Trusted Sources Says Ultimate X-series APS-C Camera will Cost Around $2,000 – $3,000 (POLL)

The Ultimate X

Hey guys,

today I have an update for you regarding the ultimate Fujifilm X-series APS-C camera.

A trusted source told me that previous rumors about this camera were correct. So it confirmed that:

  • Fujifilm is working on the ultimate X-series camera
  • It will indeed be Fujifilm’s most expensive camera in the APS-C line-up
  • X-Trans sensor
  • It will be Fujifilm’s best APS-C camera for video work
  • The camera is still under development, so the final price has not yet been set
  • It will be based on the X-T design

But here is the thing:

The very first rumor I got (and shared) about the “Ultimate X” camera came from a new source here. And after confirmations from trusted source, we can say it was very accurate and gave us many correct hints, except one: the price.

The new source said it would cost $5,000, but the trusted source today said, that the current estimated price for the “Ultimate X” is between $2,000 and $3,000 (depending on which features Fujifilm decides to implement or not).

Do you know what this means?

Since….

  • Fujifilm displays our polls to the press – read here
  • Your feedback can, in some cases, influence decisions of the managment regarding future products, such as the monochrome X-Pro – read here
  • Fujifilm took note of our big request for the X-E3 and said after our pressure that they “are aware of the many X-E3 requests” – read here
  • Top Fujifilm Managers read and “love” FujiRumors – read here

and since…

  • we are in an early development stage of the Ultimate X

… we all should do our homework now, and let Fujifilm know, how we would like the Ultimate X to be.

This is why I will launch a poll, which I will keep quite general for now. I will only ask you if you would like Fujifilm to put simply everything they can into the camera and charge us $3,000 for it, or maybe take out a some features and charge $2,000 for it.

And of course, feel free to elaborate in the comments, which specs exactly this camera should have for the price you would pay.

Needless to say, take such long term rumors always with a grain of salt and stay tuned for the latest updates with FujiRumors on Facebook, RSS-feed and Twitter

Fujifilm GFX Image Roundup

Hold on! Don’t say “Yet another GFX article” :) You can skip it if you want, and read the other two articles shared today, that are not (or not exclusively) GFX centric, like the X-E3 rumor here or the miXed zone here.

This post is just here to enjoy a tiny fraction out of the terrific amount of images shared over at our 11,000+ members strong GFX facebook group from all around the world. And the fact that they have been taken with GFX, is just secondary, compared to the beauty of the shots.

There is talent in the group, and I have the pleasure to share it with you :). So today, let’s see Madagascar, Italy, Russia and more through the eye of the GFX (also with a lot of adapted lenses)

Believe me, it costs me a ton of time to make these “image roundups”. But I am highly motivated to invest this time into it, because I know you guys appreciate that your images get the maximum visibility here on FujiRumors, and also because it’s a welcome break from the usual huge news/rumors stream here on FR.

But images are just one thing. The 11,000+ members of the group are also extremely helpful, ready to give you advice and feedback. You don’t believe me? Well, then you better join and check it out by yourself ;)

Fujinon XF 18-135 Delivery Delay: “Situation to be Resolved Around Summer” + Rediscovering my 18-55 and 55-200!

The Fujinon XF 18-135 has quickly become my favorite travel lens along with the XF23mmF1.4. Since the day I bought it, my XF18-55 and XF55-200 are more or less collecting dust.

Just in these days I was considering to sell the 18-55 and 55-200, but I said to myself: “first, use them again, shoot with them, then decide“.

So it’s a couple of days now that I run around only with my 18-55 and 55-200… and I start to appreciate them again so much, that I don’t want to sell them anymore. Especially the XF18-55 is just crazy for a regualar “kit lens”.

So for now I so much enjoy shooting with these “old” Fujinon lenses again, that I will keep them. But I guess, sooner or later, at least one of these three lenses has to be sold… I need money for this one :-) !

rediscovering my 18-55 and 55-200… and yep, I’m still rocking the good old X-T1… at least until this comes true ;)

But this post is about the XF18-135, since Fujifilm just issued an official press-release about a delivery delay… so if you want one, you better grab one now at AmazonUS, BHphoto or your local dealer (it’s already backordered at Adorama)

Here is the press release

Admiringlight X-T20 Review: “Short Cons List. Fantastic Camera” :: GFX (Adapting Glass) :: X100F & Kodalith Simulation (Kevin Mullins) – miXed zone

Admiringlight (one of my favorite reviewers on the web) just shared his full X-T20 review… and it’s a very positive one. As I already said, I think the X-T20 hits the sweet spot in the X-lineup, and is currently the camera with the best value for money… and not only in the Fuji world!

Here are Jordan’s Pros and Cons:

Pros

  • Solidly constructed body
  • Excellent control layout, with dedicated dials and programmable buttons
  • Clear, detailed and low-lag EVF
  • Excellent autofocus in both single shot and continuous mode, with wide AF point coverage and customizable continuous AF modes
  • Fully featured, with Wi-Fi connectivity, a built-in intervalometer, art filters, panorama stitching, multiple exposures and more
  • 24 Megapixel sensor has excellent dynamic range, great detail and reasonably low noise for an APS-C sensor
  • 8 fps burst rate with AF tracking and a deep buffer
  • Great manual focus aids
  • 4K Video
  • Excellent rear touch screen
  • Can charge through the USB port
  • Great electronic shutter capabilities, as fast as 1/32,000 second.
  • Excellent value

Cons

  • The grip is quite small, and combined with an imperfect rear thumb grip placement makes the camera handle awkwardly with larger lenses
  • EVF is smaller than some of the competition
  • Bracketing at +/- 2 stops for 3 shots only
  • Buttons on the top of the camera are a bit small and mushy.

The Most Underestimated Fujifilm Products? Vote Now!

Back in 2015, I wrote a trilogy about what I considered the 5 most underestimated Fujifilm products ever. You can read epsiode 1 here, episode 2 here and episode 3 here.

As I wrote in my first episode here, the trigger for that little mini-series was, that I realized I focused too much on the high-end stuff. However, Fujifilm has some awesome offerings also in the more affordable category, like my little XQ2. So I wanted to “make it good again” by dedicating a bit of my time and space here on FujiRumors to products, that, in my opinion, got way less attention then they actually deserved (like currently the Fujifilm X-T20, which, as I wrote here, hits the sweetspot in the X-world).

Now, in the last episode of my 2015 trilogy, I also launched a poll, to hear what you guys think are the most underestimated Fujifilm products. Sadly, due to a bug with the poll plug-in last year, I’ve lost all older surveys. Sh*t happens.

But let’s try to see the bright side of things and take this as an opportunity to launch a new and updated poll… and it’s high time, since Fujifilm launched quite some new products from 2015 to now.

My vote is in… feel free to drop yours :)

Fujifilm Working on the Ultimate $5,000+ APS-C X-Trans X-series Camera (also for Video) ** Grain Of Salt

Hey guys,

You might remember how recently a Fujifilm Manager saidwhen we announce our new telephoto prime [in 2018] we also need a higher performance body”.

What did he mean with “higher performance body“? The X-T3? Or maybe something completely different?

I’m not sure now… but I can tell you what I’m recently hearing.

Keep in mind… these are the first steps into a potentially very exciting rumor journey, but it’s just a fragile whisper at this stage, so please do NOT take this as a fact. I could follow a wrong hint, or maybe there is some truth in it…

Here is the thing:

I got some hints that Fujifilm is working on the ultimate X-series camera. It should be a camera that will top everything we know from Fujifilm so far in the APS-C world and it could also have some more cinema-centric aspects, that would make it the perfect companion for the newly announced MK18-55mm T2.9 and MK50-135mm T2.9.

I don’t know if the Manager quote above was refering to this camera, or “simply” to the X-T3. I’m still working on this.

However, one anonymous source shared some more details, telling me it should cost “around $5k” (or even more) and be still an X-Trans camera. (thanks for sharing… and I will investigate further the other details you sent me).

So guys, just follow FR, and let’s see how deep the rabbit whole really goes :-)

And of course, in case someone out there could help, please contact me at fujirumor@gmail.com or using the rumor box (with nickname if possible).

cheers

Fujifilm (Currently) Planing a Fujinon XF200mm F2 :: POLL – F2 or F2.8

Recently Fujifilm updated the roadmap, and shows for 2018 a ultra wide angle zoom (the rumored 8-16) and a telephoto prime lens.

An old rumor of over 1 year ago, shared by source, right in the past, said that on Fuji’s internal roadmap it is a 200mmF2 lens. Well, I got further indication now, that it is still currently planed as F2 lens.

However, as the source wants to make clear, these things can change very quickly at Fujifilm, since they are still investigating how profitable various options would be, so an F2.8 option is still on the table… as also a Fujifilm Manager also said here.

And as usual, when Fujifilm is in trouble, I know that you guys are always willing to help with your contributions… and we have multiple evidence that the Fujifilm Management not only reads us, but eventually also makes decisions based on your feedback.

So, here is a poll….

Of course, keep in mind, that if you vote for the 200/2, you will get a bigger and more expensive lens as opposed to the relatively smaller and more affordable 200/2.8. Each lens has its Pros and Cons… but vote only for the one you would buy.

I would buy a...

Fujifilm Manager: “We Investigate the Next Film Simulation :: Fujifilm Close to 20% Mirrorless Market Share :: More Video-Capable Camera”

This time it’s imaging-resource, who had a talk with a couple of Fujifilm Managers. Here some excerpts:

  • Current GF best sellers: the 63mm and the 32-64mm, with the demand for the zoom being “a bit higher than expected
  • Future GF lenses requests: a telephoto prime around 200mm focal length. A wide zoom, like a 15mm, a more ultra-super-wide zoom. A 70-200mm
  • Fuji thinks GFX owners are 50/50 split between professionals and high-end amateurs
  • Film Simulation: “Some want maybe AGFA or Kodak […] So now we are investigating what’s next.”
  • Mirrorless Market share of Fujifilm is close to 20% now [NOTE: it was 14%-15% last year. X-T2 and X-Pro2 raised the bar further]
  • 4K on X-Pro2: “Basically, we cannot upgrade the X-Pro2 because it’s a difference of hardware.” [NOTE: this does not fit with what Fuji Guy Billy said here]
  • We got a lot of requests from videographers that Fuji shooters should have more video-capable functionalities of the cameras…”
  • The biggest market for the X100 line is the USA.
  • Besides Instax, which is perceived as a new technology amongst young people, also the use of disposable cameras is increasing, because for “young customers […] it is kind of fun because they cannot see the result.”
  • Capture One will not support the GFX?: “We have a solution with Adobe Lightroom raw conversion. We also have our Fujifilm original Tether Shooting Plug-in PRO with Lightroom, which we just released from November with the X-T2 and of course the GFX. Its functionality is quite good.”

Fujifilm GFX Shooting Review :: GFX Profoto and Miltiblitz Support :: Full Size and ISO 4000 Samples

REVIEW

Shooting Review: Fujifilm GFX System at bigheadtaco youtube. Some considerations out of his 50 minutes long video:

  • EVF is laggy in dark conditions [EVF refresh rate of GFX is 50 fps]
  • EVF sticks out, which is great, since your face/nose hardly touches screen
  • impressed with JPEG’s also whet it comes to highlight/shadow recovery
  • Play and Delete button in an odd spot
  • 63mm AF a little bit slow
  • 32-64 Take’s favorite lens. In good light it rarely missed and very quite. A lot faster AF than 63mm
  • if you are currently shooting high-end DSLRs for weddings, portraits, studio and you are considering buying the GFX, the GFX is an awesome choice.

P.S.: Take has excellent contacts with Fujifilm, and in the video he mentions the X70S, with a vague hint “if that comes out soon“. He also mentioned a Rangefinder styled GFX (which was mentioned first by a Fujifilm Manager here)

RUMOR

I’ve shared the rumor of Profoto support for Fuji last year here. In the last weeks, we could already see many X-photographers using Profoto with their GFX. I also just got further indications, that Profoto, Miltiblitz and other important flash manufacturers are now or will soon work on the protocols that will add full support for the GFX. HSS up to 1/4000 should be possible.

Dear FUJIFILM, We Decided: These Are the 6 X-Mount Lenses You Should Make Next

The Future APS-C Lenses We Want!

You Guys Rock!!!

Over 10,000 of you voted in just 3 days at our ultimate “future X-mount lenses” Poll… as usual, you guys do not disappoint when it comes to giving Fujifilm your feedback :-)

Your open discussions and massive votes in polls make the FujiRumors Community an unmatched source of online user feedback for Fujifilm…. so no surprise that your suggestions and comments not only have already been publicy shown at offical Fujifilm press events, but have also influenced Fujifilm’s decisions.

So let’s continue this tradition of giving Fujifilm Managers our feedback, and share with them our top 6 APS-C lenses on the wishlist.

TOP 6 LENSES OVERALL

  1. Fujinon XF 8-16mm f/2.8 (26%)
  2. Fujinon XF 33mm f/1 (23%,)
  3. Fujinon XF 16-75mm f/4 (12%) * NOTE: there were also many votes (8%) for the XF15-90mmF4, which is quite similar. So overall we can say that a XF16-80mmF4 would get about 20% of the preferences, which is why I placed it on the 3rd position.
  4. Fujinon XF 35mm f/1.4 MK II (18%)
  5. Fujinon XF 18mm f/2 MK II (14%)
  6. Fujinon XF 105mm f/2 Macro (14%)

TOP 3 PRIMES:

  1. Fujinon XF 33mm f/1.0 (23%)
  2. Fujinon XF 35mm f/1.4 MK II (18%)
  3. Fujinon XF 105mm f/2 Macro (14%)

TOP 3 ZOOMS:

  1. Fujinon XF 8-16mm f/2.8 (26%)
  2. Fujinon XF 16-75mm f/4 (12%) * NOTE: there were also many votes (8%) for the XF15-90mmF4, which is quite similar. So overall we can say that a XF16-80mmF4 would get about 20% of the preferences.
  3. Fujinon XF 16-55mm f/2.8 MK II (10%)

Considerations… and that 33/1, C’mon Fuji!!!

The overall Top Wish, the 8-16/2.8, is on Fuji’s internal roadmap and should come after the 80mm according to this rumor. The official updated roadmap, released just a few days ago, mentions only an “ultra wide angle zoom” for 2018. So, well done, Fuji, you’ll make many of us happy :-)

Sadly, the XF33mmF1.0 has apparently been scratched, according to this rumor. Let’s just hope, that the overwhelming result this lens got in our poll will help Fujifilm to reconsider their position. C’mon Fuji… it’s clear we want that lens!!!

So, dear Fujifilm, we evidently want the 33/1 even more badly than the “telephoto prime lens” in your new roadmap (the 200mm is Nr. 14th on the wish list, with 8% of the votes). Sure, the 200 closes a gap in the line-up, but the 33/1 should have priority anyway… so says the X-community.

The XF18mmF2 MK II is another top wish, and, according to this rumor, it is indeed on Fujifilm internal roadmap, but not yet on the official one.

An honourable mention goes to the 18mm Tilt Shift lens, which is 9th out of 30 lenses, and would have probably gathered even more votes if it was a 14mm lens.

I have no information about the other top lenses lenses in your wish-list. If I hear anything, I’ll let you know on fujirumors.com…. and if anyone out there can help, well, you can use the 100% anonymous rumor box to contact me (would be great if you could use a nick name) or via email at fujirumor@gmail.com.

have a great weekend :) ,
