No 1″ Sensor Cameras for Fujifilm: “Market is Overcrowded”

Fujifilm X30… the last of its kind, as reported also by our Japanese source

Fujifilm 1″ sensor

I still get many questions about if Fujifilm will release an X30 successor with 1″ sensor.

Fuji Guy Billy already answered this question in a great TCSTV Fujifilm-centric live stream (as I reported quickly here), but I think it’s better to dedicate it an own article, to make sure nobody misses it (and I don’t get questions anymore via email ;) )

Billy was only active in the comments to the TCSTV live stream, so we can’t read his statements now… but since I was one of those guys commenting on the live stream, I could read his chat.

When somebody in the comments asked about Fujifilm offering a 1″ sensor camera, Fuji Guy Billy answered that “the 1″ market is overcrowded“.

So that does not really give us much space for hope, although an X40 with 1” sensor would have been nice I think, and could have competed with all the Sony RX100’s out there.

The TCSTV Fujifilm live stream is very interesting and includes even topics like the XF33mmF1.0.

Oh, and btw, if you ever wondered how a Fuji Guys reacts, when he discovers FujiRumors is listening, then check out min 13:23 of the video ;)

TCSTV Fujifilm X-E3 Review: “Excellent Focussing Camera. Definitely a Step Up over X-T20”

Must See 360° Fuji Live Chat

TheCameraStore already gave us some X-E3 tidbits in their recent Fuji Live talk with Fuji Guy Jerry. I warmly invite you to check it out here. They also cover topics like:

  • XF33mmF1.0
  • Fujifilm X-T2S with IBIS
  • + some other rumors shared here on FR in the past.

In my live stream report I included statements Fuji Guy Billy made in the comments.

And if you ever wondered…

Fujifilm X-E3 TCSTV review

TheCameraStoreTV just uploaded their Fujifilm X-E3 Review. Check it out and enjoy it. One of the most interesting aspects, is how the new AF tracking algorithm works… and it seems to be great.

  • AF tracking: Jordan played with it in low light and was impressed. Excellent focussing camera. Definitely a step up over X-T20.
  • great walk-around camera
  • when moving eye to EVF the X-E3 has a delay switching from LCD to EVF. Could be faster

TheCameraStoreTV Fujifilm Live Edition: XF 80mm Macro, X-E3 and More

What a coincidence… just when I had my babysitting break of 1 hour, TheCameraStoreTV started a live stream with Fuji Guy Jarry Julien.

So I could intereact with the show and also with prominent Fuji Guys like Billy, who was active in the comments. Btw, Billy said in the comments he thinks he saw me taking a picture of him at Photokina 2016. Yep, that’s the image… and I’ve found Waldo, too :D

Check out the video at TCSTV youtube channel here.

What’s Next from Fujifilm? Big 2017 / 2018 Rumor Overview and Check

Ok guys… after the major announcement a few days ago, it’s time to see what is left, and what was correct (or not).

but first….

Huge Thanks!

Fujirumors is not only a great source for Fujifilm to get feedback about their products and early feedback thanks to rumors, but also a place that keeps the whole community excited and informed. And none of this would be possible without everybody, who helped me with the rumors and the news. Huge thanks to all of you for guiding me safly through the stormy Fuji waters.

The Facts

  • 670 blog post published so far in 2017
  • 84 rumors shared in 2017
  • 14 rumors still to be verified (and 1 out of ranking)
  • 65 correct rumors out of 69 verifiable rumors
  • 4 wrong rumors out of 69 verifiable rumors
  • 94% correct rumors

What To Expect From Fujifilm…
… and 2 Notes

The Ultimate Fuji X: I know that this camera was in Fuji’s plans, and I know they scrapped it in favor or the Fujifilm X-T2S (which is basically an “ultimate X light”). However, I decided to already move the ultimate X rumors in the wrong rumor section, because I need a public statement of Fujifilm that such plans existed to share it as a correct rumor (as it happened with the X-Pro1s)… and also because otherwise the wrong rumor section would have been empty :)

Fujinon 33mmF1: In January, I reported that the 33/1 has been scrapped. As a consequence, I launched a huge lens request poll, where the 33/1 became the most voted prime lens by the FR-community. The results might have convinced Fujifilm to think about it again, as a rumor recently suggested. Hence you will find 2 rumors down below… the one that says the 33/1 has been canceled, and the one that says there is a little bit hope again.

Fujifilm Vision 2019: “We Work Toward Capturing No.1 Market Share in Premium Mirrorless Market” (Medium-Term Plan VISION2019)

Wow… now that’s an ambitious goal.

Fujifilm just published their new medium-term management plan, called VISION2019, covering a three year period from the fiscal year ending March 2018 (FY2018/3) to the fiscal year ending March 2020 (FY2020/3.).

And regarding their imaging division they write:

  • In digital cameras, work toward capturing No.1 market share in the premium mirrorless camera market, promoting the X Series that continues to evolve with outstanding image quality, fast speed and mobility, alongside the medium-format GFX Series that uses a large sensor, 1.7 times bigger than that of full-frame cameras, to pursue the pinnacle of image quality.
  • Reinforce the lineup of its highly reputable interchangeable lenses to continue to achieve increased revenues and profits in the mirrorless system business as a whole.
  • Broaden the lens business by expanding the lineup of 4K broadcast lenses, launched ahead of the rest of the world, as well as the lineup of lenses for the fast-growing new video production market, including online video.
  • With regard to the “INSTAX” instant camera and film, expand the sales of existing products and promote its square-format products for greater proliferation. Expand printing service solutions with added convenience, e.g. incorporating AI, to boost printing demand from smartphones to maintain the upward trend in profits.
  • FY2020/3 targets: 380 billion yen in revenues, 45 billion yen in operating income and 11.8% in operating income ratio

The competition is obviously very strong, especially from Sony, who are dominating, as we can also see from the AmazonUS mirrorless bestseller charts. But it’s good to see Fujifilm so confident about their present and future products, such as the sensor stabilizied Fujifilm X-T2S and of course the Fujifilm GFX 100S.

And you know what would sound really PREMIUM, too? That XF33mmF1.0!

Now, I want you to get quickly to the comments down below, so I won’t copy & paste the entire long press release here on FujiRumors. But if you want to read more, also about the medical, documents & co solutions and goals, check out the Fujifilm page here.

DPReview Fujifilm GFX 50s Review: “The Best Image Quality We’ve Seen to Date” (Gold Award)

DPReview just published their full Fujifilm GFX 50S review… and it get’s the gold award.

Here are the Pros and Cons

Pros Cons
  • 51.4MP, 44 x 33mm sensor yields high image resolution
  • Excellent image quality in both Raw and JPEG
  • ISO invariant behavior above ISO 1600 gives increasing amounts of highlight recoverability
  • Contrast Detect AF is accurate and precise
  • Fujifilm color science, and color chrome effect, in larger than APS-C size
  • Direct controls provide for engaging shooting experience
  • AF joystick + touchscreen makes selecting an AF point simple, effective
  • Touchscreen flips vertically and horizontally
  • Weather-sealing and solid build quality
  • Comfortable ergonomics
  • Plenty of custom buttons
  • Dual card slots give flexibility and capacity
  • Electronic first curtain shutter mode minimizes risk of shutter shock
  • Lack of mirror avoids mirror-induced shock other MF systems bring
  • In-camera Raw processing lets you make full use of excellent JPEG engine
  • Easy-to-use Wi-Fi
  • Slow native lenses do not take full advantage of camera’s sensor size
  • Contrast Detect AF speeds can be sluggish in moderate light, often fails in dim or backlit situations
  • No high speed flash sync
  • AF-C is virtually unusable due to constant hunting
  • Moiré is visible in fine detail and patterns
  • ‘Shimmering’ and moiré in the EVF when focus is initiated
  • Unduly rolling shutter in complete (silent) E-shutter mode
  • No way to link minimum shutter speed to focal length with Auto ISO
  • No ISO 100 during video capture
  • No dedicated exp. comp. dial
  • Rear dial can be difficult to turn due to its position
  • Limited lens selection at launch

They also say:

In principle, there’s a full frame camera that can match the Fujifilm in each of the specific areas in which it might be expected to excel: resolution, dynamic range and noise. […] However, if you aren’t pushing the camera to its limits in any of these respects, then the difference becomes negligible. The GFX’s greatest strength is its combination of all of these characteristics.

[…] And though it does offer the best combo of dynamic range, resolution and noise performance of any camera on the market, it only beats its full frame competition by a small amount.

[…] If Fujifilm truly wants to steal users away from Canon, Nikon and Sony (and they should), they’re going to have to get serious about a few things: releasing faster glass, improving AF, and packing the most modern sensor technologies that smaller formats provide.

[…] But ultimately, for successfully debuting a new system with an all-around lovely camera and the best image quality we’ve seen to date, the Fujifilm GFX 50S takes home the gold. “

What’s Next From Fujifilm? … and First 2017 Rumor Check (100% Correct Rumors)

Two or three times a year, I feel like I need to put a bit of order in the whirlwind of rumors, and give you guys a well-ordered overview of the rumors shared so far this year by FujiRumors.

It’s also the opportunity for me to check back the accuracy of all the rumors I’ve shared this year.

So high time for some facts:

  • 229 blog post published so far in 82 days (2017)
  • 36 rumors shared in 82 days (2017)
  • 12 rumors still to be verified
  • 24 correct rumors out of 24 verifiable rumors
  • 0 wrong rumors out of 24 verifiable rumors
  • 100% correct rumors

Sure, there are still 12 rumors that have to be verified, not all will be correct (because they are wrong or Fujifilm will change plans), but I’d say of the 12 remaining, I wouldn’t be surprised if most are correct.

A big hug goes to all sources, from the most anonmyous to the most trusted one, who decided to help me to find the right path in the fake rumor jungle and to put excitement in the Fuji world by sharing accurate rumors. You make being an Fuji shooter even more fun :-)

Also, thanks to everybody, who spotted some interesting Fuji related news/rumor/deal/review on the web, and took his/her time to drop me an email with the link to it. Much appreciated… and feel free to keep it up.

thanks to all,
