenses, but there are quality options also from third parties.

The real and most important factors, for me, to use as much as possible native Fujinon lenses are two:

  • lots of third party lenses do not have an aperture ring
  • color consistency among Fujinon glass. And since a Film Simulation are a big deal for me, I like Velvia & Co to look consistent across the various lenses I use. There are for example third party lenses, like my manual focus Samyang 12mmF2, that are very lovely, but the colors they give me are not the ones I consistently get with my Fujinon lenses.

These are for me the two main reasons why I mostly stick with Fujinon XF and GF glass, although I own third party lenses for both systems, too.
