Recently our Top Trusted Japanese source said that the Fujifilm management already gave Green Light for the development of the digital interchangeable lens Medium Format Fuji camera. Moreover, a New Source told us it will be presented at Photokina 2016 (end of September).

So, according to our Japanese Source, it’s actually not true, what Fuji Manager Takeshi Ueno said: “At the moment Fuji is not planning to launch a medium format camera […] not everyone in the company is quite as convinced to make it.”

Of course you should trust our long time Top-Trusted Japanese source ;) .

Now, the Medium Format rumor is for sure very exciting, but I’m afraid that such a camera will be too expensive, at least for me. So I’ll happily stuck with my amazing APS-C cameras and phenomenal Fujinon lenses.

But what about you? Are you interested to purchase a Medium Format Fujifilm Camera with interchangeable lenses? And if yes, how much would you pay for it?

So here is the Poll… and it is for sure one of those polls, Fuji will discuss at the next management meeting ;) . So feel free to give your honest feedback and let Fuji know.

Recently, Fuji Manager Takeshi Ueno said here, that Fuji is investigating the Medium Format camera, but there are no concrete plans for now to make it, since “not everyone in the company is quite as convinced to make it.”

I’ve contacted our Top Trusted Japanese Source, and asked for clarification… and its answer is clear:

The Source said that the Digital Medium Format Fujifilm (with interchangeable lenses) already got Green Light from the Management.

Yep, the Medium Format Fuji will come!

– – -End of the trusted rumor… and you can forget the Grain of Salt this Time :) – – –

But there is more.

I’ve been contacted by a New Source (thanks for sharing :) ), who told me that the Digital Medium Format Fujifilm Camera should be presented to the world at Photokina 2016 (late September). And yes, this time you guys have to Take it with a Grain of Salt.

So this seems to be Fuji’s future: an amazing & mature APS-C system + a Medium Format System… 2016 could really be a great Fuji Year.

And if priced somewhere between the Pentax 645D and the Pentax 645Z this camera could be a real winner for Fujifilm.

After many hours of extreme X-Pro2 live blogging, I finally found the time to go through some of the plethora of first looks published about the X-Pro2… and each one is triggering my GAS more and more.

One of these was an interview with Fuji Manager Takeshi Ueno at bjp-online. The talk was about the X-Pro2, but at the end the journalist asked about Medium Format (rumored here), and Takeshi Ueno answered:

We are in a very good position to make a medium format camera, as we make camera bodies, sensors and lenses. We already make the lenses for Hasselblad, so we have that expertise.

At the moment Fuji is not planning to launch a medium format camera, but we are conducting research and testing sensors in this area.

We have a good history in the medium format market, and I think we would be successful again. We have the technology to make a very modern and high quality camera, but right now we are only investigating.”

At the end the journalist said:

Ueno agreed that now would be a very good time for Fuji to enter the market, but it seems that not everyone in the company is quite as convinced.”

Now add to this this rumor of one of our sources, who was right in the past, and we can start to be cautiously optimistic. In any case, if it ever becomes true, it probably won’t see the light that soon.

And just in case somebody at Fuji would be interested in our opinion (and you know they do, right?), then let’s say it in the comments and drop your vote in the Poll.

The Fujifilm X200 should have...

Fujifilm Medium Format Rumor: Here is the answer to one of the 7 Crucial MF Questions ! (Source Right in the Past).

 photo GGF_zps4jep7lta.png

The FUJIFILM GF670

Today we might have found the answer to the 2nd most voted of our 7 crucial Medium Format questions:

According to a source, who was right in the past (thanks), Fujifilm is right now putting lots of R&D into creating a complete new interchangeable lenses Medium Format camera system (so no fixed lens MF).

Of course, take the grain of salt. This is still Not really the Medium Format Rumor Breakthrough we are waiting for, since, until now, no trusted source confirmed that Fuji is really working on it!

And while I’m dazzled by this rumor, I know that a humble enthusiast photographer like me is probably not the target of such a camera, and it would be out of my budget anyway (not even tax deduction for teachers buying cameras :( ).

But I believe that an interchangeable lenses Medium Format Fuji could find its niche amongst PRO’s and turn out to be a profitable business for Fujifilm.

Now, I have no idea how much this camera would cost, but if it was priced somewhere between the Pentax 645D and the Pentax 645Z digital MF cameras, then the MF-Fuji might even become Fujifilm’s new golden egg laying goose (this, and the Hello Kitty Instax, of course :) ).

It’s hard to get on MF rumors, really hard… but it’s not a Mission Impossible. So stay tuned on FR via Facebook, RSS-feed and Twitter,

I’ll try to get a confirmation by trusted sources ASAP… since then, take the grain of salt, and then start dreaming :)

POLL: The Fuji X Future: Medium Format, Full Frame or stick with APS-C? Vote Now!

 photo Fuji Poll Empty_zpszetjwprf.jpg

*Fujifilm Reads You!
Click HERE to see the original FujiRumors Poll, that Fujfiilm used in an official presentation to the Press

APS-C line-up is (almost) complete

If you take a look at the eXcellent Overview over ALL existing and upcoming Fuji X mount lenses here, then you’ll see that with about 70 X-mount lenses available (or soon to come), we can not really talk of a lacking X-mount lens system.

Moreover, if the rumored lenses in Fuji’s roadmap will ever become true, then most of the needs of us X-shooters will be covered. At that point, the APS-C line-up can be considered almost complete.

The Poll

So the big question now is: once Fujifilm completed its APS-C line-up, should they offer a Full Frame sensor or a Medium Format sensor system in addition to its APS-C line-up? Or maybe none of the two and just stick with APS-C?

What would be the better choice for Fujifilm? Feel free to vote the Poll and drop your comment down below.

Medium Format X – Super Fast XF 33mmF1.0 – Fuji X-PRO2 :: 2015 Rumors Overview & Fact Check

 photo Cyristal Ball Empty_zpsh1g8dgp4.jpg

Here are the facts:

339 blog posts written (alone) so far in 2015
61 of them were rumors
out of 45 verifiable Rumors, 39 were correct (87% hit rate – which actually would have been even higher, if… well, check out the list below)
emails? I can’t count them… thousands?

Of course, I dream of a 100% hit rate, but I’m afraid that’s not possible. Over the years, hundreds of fake rumors have been send anonymously via rumor box. And no matter how much I work on it, an extremely small fraction of all the fake rumors will probably always make it on FR.

Moreover, here on FujiRumors I also share rumors about products that are still a long way off and Fuji can drop plans on those products (or change the release date) in any moment. So, a rumor that was actually right at the time of sharing, could become wrong, just because Fuji changed plans.

That’s a bit frustrating, and I sometimes think I should simply stop to post very early rumors. But overall I’m very satisfied with 87% correct rumors shared. Sure, the high hit rate won’t stop the permanent shitstorm on FR, but for sure not even a 100% hit rate would. Anyway, I got used to it after all these years ;).

Now, a part from the annoying bug fixes and occasional crashes of the site, the work on FR was mostly exciting (as the launch of the New Fuji X Forum and of the Fair Trade Fuji X Shirts – with over $2600 raised for charity) and I really had fun to dig up rumors about the X-series. I’ll try to keep it up and put my best into the rumors.

So let’s sum up all the rumors shared on FR so far this year (and also those shared in 2014 that still have to be verified), and categorize them according to their reliability.

Have a GREAT day,
Fuji X Forum, Facebook, Google+, RSS-feed and Twitter

– Sony A7000 APS-C sensor with BSI and 24 or about 30 MP, 4K, Phase detection pixels covering the whole sensor area

LOW RATING

– Fujifilm X-PRO2 coming “late 2015“ (rumor shared on January 13 2014. Probably right at the time of sharing, but Fuji delayed the release to 2016)
– X-PRO2 version with bigger sensor ( ≈ 1.3x crop), compatible with existing lenses
– Fuji working on bigger sensor camera. Some XF lenses already able to cover bigger sensor
– X-PRO2: available around “this time next year” with more than 16MP (the rumor was shared in late August 2014 by an anonymous source with nick name)
– X-PRO2 priced about 20% to 30% more expensive than the X-T1
– X-PRO2 will feature a dual SD card slot.
– X-PRO2 with tilt screen
– Sigma is looking at the X-system, but they still have to decide which lenses produce and when to launch them (shared 1 DEZ 2014. I nothing comes within fall, I’ll move it into the wrong rumor section).

WRONG RUMORS IN 2015

1. Fujifilm should present a flash system for X series at the CES
2. Lightroom with X-T1 tethered support coming in February (shared 8 January 2015) – NOTE: a plug-in for Adobe tethered shooting was announced in February, but since I said a dedicated Adobe solution will be “released” in February, I consider this a wrong rumor.

4. X-T1 Firmware 4.0 postponed form June 18 to June 22 (shared June 3) – [NOTE: this rumor has been confirmed on June 7th by a Fujifilm Manager here. But, at the end, what the Manager confirmed is also wrong, since the a trusted sources corrected the manager and said the date is the 25, then 29]
5. Fuji X-T1 Super-Firmware Ver. 4.0 to download on June 18th
6. Fujifilm Flash will come in spring 2015, guide no. 50 and wireless control (I’ve got feedback that the Metz insolvency forced Fuji to change plans, dealy the flash and to look for other partners).

Let’s Drop The RUMOR-BOMB: Fujifilm is forging a MEDIUM FORMAT CAMERA (Source Right in Past) – WITH POLL

 photo mf_zpslgutjvrb.png

 photo asd_zps8aefhfnl.jpg

I have the long expected “OK” from the source, and so here it is, the hottest rumor I’ve every published. Just sit down before reading ;).

A source, who was right in the past (!!) told me that Fuji is forging, in secret, a Master Medium-Format Camera! (as some of you correctly guessed at the brand new Fuji X Forum… but some other great ideas amongst it, too. Just read them here if you want)

I know you are dazzled just like me. But I still recommend you to take the grain of salt for 2 reasons:

1) the source was right in the past, but is not yet trusted.
2) the Medium Format Fuji release is everything else but imminent. This is the real crazy variable… I’ve seen Fuji too many times changing plans, even after having tested prototypes. So I’ll wait for a trusted source feedback to be 99% sure.

For these two reasons I’m just 75% to 80% sure for now that it will come… again: the release is everything else but imminent!

And before you start saying it’s the usual FR BS, I’ve just checked all the rumors shared so far in 2015… out of 37 verifiable rumors shared in 2015, 34 were correct so far (91% correct). I really try to be accurate, folks.

Now, this is just the very beginning of the Medium Format rumor. Will it be something similar in design and size like Fuji’s glorious GF670? Or will it have more a design of the Medium Format Pentax 645D? Work in progress ;)

stay tuned,

Between the X-T20 and the X-E3, I'd buy the...

THE INTERVIEW

Back at Photokina 2014, imaging-resource had a talk with Matt Schmitt and five Fujifilm engineers (but published it just recently). Of course the hot topics at that time were the 56mmAPD, the 5-stop IS in the 50-140, OLED EVFs with 5-millisecond lag and more. So it is mostly an interesting talk about the tech behind the new products. I’ll pick out just one aspect:

THE X-TRANS SENSOR & VIDEO QUALITY

As you all know, the unique CFA of the X-Trans sensor has the huge advantage to mitigate moiree in stills… an advantage that doesn’t apply to video, though.

Q: No moiré, yeah. But it also puts a lot of demands on processing, and our impression has been that the X-Trans works very well for still shots, but not so good for video. I’m assuming that’s because there’s so much processing to figure out the pixel pattern. Is that something that can improve as processors get faster? You know, if you have more processing power, is it then possible to get a better video image?

A: Video quality improvement: “In the future, our LSI will become faster and capable of more calculations, and maybe our movie image quality will also be able to improve. But it depends on not only this, but also on CMOS sensor reading speed.

FULL FRAME or MEDIUM FORMAT

Towards the end of the interview, imaging-resource could not resist to make the Full Frame question, and Fujifilm’s answer is:

We don’t need to go to full-frame size […] Huge prints are no problem for resolution and dynamic range or sensitivity, and at this moment we have no plans to go to full-frame. But of course we investigate the ability of full-frame or medium-format. Of course, we know. But at this moment, Fujifilm is concentrating on enhancing our X-mount APS-C lineup.

It sounds a bit like a standardized answer. But it’s interesting that, although IR just asked about Full Frame, the Fuji engineers mentioned also that they investigate the ability of a Medium Format system. A Freudian Slip?

I’d love to hear what you guys think about. So the question is, what should Fuji offer in future? Should they invest in a bigger sensor camera system or stick with APS-C (and invest in new APS-C sensor technology)?
