Fringer EF-FX AF Adapter Eye Tracking tested on Fujifilm X-T3 with Canon 600mm F4 and Sigma 18-35mm F1.8

Fringer EF-FX AF

Fringer just upload a video on his youtube channel (video above), showing the Face/Eye detection tracking using the Fujifilm X-T3 with Canon EF600/4L II adapted via Fringer EF-FX AF Autofocus smart adapter with firwmare ver. 2.50.

As you can see, the eye/face AF works really very well in his video demo. He writes:

To my surprise it works incredibly well on X-T3 when doing AF-C tracking. I set X-T3 to AF-C mode, CH (11 fps) and Face/Eye detection on. The focusing object is a person riding a electric motorcycle moving fast towards the camera.

30 pictures were taken in less than 3 seconds. The focus areas were cropped at 100% scale and combined to the following picture

“I also tested video mode Face/Eye tracking. Thanks to the great improvements of PDAF performance and coverage of X-Trans IV CMOS, both still and video mode works very well.

The new firmware ver 2.50 for Fringer EF-FX AF smart adapters will be out soon, and it will add support for Canon EF600/4L II.

Fujifilm X-T3 Uses 26 Megapixel BSI Sony Sensor as Listed at Sony

Fujifilm X-T3 Sony Sensor

Recently a Fujifilm manager said here, that the sensor inside the Fujifilm X-T3 is not a Samsung sensor.

And yet, some people were still sceptical, especially considering that Sony does not offer any 26 megapixel BSI sensor.

Well, this argument seems to be gone now, since, as spotted by mirrorlessrumors, Sony updated its sensor page and we can now find the IMX571 26 megapixel BSI sensor listed on their website here.

Comparing it to the sensor of the upcoming Fujifilm GFX 100 (also listed at Sony) we can see both, the APS-C and MF sensor, have the same pixel size (3.76).

Keep in mind that Fujifilm officially said the GFX 100 will have 102 MP. This indicates that the GFX 100 has the same X-T3 sensor technology (except for X-Trans CFA), just about 4 times bigger.

We have already documented in this article, that sensor stitching happens already with the Fujifilm GFX 50S.

If the Fujifilm X-T3 had IBIS, would You Prefer it over the Fujifilm X-H2?

Fujifilm X-H2

Recently we launched an interesting poll (almost 7,000 votes), where we could see that most FR-readers are waiting for the Fujifilm X-H2 and hence did not buy the Fujifilm X-T3.

But I wonder, is it only because the Fuji X-H2 will have IBIS, or do you simply overall prefer the ergonomics of the Fujifilm X-H2 over the Fuji X-T3?

Well, let’s try to find it out with todays’ survey.

So, imagine the Fujifilm X-T3 would have IBIS, and hence be equal to the Fujifilm X-H2 in terms of specs, and the only difference between the X-T3 and X-H2 would be the ergonomics, which one would you buy?

As a FR-reader told me, the same questions has been shared at dpreview here, but the poll there did get only 59 votes.

The unique thing about FujiRumors (and the reason why Fujifilm does read this website and your comments), is that FR brings together the by very far largest group of Fujifilm X and GFX shooters, hence polls always get a few thousands of votes within a single day and the comment section is always very lively.

So let’s try to launch the survey here on FR. Feel free to vote it down below.

Fujifilm X-T3 High ISO “Equivalent to Some of my FF cameras” says Steve Huff and Canon EOS R vs Fuji X-T3 Dynamic Range Comparison

Fujifilm X-T3 vs Canon EOS R

Photons to Photos has published their Canon EOS R dynamic range test results. The Fujifilm X-T3 keeps up very well with Canon’s latest full frame camera. You can manipulate the chart here.

Fujifilm X-T3 High ISO

DPReview recently added their conclusions regarding Fujifilm X-T3 image quality to their ongoing review.

They say that at very high ISO, the Fujifilm X-T3 performs worse than the Fujifilm X-T2 (using Adobe, which has no final X-T3 support yet). Using Capture One things change a bit, but the difference is still there between X-T3 and X-T2.

This kind of does not fit well with what I have often heard in real life reviews by X-T3 users so far, who say low light performance is improved (the latest is Steve Huff, see below). So what’s happening?

Well, we have already noticed and shared here, that:

Fujifilm X-H2: Are You Waiting for X-H2 to Upgrade/Switch or Did you Get the Fujifilm X-T3 Already? POLL

Fujifilm X-H2

After the announcement of the Fujifilm X-T3, I get countless emails, asking me when the Fujifilm X-H2, Fujifilm X-Pro3, Fujifilm X-T30, Fujifilm X-E4, Fujfiilm X100V or Fujifilm X200 with latest X-Trans sensor 4 and X Processor 4 will come.

I am working on this, and I will post updates on FR as soon as I can. So make sure not to miss them by following us on Facebook, RSS-feed, Instagram, Youtube and Twitter.

One of the guys, asking me about the Fujifilm X-H2 is FR Sacha, who wrote me:

What would you think of running a poll to get a feel for the interest with the Fujifilm X-H2?

More specifically to have an idea of how many users didn’t upgrade to the X-T3, and are actually waiting on the Fuji XH2. This is something I see come back a lot in the comments of the X-T3 reviews so I’d be curious to see what a poll would look like. It could even motivate Fujifilm to hasten the X-H2’s release date, after seeing the results of the poll :)

One note: I feel people waiting on the Fujifilm X-H2 are actually mostly non-fuji users who want to switch to Fuji but maybe are still on the fence and would like the “whole package” with IBIS to really switch. So maybe the results for Fuji users could be a bit less in “favor” of the X-H2.”

And since your participation, ideas and contributions are the heart and soul of this blog, I will be happy to take Sacha’s advice and make a poll out of it.

Check out the poll below… and read the options carefully ;)

Adobe Releases DNG Converter 11.0 with Fujifilm X-T3 Support

Adobe DNG Converter 11.0

Another day, and another breaking news here on fujirumors.com ;).

Adobe has just released the DNG Converter 11.0 with support for the Fujifilm X-T3. You can download it for Windows here and Mac here.

Thanks to the DNG converter, it is now possible to convert X-T3 RAW files to DNG and work with them in Lightroom.

Another workaround to finally edit your Fuji X-T3 RAW files in Adobe, is to get Iridient X Transformer and convert X-T3 files to DNG using Iridients superior X-Trans demosaicing.

And if you consider leaving Lightroom, Capture One 11 now offers a standalone Fujifilm version.

Fujifilm X-T3 vs Sony A7III Video High ISO and Exposure Recovery Tests

Fujifilm X-T3 vs Sony A7III

The Fujifilm X-T3 has great video specs, that put it at the very top of the mirrorless cameras for shooting videos.

And also when it comes to dynamic range and high ISO, the Fujifilm X-T3 performs admirably. In fact, the Fujifilm X-T3 has better dynamic range when shooting video than the full frame Sony A7sII, as Cinema5D measured here.

Also, as video-guy Jordan from DPRTV said in the X-T3 review we shared here, that the X-T3 colors and skin tones are just something easy to fall in love with.

Now also LensProToGo published his Fujifilm X-T3 video high ISO and video exposure recovery tests. You can see it down below.

I have also added the same test he did for the Sony A7III, so you guys can compare them. Overall, the Fujifilm X-T3 keeps up greatly against its full frame competitor.

You can read his findings and see all 3 videos down below.

Fujinon XF8-16mmF2.8 vs XF16mmF1.4 and XF200mmmF2 on Fujifilm X-T3

Fujinon XF8-16mm F2.8 & XF200mm F2

During my stay at photokina 2018, I had the priviledge to test out the Fujinon XF 8-16mmF2.8 as well as the XF 200mmF2.

I could not really put those lenses through its paces, since I could only test them out at Fuji’s touch & try corner, but even during my short flirt with them, they didn’t fail to impress me (I used them both on the Fujifilm X-T3).

Yes, theĀ XF 8-16mmF2.8 andĀ XF 200mmF2 are not a bargain, but as they say, “you get what you pay for“. Enough said ;) .

Reviews about the XF 8-16 and XF 200 are not easy to find on the web and we will have to wait for them to be available in October/November, to see more of them.

We did share a major roundup a few weeks ago here, and here are some tidbits, including a quick comparison between the Fujinon XF8-16mmF2.8 and XF16mmF1.4, which is arguably one of the top three primes in Fujifim’s entire lens lineup.

You will find blog posts and videos down below:
