Lensbaby Velvet 28 is a 28mm, f/2.5 all-metal, hand-crafted art lens that captures tack-sharp detail beneath a layer of radiant glow. Velvet 28 also features exceptional 1:2 macro capabilities with a close focus distance of 2” from the front of the lens. Built with landscape, adventure, travel, and street photographers & videographers in mind, the Velvet 28 offers Lensbaby’s popular variable glow effects at a wide 28mm focal length. Lensbaby’s Velvet effect lenses add an ethereal mood to scenes. This unique, in-camera creative effect elevates imagery with depth, dimension and soulful expression. The Velvet 28’s close-focus capabilities, combined with effects varying from impressionistic at bright apertures to just a touch of velvety smoothness at darker apertures, provides a set of visual tools that will help creative shooters expand their vision of the world. One of Velvet 28’s key features is its 1:2 macro capability. It is an ideal in-camera effects lens for photographers & videographers who like to shoot wide, while also offering the versatility to capture closer details. The lens allows image makers to move seamlessly from shooting street scenes or capturing landscape, adventure & travel images to capturing details such as a subject’s clothing or wildflower blooms and butterflies in an alpine meadow.
You can also find a blog post about it on Cinema5D here, where they say:
It’s a remarkable achievement not only for the price. The lens is very sharp, even when shooting wide open at f/1.8, which was totally unexpected for me. It’s well built from metal, and I can see this show up on a lot of low-budget anamorphic productions everywhere. Right now it’s a shame that there isn’t another focal length available, I would love to see a full set of these out now, but we are hoping that they will come.
10 days ago, the Japanese youtube channel カメラのキタムラ published two interviews with a Fujifilm manager talking about the Fujifilm X-T4.
Each video is 13 minutes long, and I didn’t understand a single word, so I had to rely on the automatic google translator tool, which also had its struggles.
But I went through it, and here are the things I think I could understand.
If some Japanese FR-reader has time, you can do a summary and share it in the comments below.
Iridient X-Transformer 1.6.4 is now available with support for the Fujifilm X-T4 and updates for other recently released models (X100V, X-Pro3, X-T200) to sync them up with the very latest Adobe DNG Converter 12.2 (and CC) versions for color profile and white balance calibration metadata.
This update also modifies the Lightroom plug-in so that normal (JPEG, TIFF, etc) images can be used for selection of images for conversion to DNG, as long as the associated RAF is present along side the standard image. This makes selection of images with old versions of Lightroom that may lack support for newer models RAF much easier, particularly if shooting JPEG+RAW mode as you can just import the JPEGs and use them for selects right from Lightroom.
Fujifilm X Acquire 1.16.0 has just been released. You can download it for MacOS here and Windows here.
The software update Ver.1.16.0 incorporates the following issue:
The compatibility of tethered shooting with FUJIFILM X-T4 is added.
The additional function below can be used. Backup/restore of camera setting for tethered shooting. Tethered shooting via USB or Wi-Fi.
Fujifilm Russia has published a statement on their facebook page, that the shipping of Fujifilm X-T4 cameras is delayed from April to May, 2020. Also, there might be a retail price change.
Important information about FUJIFILM X-T4
The official start of sales of the FUJIFILM X-T4 camera is postponed to a later date, from April 2020 to May 2020.
Due to the sharply increased volatility in the foreign exchange market, by the time the FUJIFILM X-T4 camera starts selling, it is possible to revise the previously announced recommended retail prices.
This is definitely unfortunate for our fellow Russian Fujifilm X shooters, and we hope we won’t see the same delay or price changes in any other country.
So far, neither Fujifilm Japan, North America or Europe have announced anything similar. Most of their press releases still show “April” as shipping start.
But surely, even if the Fujifilm X-T4 starts shipping in April, it will be available only in very limited numbers.
