2018 FujiRumors Top Sellers: Fujifilm X-T3 Wins, Fujifilm GFX50R Surprises and the Best Selling Lens is NOT a Fujinon!

Top Selling Gear 2018

A long and exciting year is ending, and let’s see which one was the favorite gear of the FujiRumors community in 2018.

Keep in mind this is the last day, where you can save big on most of the gear listed below. So make sure to check out the massive official Fujifilm X and GFX deals (exp. Dec.29) as well as the soon expiring BHphoto Mega Deal zone (exp. Dec.29).

TOP SELLING PRODUCTS OVERALL

The Anker PowerCore+ 26800 PD and Anker PowerCore Speed 20000 PD are officially recommended by Fujifilm to charge your cameras, while in use or when switched off. All details here.

And after 3 years, the SF Cable plug adapter loses the 1st position, probably because the brand new Fujifilm X-T3 charger, the Fujifilm BC-W126S, has a wall plug adapter built-in.

You can find the new Fujifilm BC-W126S at BHphoto, AmazonUS and Adorama.

TOP SELLING CAMERAS

The 4th position goes to the Fujifilm GFX 50R, which sold far better than the Fujifilm GFX50S, and here on FujiRumors it also sold better than the Fujifilm X-T20.

In real life, the Fujifilm X-T20 obviously sells much better than the Fujifilm GFX50R and also better than the Fujifilm X-H1. But the FujiRumors community seems to be more interested in Fujifilm’s high-end products.

TOP SELLING LENS OVERALL

The Laowa 9mm F2.8 Zero-D was by far the best-selling lens here on FujiRumors, beating all Fujinon lenses.

This shows that Fuji X Shooters are not Fujinon-slaves, and we are happy to spend our hard-earned money in third-party glass, as long as the quality is good.

The Laowa 9mm F2.8 Zero-D is now available only at BHphoto with $50 discount (expires December 31) and you can find it for regular price at VenusOptics here.

If only Sigma, Tokina, Tamron & Co would make X mount glass, too. I’m sure they would sell really good amongst us X shooters.

TOP SELLING FUJINON LENSES

In 2018 we had the biggest price drop on the stellar Fujinon XF16mm f/1.4 (save $150 until Dec.29). This helped to boost the sales of this lens. Check the full list of massive Fujifilm X and GFX deals, they all expire today.

When it comes to Fujinon GF lenses, the best seller was the Fujinon GF63mmF2.8.

TOP SELLING THIRD PARTY LENSES

The Rokinon 12mm f/2.0 is consistently a top seller since years. And the FujiRumors community seems to have found in the Mitakon Speedmaster 35mm f/0.95 the perfect lens to manage the impatience, while waiting for the Fujinon XF33mmF1.0 in 2020.

The Mitakon and Rokinon are discounted today only at the BHphoto Mega Deal zone.

The Laowa 9mm F2.8 Zero-D is $50 off until December 31 only at BHphoto.

TOP SELLING SOFTWARE

The fact that Capture One now fully supports Fujifilm, has definitely helped to make this software very popular amongst Fujifilm X and GFX shooters.

Remember that the discount on Capture One 12 will end forever on December 31. Use code “AMBFR” at checkout to save 10% on standalone versions and 5% on subscriptions.

Also Luminar 2018 and Aurora HDR 2018 are available with $10 discount using code “FUJI“.

take care,

Fujifilm GFX 50R

The Fujifilm GFX50R is falling into the hands of photographers, but sadly much slower than planed. The demand for the Fuji GFX50R surprised Fujifilm, and they are having a hard time to deliver it to customers.

Anyway, those, who already own it, are also part of our gigantic GFX group, and they share samples and impressions. Make sure to join.

DPReview Declares Fujifilm X-T3 Best Consumer Stills/Video Camera 2018 and Fujifilm GFX50R Runner-Up High-End ILC

Fujifilm X-T3

The Fujifilm X-T3 has been highly praised by all top review blogs and youtube channels out there. And if you take a look at the Fujifilm X-T3 customer reviews at AmazonUS you will also find overwhelmingly enthusiastic feedback.

Yes, the Fuji X-T3 a fantastic allrounder.

And now, after winning three categories in the DPReview buying guides, the DPReview team declared the Fujifilm X-T3 the best consumer stills/video camera of 2018, beating illustrious competitors like the Sony A7III, Fujifilm X-H1 and Nikon Z6.

DPReview writes:

At first glance very similar to its direct predecessor the X-T2, this year’s model is in fact a major upgrade, offering a substantially improved set of video and stills features. In fact, despite its lack of IBIS, the 4K/60-capable X-T3 is arguably a better 4K video platform than the nominal video flagship of the X-series, the X-H1. Its ability to capture 4K/60p footage in 10-bit even puts it ahead of the latest models in Panasonic’s video-centric GH series.

All of this is made more impressive by the fact that until quite recently, Fujifilm’s X-series lagged seriously behind its competition in terms of video. The X-T3 is the clearest indication yet that Fujifilm has well and truly joined the game.”

The Sony A7III, though, beats the Fujifilm X-T3 in the “Best midrange ILC” category, with the Fujifilm X-T3 grabbing the second spot, beating the Canon EOS R and Nikon Z6.

DPReview also nominated the Sony A7III best product of 2018, with the Fujifilm X-T3 runner up. They write:

Picking the single best product of the year is always a difficult task, and if we’re being honest, it’s impossible. Everyone’s needs are different. There has never been a better time to be a photographer, and in 2018 there are fantastic cameras, lenses and accessories out there for everyone.

But pick we must. This year’s shortlist is comprised of those products that represent, in our collective opinion, four of the best bits of gear released in 2018. Two of them really stood out, though. Runner-up is the Fujifilm X-T3 which – in case you didn’t already get the message – we really like. Fujifilm didn’t need to make the X-T3 as good as it is – hell, Fujifilm didn’t even need to replace the X-T2 yet – but they did, and they did. And the resulting camera is one of the best APS-C format ILCs money can buy, even rivaling some full-frame models.”

Compared to the Sony A7III, the Fujifilm X-T3 offers better weather sealing, less rolling shutter, less banding in electronic shutter mode, superior video specs, better EVF, better colors, dual UHS-II SD-card slot, video eye-tracking, blackout-less EVF at 30 fps and more for a cheaper price.

But, well, the Fujifilm X-T3 is not “full frame“, and these two little words just make the difference, probably more in our minds, than in real life shooting. But hey, that’s it. Now let’s talk medium format :).

Fujifilm X-T3: BHphoto, AmazonUS, Adorama, Focuscamera

Fujifilm GFX50R

When it comes to the best high-end ILC category, the Nikon Z7 wins and the Fujifilm GFX50R takes the second spot, beating the Panasonic GH5s and Panasonic G9.

This year’s runner-up spot is taken by the camera with the biggest sensor of all – the Fujifilm GFX 50R. Designed for active photographers, the 50R takes the best bits of the more costly 50S – including its most important feature – the excellent 50MP CMOS sensor – and packages them in a smaller, more affordable, rangefinder-style body. Medium-format has never looked more attractive.”

Is the Fujifilm GFX100R Really Under Development? Our Sources Reveal the Truth!

GFX100R under Development?

Recently Fujifilm hosted an event for 200 journalists in Yokohama during CP+.

It’s the famous event in which Fujifilm displayed 10 X mount lenses under study.

The French website LesNumerique was present at the event and reported that they had been told that the Fujifilm GFX50R successor is currently “under development”.

Add to that that “rumors” about the imminent arrival of the Fujifilm GFX100R are popping up ahead of every X summit of the last 2 years, and it’s understandable why many have high hopes for a GFX50R replacement to come soon.

But what have our sources to say about it?

Well, here it is:

Whoever told LesNumerique that the GFX50R successor is under development was 100% wrong. And whoever shared any GFX50R successor rumor ever was willingly misleading you with fake clickbait rumors.

Phew, luckily FujiRumors never shared a single GFX50R replacement rumor ;).

The truth is this: according to our trusted sources (multiple trusted sources), Fujifilm is currently investing the staggering amount of zero dollars/euro/yen/whatever into the development of the Fujifilm GFX50R successor.

FujiRumors Must be Wrong, because…

Fujifilm Displays 10 Lenses “Under Study” and Talks X-Pro, X-E, GFX-R and Fixed Lens GFX Future

With all the talk about the Fujifilm X100VI in these days, we can now report also something interesting for those of you, who are not into the X100 line (thanks to Mistral!).

In a session with journalists, Fujifilm shared 10 lenses that were “under study” and also talked about future X/GFX cameras, as reported by the French website lesnumeriques here, who also is to credit for the images.

10 Lenses “Under Study”
(Images at the Top of the Article)

Fujifilm did display 10 lenses currently “under study” by Fujifilm. But please guys, don’t take this as any sort of “roadmap”, for the reasons I’ll explain below.

  • Super-Telephoto Prime lens XF 400mm or longer
    – 11-110mm diameter
    – weight 1,300-1,400g
  • XF120mmF2 (in between XF90mmF2 and XF200mmF2)
    – Size 140-160mm
    – 90-110mm diameter
    – 900-1,000g
  • Super Wide-angle Fast Lens for Astro Photography
    – Size 80-100mm
    – 70-80mm diameter
    – weight 400-600g
  • XF 23mm Pancake
    – size 20-40mm
    – 60-65mm diameter
    – Weight 80-100g
  • Super Zoom Lens XF 16-200mm
    – size 120-140mm
    – 70-80 diameter
    – weight 600-800g
  • Tele-Photo Zoom Lens at F4
    – size 120-130mm
    – 70-80 diameter
    – weight 500-700g
  • Compact Wide Zoom Lens at F2.8
    – size 70-90mm
    – 60-75mm diameter
    – weight 200-300g
  • Fish-Eye Lens
    – size 50-60mm
    – 55-70 diameter
    – weight 200-300g
  • Affordable Thin Standard Zoom Lens – XC Lineup
    – size 30-40mm
    – 60-70mm diameter
    – weight 100-130G
  • Affordable Wide Zoom Lens – XC Lineup
    – Size 40-50mm
    – 60-70mm diameter
    – weight 130-170g

It’s not the first time that Fujiflm gave us a list of “lenses under study“. It happened also back in 2019, when they even wanted us to vote on those lenses (as they wanted the journalists to vote on the lenses we display today). And if we look at the list, except for some MKII lenses, not much on that list ever materialized in a real product.

So don’t take it as a solid indication on anything.

Top 3 Cameras Fujifilm Should Make for Instant Success (X and GFX)

We recently told you that Fujifilm is preparing a huge start in 2024:

Now, of course most of the talk and speculations in our previous articles was gravitating around successors to existing camera lines.

And it makes a whole of sense to focus on refreshes of current cameras, nothing prohibits us to dream big and think and completely different cameras.

So what I will do is to share three cameras that I think would turn out to be an instant and massive success for Fujifilm.

And I am not talking of weird and risky concepts. I am talking of cameras that would sell very well for sure in my opinion.

So, let’s go through them and let me think what you think about.

Also, feel free to drop your own ideas in the comments.
