Fujifilm XF10 Announcement Postponed to After July 5

Fujifilm XF10

Back in June we reported that Fujifilm registered a camera with the code name “FF 180002” to be announced on July 5, said the same document.

However, as spotted by nokishita, Fujifilm now removed the reference to the July 5th announcement from the document. Nokishita writes “it is unclear whether it is a mistake or postponement“.

So don’t expect anything coming on July 5th. You can celebrate Independence Day and take care about the hang-over the day after… there won’t be any live blogging you have to follow :) .

The Fujifilm XF10 is an X70 without one of the most loved features of the X70, the selfie screen, and it has a Bayer sensor.

The Fujifilm XF10 can not be considered and won’t be even marketed as the X70 successor. We already wrote our X80 wish-list with list of features and improvements we would like to see over the X70.

Currently there are a total of 3 Fujifilm cameras registered:

  • FF 180002: Camera similar in size to Fujifilm X70. Very likely the Fujifilm XF10
  • FF 180003: Camera with bluetooth version 4.2. Very likely the Fujifilm X-T3
  • FF 180004: Camera with radio parts like Fujifilm X-H1 and X-E3. Very likely the Fujifilm GFX 50R

Samsung and Fujifilm Developed New CMOS Image Sensor Technology for Enhanced Light Sensitivity and Color Fidelity

Fujifilm + Samsung Sensor Cooperation

Many of you guys often said Fujifilm should stop to buy their sensors from Sony and buy them from Samsung, who already had a 28MP BSI sensor back in 2014 with their fantastic Samsung NX1, a camera that sadly didn’t had the success it deserved and that marked the end of Samsung’s attempt to join the high-end camera market.

But we know that Japanese and Korean companies don’t really like to cooperate.

However, this tabu might have been broken now.

Samsung officially said they are developing a new CMOS sensor technology for mobile photography (smartphones) that allows better pixel isolation and hence improves light sensitivity and color fidelity. Samsung calles it the “ISOCELL Plus” technology.

And in order to make this new sensor possible, Samsung needs Fujifilm.

In fact, the new optimized pixel isolation architecture requires the replacement of the metal barrier with an innovative new material developed by Fujifilm, which minimizes optical loss and light reflection.

You can read all the details in the full press-release below. Here are the two statements of the companies:

FUJIFLM SAYS:

“We value our strategic relationship with Samsung and would like to congratulate on the completion of the ISOCELL Plus development,” said Naoto Yanagihara, corporate vice president of Fujifilm. “This development is a remarkable milestone for us as it marks the first commercialization of our new material. Through continuous cooperation with Samsung, we anticipate to bring more meaningful innovation to mobile cameras.”

SAMSUNG SAYS:

“Through close collaboration with Fujifilm, an industry leader in imaging and information technology, we have pushed the boundaries of CMOS image sensor technology even further,” said Ben K. Hur, vice president of System LSI marketing at Samsung Electronics. “The ISOCELL Plus will not only enable the development of ultra-high-resolution sensors with incredibly small pixel dimensions, but also bring performance advancements for sensors with larger pixel designs.”

Let’s hope this is the start of a proficous collaboration between Samsung and Fujifilm, that opens up new possibilities of cooperation for future projects, maybe also some related to high-end photography APS-C and Medium Format sensors.

As of now, Sony is dominant in the sensor business, and we would definitely need more competition in this area. And Samsung is for sure a company that has the know-how, economic power and infrastructure to take away a piece of the large sensor business cake from Sony.

Also consider that Samsung is not a direct competitor of Fujifilm in the high-end camera business, hence Fujifilm could get always the latest and greatest sensor technology quickier and cheaper than they get it now from Sony.

If you want to see how the cooperation continues and be up to date in real time, make sure to follow us on Facebook, RSS-feed, Instagram, Youtube and Twitter

have a GREAT day,

Sony APS-C Global Shutter 31 MP Sensor Leaked. Not for Fujifilm X-T3, which Will Have 26 Megapixel – UPDATED

SAR ADMIN updated the article with the following 2 notes:
UPDATE: A chinese source just sent me these specs sheets of a rumored new Sony CMOS sensor found on Weibo. I am not sure if they are real but it certainly looks like that.
UPDATED: I edited this post and removed the note about the possibility that this might be used by the future A6700. What we learned now is that this is an APS-C sensor with an aspect ratio of 4:3.

FR ADMIN NOTE: As pointed out by readers, it’s been developed for FA and ITS applications. This is (expensive) BtoB stuff. Not BtoC photographic equipment.

New Sensor

SonyAlphaRumors just received specs about what seems to be the future APS-C sensor made by Sony.

This is of interest for Fujifilm lovers, since Fujifilm buys its sensor from Sony.

However, as we reported here on FujiRumors, the Fujifilm X-T3 will have 26 Megapixel and still be X-Trans. So, if the rumor below is correct, I wouldn’t expect it to be featured on Fujifilm cameras before 2020/2021, maybe something for the Fujifilm X-H2 or Fujifilm X-T4.

Here is what SAR writes:

“A chinese source just sent me these specs sheets of a rumored new Sony CMOS sensor. I don’t know if this is a real deal or some fake specs. So please take it with a grain of salt. But if it’s true this is going to be an AMAZING sensor that might find it’s way into the new A6700!

Key info:

– APS-C size 4:3 aspect ratio
– 31.5 megapixel
– FSI (Front Side illuminated)
– global shutter

This would be the first Front Side illuminated Global Shutter APS-C sensor. Surely enough to make the A6700 super exciting! Here are the spec sheets:

Save $250 on Fujifilm X100F with TCL-X100 II

Fujifilm X100F Deal

Adorama is offering a great deal on the Fujifilm X100F.

In addition to the current official Fujifilm deals, where the X100F is $100 off, they also added the Fujifilm TCL-X100 ver.II on top of it for $150 (save additional $150). This makes a total saving of $250.

You can get the deal here at Adorama.

The TCL-X100 ver.II converts the FF equivalent 35mm lens of the X100F to 50mm.

The TCL-X100 ver.II has the same optical quality of the older TCL-X100, with the only difference that there is a magnet inside the newer version, that allows the camera to automatically detect when the TCL-X100 or WCL-X100 is attached.

However, you do not need to buy the more expensive ver.II converters, since you can attach a cheap 2mm x 1mm magnet by yourself on the old teleconverters. If you want more details, here is explained how to do it.

Is Fujifilm X Really a Professional System?

Here is my Fuji gear minus one lens that is in for repair because it fell apart in my hands. This is just the major gear. I’ve also got all kinds of accessories, batteries, 3rd party flash units, and filters all purchased just for my Fuji system. Read on to find out why, as a full time professional, I’m not feeling confident in this system for professional use.

Looking beyond the gear

by Joel Wolfson

I admit to being a bit of a Fuji fanboy. I have to be in order to put up with all the quirks and inconveniences of the Fuji X system. I believe it is this unconventional approach by Fuji that results in their growth and dedicated following.

But there is more to meeting my needs as a professional photographer than just having cameras with the right features and an array of lenses. So here’s why I question Fujifilm’s X-System as meeting my professional needs:

Before I bought my first X-Pro2 or made any commitment to the Fuji system, I called the Fuji service center and asked if they had a professional service program like the excellent ones from Sony and Canon. They said they have had a big demand for it and expect to have it in the next few months. This was 2 ½ years ago and so far there isn’t one, except for the GFX system (even Fuji told me that only a small fraction of pros using Fuji cameras use the GFX system.)

At that time I thought to myself that the X-Pro2 appeared well made and the lenses had a good feel to them and I could probably live without the pro service for a few months. I ultimately bought another X-Pro2 so I could always have two different lenses ready and also to have a backup. In my 33 years of professional shooting I never had a lens fail from normal use so I didn’t worry about that part of it.

I’m disappointed in the failures
