The (Late) Rise of the Fujifilm X-T5 and the Definitive Success of Vintage-Camouflaged Modern Cameras

Just recently Fujifilm started to take orders again on Fujifilm X-T5 in Japan. Not all combos, but better than nothing.

And we saw: the Fujifilm X-T5 instantly jumped into the top selling camera ranking on MapCamera.

Well the same thing is happening at Kakaku, which is a pretty popular shopping aggregator in Japan.

At Kakaku, the Fujifilm X-T5 has climbed the ranking up to the second spot, beaten only by the Nikon Zf.

I own the Fujifilm X-T5 myself and it is a camera I can blindly recommend to everyone. It’s Fujifilm at the next level and a huge upgrade over my Fujifilm X-T4 (which I have sold)!

And quite frankly in my opinion the X-T5 is still vastly the better pick over the Nikon Zf for the reasons I’ve explained here.

The success of the Nikon Zf and Fujifilm X-T5 shows that it pays off for companies to make vintage-styled high performing modern cameras.

Which is why I don’t understand why Fujifilm is no longer offering a retro-styled GFX camera. I am sure such a camera would become an instant best seller.

Oh well, let’s hope in the Fujifilm GFX100SII, which should come pretty soon according to our sources.

Vote Your Top (Realistic) Fujifilm Kaizen Firmware Wish

Kaizen Dreams

Time to launch our first survey of 2024.

And I thought we make it Kaizen firmware poll.

Now, I am well aware that in terms of firmware requests there could be endless possibilities. So guys, feel free to unleash your firmware wishes in the comments.

But for the purpose of this article I decided to keep the survey as small and “realistic” as possible.

This means I will include in the survey only features that Fujifilm has already implemented on some of their 5th generation cameras, but not all of them.

We are talking of the fully automatic subject detection mode present in this little and lovely Fujifilm camera and a couple of features present only on Fuji’s most high end camera.

It’s a total of seven features that hopefully will find its way also on the Fujifilm X-T5, Fujifilm X-H2 and Fujifilm X-H2S.

NOTE 1: I think all features above are pretty clear. Maybe only “custom focus zones” could create some confusion, so here is an extract of the GFX100II owners manual (vs X-T5), so you know what is meant.

NOTE 2: I have no rumors about future Fujifilm firmware updates (sadly).

NOTE 3: I think that articles like this one can help to push Fujifilm to release more firmware updates if….

  • many of you vote the survey
  • many of you comment down below

So, vote and comment as much as you can :).

I picked my top wish already and it’s this one!

I would like to get via firmware update (max. 2 selections)

Fujinon GF30mmF5.6 T/S and GF110mmF5.6 T/S Pre-Orders Now Open also in Japan

We recently reported how Fujifilm has huge problems to deliver their recently announced Fujinon GF tilt shift lenses.

But now maybe we got a little good news.

Fujifilm has decided to finally allow pre-orders also in Japan for those lenses.

I hope this means that the shortage is slowly ending that Fujifilm will be able to ship it in larger number soon.

UNORDERABLE: Amazon Cancels Current Fujinon GF30mmF5.6 T/S Order, Most Samples Go to Rental Houses?

Some FR-reader got a notification from Amazon, that their Fujinon GF30mmF5.6 Tilt Shift orders have been canceled. A FR-reader also passed me the following information he has received from Amazon.

Due to a lack of availability, we will not be able to obtain the following item from your order. We’ve canceled the item and apologize for the inconvenience.

The reader then wrote me:

Since my Amazon order was canceled, I’ve been looking for anyone who would take an order and put me in the queue. I got a message from Camera West that repeated the “only a handful coming to the US each month,” but added that those are all going to rental houses. Sales to consumers won’t start until June at the earliest.

At the time of this post you can’t order the Fujinon GF30mm f/5.6 T/S on Amazon anymore at Amazon.

Other stores like BHphoto here and Adorama here have not (and will not) cancel your order. But certainly it looks like you have to arm yourself with lots of patience.

It looks like we are just about to experience yet another of those wonderful Fujifilm-unique stories, where they are not able to ship gear they have announced for many many months.

One could start thinking that Fujifilm is having a “Kickstarter” approach, where they first look at how many orders come it, and then start the production accordingly. But let’s think “positive” and just say that Fujifilm vastly underestimated the demand for that lens.

What’s your experience with the GF30mm Tilt Shift? Did you get it shipped?

In the video above (click and it starts automatically at the right point) I address my biggest disappointment of 2023 (and my biggest hope for 2024)

My Biggest Fujifilm Disappointement of 2023

It’s Christmas time.

We get all more kind, more gentle, we show how much we love each other and…

… forget about it…

Not in the mood for that today.

Today I want to moan, to complain and to unleash my biggest Fujifilm frustration 2023 towards the Fujifilm headquarter of Japan.

Here it is.

Dear Fujifilm,
