Fujifilm GFX Secret Roadmap: What We Got, What Changed and What is Still Missing

I just gave a quick look at the internal Fujifilm GFX roadmap FujiRumors leaked back in April 2017.

At that time, the internal Fujifilm roadmap considered the following lenses:

  • GF 250mm F4
  • GF 35mm F2.8
  • GF 20-36mm F3.5-4.5
  • GF 100-200mm F4.5-5.6

The roadmap, that you can see here, mentioned there will be “GF 20-36 or GF 100-200“.

Now let’s see what we got so far, what changed, and what’s missing:

What we got:

What we got, but changed a bit:

  • GF 100-200mm 5.6 (originally planed as f/4.5-5.6)
  • GF 30mm F3.5 (originally planed as 35 f/2.8)

What’s still missing:

  • GF 20-36mm F3.5-4.5

In June 2017, our sources then informed us, that the Fujinon GF 80mm f/1.4 has been added to the internal GF lens roadmap.

But also in this case, it took Fujifilm longer than expected to release it, mainly because of prolonged internal discussions, that ended up changing the lens from GF80mm f/1.4 to the one we find in the newest GF lens roadmap: the Fujinon GF 80mm f/1.7.

So what can we expect next?

Well, the current roadmap officially shows:

  • 2020 – Fujinon GF30mmF3.5 R WR
  • 2021 – Fujinon GF80mmF1.7 R WR

It’s strange Fujifilm didn’t add any tilt shift lens to the roadmap, because, if you remember the official Fujifilm G mount lens request survey, Fujifilm gave us only tilt shift lenses to vote on.

But as there will be surely at least one more G mount lens coming in 2021 (along with the Fujinon GF80mm f/1.7), maybe we could see one of these two options coming:

Let’s hope we will get both these lenses in 2021, in addition to the Fujinon GF80mmF1.7 R WR.

Fujifilm to Release 3 New X Mount lenses within 2020 (in addition to XF50mmF1) – Your Guess in the Comments

In the latest X summit here, Fujifilm said they will launch 4 more X mount lenses within 2020 (at some point the manager also said “within the next 12 months“, which could possibly mean within very early 2021).

But anyway, 4 lenses are coming soon.

We know for sure, that one is the Fujinon XF50mm f/1.0, which you can see working prototypes of in the X summit live stream (go to minute 43:07).

But which one are the remaining 3 lenses?

FujiRumors is working on it, and we are confident we will soon be able to give you updates on the upcoming lenses.

For now, just let us know which 3 additional lenses do you think Fujifilm will add to the roadmap. Let’s test your “rumor-intuition-skills“. :)

And just in case it happens you really know the 3 secret lenses, you can always drop me an email at fujirumor@gmail.com. The worldwide Fujifilm community would be grateful for a bit of extra excitement ahead the Fujifilm X-T4 launch on February 26 at 2 PM Tokyo time.

So, fellow FR readers: sit down, relax, and enjoy the time here on FujiRumors, as I have the feeling we will have lots to talk about in the next 2 weeks :).

Inside the Fujifilm Factory with Lok: Assemblling the Fujifilm GFX100 and the Discontinued Fujifilm X-H1

Lok brings you inside the Fujifilm factory in Sendai, Japan.

The first thing he shows, is part of the assembly of the Fujifilm GFX100. Lok is surprised to see that so much of the assembly is done by hand.

You also see how meticulously every smallest dust particle is removed from the sensor and the lenses.

Lok then tries to apply the rubber texture to a Fujifilm X-H1, but what looks easy in skilled hands, turns out to much more difficult to do if you are not trained for it.

And if you wonder, why a Fujifilm X-H1, well, I believe the tour dates back to May/June 2019, when we already shared a couple of similar Fujifilm Sendai factory tour videos.

At that time, Fujifilm only stopped selling Fujifilm X-H1 body only, but they where still producing it, since it had a big revival pushed by the Fujifilm X-H1 + vertical grip combo deals.

Here on FujiRumors, the Fujifilm X-H1 even beat the Fujifilm X-T3 in terms of overall 2019 sales, thanks to this deal.

The production of Fujifilm X-H1 probably only ended in the second half of 2019.

You can see the full factory tour video below.

New Fujinon G Mount Roadmap

Fujifilm announced a new Fujinon G Mount roadmap with the following lenses

(1) Large-diameter standard lens “FUJINON Lens GF80mmF1.7 R WR”

  • The lens with the focal length of 80mm (equivalent to 63mm in the 35mm film format) and the maximum aperture of F1.7 is the brightest*** interchangeable lens for mirrorless digital cameras equipped with a large format sensor. It enables portraiture shooting with beautiful and creamy bokeh even in low light conditions.
  • It boasts astonishing image quality comparable to the professionally-acclaimed large diameter mid-telephoto lens “FUJINON Lens GF110mmF2 R LM WR,” but offers an even wide angle of view with a compact and lightweight body.

(2) Wide-angle prime lens “FUJINON Lens GF30mmF3.5 R WR”

  • The lens with the focal length of 30mm (equivalent to 24mm in the 35mm film format) is perfect for landscape photography. Offering ultra-high resolution capability despite its compact and lightweight body, the lens can bring out the full potential of the 102MP image sensor used in the GFX100.

Let’s Enjoy the Mirrorless Price War – Last Day (Maybe) to Save $1,000 on Fujifilm X/GFX Gear

eXtended X/GFX Deals

In theory, this is the last day of Fujifilm X and GFX deals. I say in theory, as lately Fujifilm (and all other manufacturers), just keep up chronically discounting all their gear. See for example:

The drastically shrinking camera market triggered a battle for survivor, which is surely stressful for companies, but it’s mostly good for us customers, as this competition gives us innovation and the latest and greatest at a cheaper price than ever.

There is a downside, though, also for customers, as this inevitably means that our lovely gear loses value faster.

But if you were looking at your gear as an “investment“, then here is a tip: electronic goods are never good for that. You don’t even have time to unbox your brand new gear at home, that it already lost value.

Is there a thing in life that has only Pros? Well, let me know if there is, because I still haven’t found it. And so it is in the case of the deals. We can decide to be annoyed by the Cons, or just try to enjoy the Pros of it.

With that said, down below is the full list of deals, that will end on January 5th, but in some shape or form will come back surely later this year.
