Fujifilm X-T3 firmware

Fujifilm recently released Fujifilm X-T3 firmware 3.20, which promises a noticeable improvement in face and eye autofocus.

If you are looking for feedback, take a loot at the 281 comments in our Fujifilm X-T3 firmware 3.20 article.

Now we have a first autofocus comparison between the Fujifilm X-T3 old vs new firmware.

The video is French by les-guides-fujifilm.com. Left side camera old firmware, right camera new firmware.

The video below starts at min. 8.06, which is where you can see both cameras tested side by side.

If somebody speaks French (sadly it’s not one of the 4 languages I speak), it would be great if you could quickly summarize in the comments what he thinks about the new firmware.

UPDATE: here is the translation from one of our readers (thanks)

  • face detection is generally better as it works with smaller (further away) faces, and is more reliable
  • multiple faces are also better handled than before
  • in difficult circumstance (such as somebody wearing glasses, face seen from the side, …) there seems to be no improvement.
  • with 56 XF strange results: new firmware seems to degrade the autofocus performance
  • with 16-80 XF there’s a general improvement
  • tracking remains a bit laggy, no real improvement vs previous version

Photons to Photos Dynamic Range Data: Fujifilm X-Pro3 Beats Fujifilm X-T3 and X-T30 – NOT :)

Photons to Photos added the Fujifilm X-Pro3 to their database, and you can now compare it to all other cameras in their database.

I did compare it to the Fujifilm X-T3 and Fujifilm X-T30, and the Fujifilm X-Pro3, despite having the same processor and sensor, shows a sensible advantage over the X-T3 and X-T30.

So has it better dynamic range?

Bill Claff explains:

The X-Pro3 appears to have improved PDR but it is an illusion.

It’s well known that Fuji implements the ISO setting in an unusual way.
In this case they have given ISO 320 to ISO 12800 an addition 1 stop boost.

Fuji uses a proprietary Exif tag called “Raw Exposure Bias” to indicate how much they have shifted the raw data from “standard”.

Adjusted in Excel for Raw Exposure Bias we see that the X-Pro3 and X-T3 are essentially identical. (They shift to dual conversion gain at a slightly different point).

You can access and manipulate the data here at Photons to Photos. Bill Claff’s comment has been added on dpreview.

Fujifilm X-T3 vs Sony A6600, Low Light X-T3 vs A7III Wedding Photography, X-T3 Water Resistance and More – X-T3 Roundup

The inevitable will happen: the Fujifilm X-T4 will ship within March, and this means that the time of dedicated Fujifilm X-T3 roundups will soon be over, and the X-T3 content will be moved to the general camera roundups.

But we are not yet there.

The Fujifilm X-T3 is still today the DPReview most recommended camera below $1,500 and at the same time the DPR camera popularity winner.

So, it’s still a beast of a camera, that will soon get even better, thanks to this firmware update.

Hence, here we have one more glorious Fujifilm X-T3 roundup for you.

The Fujifilm X-T4 will have a serious challenge: improve what is already very, very good. Let’s see if it will stand up to this task.

Fujifilm X-T4 G.A.S? These Fujifilm X-T3 Images will Help You to Resist to it ;)

Oscar Wilde once said:

The only way to get rid of temptation is to yield to it

But today we will prove him wrong.

We will display a series of stunning X-T3, X-T2 and X-T20 images, and show to Oscar that we don’t need a Fujifilm X-T4 to create stunning imagery.

Because no specs on the world can replace your feeling… and it’s a known fact, that feeling is the origin of your creativity and intuition.

30 Seconds Story of my Favorite Image

In the spirit of this post, do you want to hear the story behind my all time favorite image?

If you have 30 seconds… here it is:

I was in Cambodia (for my fair trade Fuji X T-shirts project), walking through an abandoned Casino in Bokor, with one of my very best friends.

I borrowed her my Fujifilm X-T1 camera, and she took a couple of snapshots.

At some point I saw some kids playing hide and seek in the building.

One of them hide behind a wall, waiting for his little friends to come up the stairs.

I noticed all this, and told to my friend “give me the X-T1, and I’ll grab the killer shot“.

She gave it to me, I placed myself in the right position… and waited.

And then it happened: the hiding kid leaned out beyond the wall, then suddenly watched down the stairs to see where his friends are. In that moment, I was ready and took the image.

I came home, printed it, and now I have it big on my wall.

And it was taken with a Fujifilm X-T1.

Call it luck, call it intuition. Whatever it was. It was nothing you can read on any specs paper.

So yes, let’s be happy about the Fujifilm X-T4, but also not forget, that what we own now, is plenty of good enough.

In the spirit of this post, enjoy the X-T image roundup below.

Fujifilm X-T3 Successor NOT to be Announced in January, but in February/March

Fujifilm X-T3 Successor

Hey guys,

today I’d like to add a further riddle to the rumor puzzle. ;)

As you know, there are currently two registered and unreleased Fujifilm cameras, the FF190003 and the FF190005.

We know that the Fujifilm X100V hides behind the codename FF190005, and that it will be announced in February.

So, after our recent reliable leak saying the Fujifilm X-T3 successor will ship within March/early spring, many of you thought that the FF190003 coming in January must be the Fujifilm X-T4 (or however the X-T3 successor will be called).

But nope, that’s not the case. The Fujifilm X-T4 (?) will not be announced in January.

We expect an announcement in February or March, depending if Fujifilm decides to announces both, X100V and X-T4 together, or maybe give them both a separate moment of glory.

What does this mean?

Well, this means that, soon, nokishita will spot another registration at some radio institute, and this time it will be for the Fujifilm X-T3 successor.

Looks like Fujifilm is going to give us an explosive start into 2020!

And stay tuned, as more is coming soon on FujiRumors only, of course ;).

BREAKING: Fujifilm X-T3 Successor Shipping in March/Early Spring 2020 – TRUSTED SOURCE

Fujifilm X-T3 Successor

Ok, let’s rock it!

According to our trusted sources, the Fujifilm X-T3 successor will start shipping in March/early spring.

This comes surprising, as if we take a look at the complete Fujifilm X cameras release timeline, if Fujifilm would have kept their usual X-T refresh-pace, it should have come around September 2020.

But this time Fujifilm decided to anticipate the release by half a year, replacing the glorious Fujifilm X-T3 just 1.5 years later.

Now, I do not know if it will be called Fujifilm X-T4, or Fujifilm X-T5 or Fujifilm X-T3s or whatever. What I know, is that it will ship very soon.

Oh, it’s from trusted sources, so you are not allowed to doubt this rumor, but you are allowed to share the good news… and of course quote and link FujiRumors as the source, don’t “forget” that ;).

And stay tuned… as more is coming soon on FujiRumors only, of course.
