So here is another little X100F zone, and in includes great feedback, as well as one negative one about the X100F joystick, which seems to suffer the same issue of my Fujfilm X-E3.

There is also a review about the very affordable L-bracket Fittest LB-X100F.

Full Frame or Medium Format?

What should Fujifilm offer along with its APS-C line up?

Well, I’m glad Fujifilm answered: we should offer the best image quality of any mirrorless camera ever… hence Medium Format was the obvious choice.

In todays’ Roundup we will tell you how the Fujifilm GFX 50s has been declared Top Camera of 2017 and much more, including many fantastic images shared by fellow Fujifilm GFX shooters at our Fujifilm GFX facebook group.

And don’t worry, the Fujifilm GFX is still on my radar… and as you can see in this image, I’m working restlessly to get the money to buy it ;) .

And just in case you missed it, we have a dedicated Fujifilm GFX facebook page for 100% GFX coverage only.

Fujifilm GFX 50S and Instax Square SQ10 Elected “Japanese Historical Cameras” by the Japanese Camera Museum

Fujifilm Historical Cameras

In 1969, the Japanese Camera Museum started to select some cameras as “Japanese Historical Cameras” and to preserve them for the future in their museum.

Cameras which are considered significant in some regard are selected by the Historical Camera Committee, which is composed of unbiased experts and specialists in the field.”

This year (2017) the Japanese Camera Museum selected the Fujifilm GFX 50S and Instax Square SQ10 as their “historical camera“. These two cameras will now be displayed permanently at their museum.

Full list of elected cameras in 2017 here:

In 2014, the X-T1 and X100T were elected “historical cameras“. In 2016 the X-T2 was declared historical. List of winners in previous years here.

While I’m obviously happy for this recognition and I consider especially the Fujifilm GFX 50S definitely worth to be considered “historical” (it is a potential game changer for the industry), I honestly think that we should wait years (decades?) before anyone can declare any camera really “historical“.

DPReview Top Gear 2017 Awards: Sony Wins Big. Fujifilm X-E3 and X100F Runner-Up

via camerasize

DPReview Awards 2017

DPReview just declared their favorite gear of 2017.

The big winner is Sony, with the best product of the year, the Sony A7rIII and more awards. Fujifilm does not win anything, but is Runner-Up in the Midrange ILC (X-E3) and Compact Camera (X100F) category.

If I should highlight just one thing that I (respectfully) do not agree with DPReview: I think the Fujifilm X100F would have made a much better “compact camera” award winner than the rather huge Sony RX10 IV.

Here are the winners:

And the rest of the awards go to…

Fujifilm Plans 10/15 more Lenses for GFX in the Next 5 Years… and Correcting More Wrong Rumors

I’m in the rumor world since many years now, and I know it’s not easy to share accurate information. It’s way more complicated than you think.

This is why I never shout “fake clickbait rumors“, when I read some wrong rumors that surface on the web.

All I do in those cases, is to correct those wrong rumors, so that you guys have an accurate idea of what Fujifilm is going to launch (or not).

And today, it’s my job to correct some wrong rumors that I think have been shared with good will, but are nevertheless wrong.

I have the choice to leave them wrong, or correct them. And I decided to correct them. With great respect to the source though, who I think shared really what it heard.

No shitstorm, no hate, just a little help to get closer to the truth (and I know that it’s not easy, believe me).

Wrong Rumor 1
25/30 lenses for GFX in the next 5 years?

GFX lovers, don’t have too high expectations. Fujifilm will not have 25 or even 30 GF lenses in total within the next 5 years.

The current schedule is to release 2/3 GF lenses a year, so this means maximum 10 to 15 GF more lenses will be added in the next 5 years.

Add to these 10/15 lenses the current 6 GF lenses, and we will have from 16 to a maximum of 21 GF lenses 5 years from now (not bad at all!)

But the only way for Fujifilm to have a total of 30 GF lenses 5 years from now, would be to stop developling lenses for X-mount ;)

Wrong Rumor 2
GF 80-180 ?

Sorry guys, Fujifilm has no plans for such a lens. Again, I invite you to check out this secret GF roadmap (which shows a 100-200 lens, though ;) ). There is no GF 80-180 on Fuji’s internal roadmap.

Wrong Rumor 3
Fujifilm X-H1 will have a different processor?

Nope. It’s the same X Processor Pro used in X-T2, GFX, X-Pro2 etc. I might publish a more in-depth article later on about this. But at the end of the day there is no doubt that the X-H1 will get its power from the good old X Processor Pro.

Message to source I have corrected

I have corrected some of your rumors, and publicly on FujiRumors I can’t say more than this.

But privately and confidentially, and of course only with permission of my sources, I can give you a more in-depth and detailed insight behind the scenes of what my current Fuji long-term knowledge is and if you want we can compare our knowledge.

If you want, feel free to contact me via email creating a fake email account if you feel more comfortable.

Message to sources in general

As I said above… rumors are always complicated. So even if you think “Ah, Patrick will probably already know it”, don’t hesitate to contact me. Given the amount of fake rumors I get, even every double/triple confirmation I can get is extremely useful for me.

stay tuned… the best has yet to come :)

In addition, the update also enhances tracking to be able to capture up to 50% smaller moving subjects than before.
  2. Support “FUJIFILM X RAW STUDIO” for Macintosh: Once connecting a camera to a computer via USB cable, the “FUJIFILM X RAW STUDIO” enables users to convert RAW files with X Processor Pro. *”FUJIFILM X RAW STUDIO Ver.1.0 Installer for Macintosh” can be downloaded from the URL below. (Download Ver.1.0 for Mac)
  3. Improve radio flash controller usability: The upgrade allows users to shoot with compatible third party studio flash in high speed sync. or TTL mode via their radio controllers.
  4. Support for backup/restore of camera settings via “FUJIFILM X Acquire“: Once connecting a camera to a computer via USB cable, the “FUJIFILM X Acquire” allows users to backup/restore camera settings to/from a file. Copying all camera settings from one camera to another is available.

  5. Support for “Instax SHARE SP-3“: Additionally,” Instax SHERE SP-3″ has become compatible with this camera.
  6. RGB histogram display and highlight warning: If you press the function button allocated to the histogram, RGB histogram and highlight warning (High brightness portion will blink.) are displayed.
  7. The phenomenon is fixed that exposure compensation is not correctly reflected to brightness of live view on LCD and EVF when ISO setting is “AUTO”, exposure compensation is “C” and it is changed by the command dial.

FUJIFILM X-T20: Ver.1.10 – Download here

  1. Touch panel operation when using the EVF: The firmware update will make it possible to use the touch panel while looking into the viewfinder. According to the operation method, it’s possible to set the effective range of the touch panel to the full screen, right half, left half, or OFF.
  2. Support for “Instax SHARE SP-3”: Additionally,” Instax SHERE SP-3″ has become compatible with this camera.

FUJIFILM GFX 50S: Ver.2.00Download here

  1. Support “FUJIFILM X RAW STUDIO” for Macintosh: Once connecting a camera to a computer via USB cable, the “FUJIFILM X RAW STUDIO” enables users to convert RAW files with X Processor Pro. The fast batch processing will also be available. The “FUJIFILM X RAW STUDIO” can be downloaded from the FUJIFILM website for free.

*”FUJIFILM X Acquire Ver.1.7 Installer for Windows/Macintosh” can be downloaded here.
  4. Addition of “Eye Sensor + LCD Image Display” in the View Mode: The update gives the “Eye Sensor + LCD Image Display” option in the View Mode that allows you to shoot through the viewfinder and check images on the LCD, just as you would with an SLR.
  5. ON/OFF for 1/3-step shutter speed adjustment: The update allows you to turn off the Command Dial’s function to adjust shutter speed by 1/3 steps in order to prevent unintended adjustments.
  6. Addition of “Shoot Without Card” mode: With the update, you can have the “Shoot Without Card” mode turned OFF so that the camera will not shoot when there is no SD card inserted.
  7. Addition of “-6” and “-7” to EVF’s brightness setting: The update will extend the “EVF Brightness” setting options to “-6” and “-7” so that, even in an extremely low-light condition, the brightness of the EVF does not distract you from shooting.

Fujifilm GFX 50S Faces the Elements

Check out the Josselin Cornou video blog at untitledshot Youtube and some images at Instagram here and here.

TLDR :

  • Fujifilm GFX50s – Kipon EF-GFX – Tamron 15-30mm survived -15C (5 Fahrenheit) with 110km/h (70 mph) wind. It stayed out in the cold for 40min+ when the setup was literally frosting (2 times 15mn exposure, few 30s exposures).
  • Tamron 15-30mm is behaving really well with the Fujifilm GFX. From 18mm-30mm it’s really sharp and still really usable in the corner. I found it sharper in the center than with the Fuji 32-64mm@32mm.
  • So yes I definitely recommend using High definition lenses full frame for the GFX. Most of them are upscaled design to get the extras sharpness – which means that they fit Medium format.
  • And the GFX just behaved really well at those conditions, impressively well actually! (no bug, no crash, no shutdown, etc.). Having up to 60mn exposure is definitely a plus.

Sony A7R3 Vs Fujiflm GFX Dynamic Range Test at PhotonsToPhotos

The Fujifilm GFX still beats the Sony A7RIII, but as reported by SonyAlphaRumors here, things change when using pixel shift, which makes the A7rIII gain extra dynamic range.

The data:

While Fujifilm will release an IBIS camera soon, it won’t have (at least for its start) sensor shift technology.

But it’s Fuji’s first generation of IBIS… give it time, and I’m confident we will get also pixel shift, on both, APS-C and MF cameras.

Fujifilm X-T2, X-T20 and GFX 50S Firmware Update on Thursday, November 30

Fujifilm will update the Fujifilm X-T2, X-T20 and GFX 50s on November 30 (Thursday).

List of improvements:

Fujifilm Netherlands recently said here that the Fujifilm X-T20 firmware update has been postponed. But I guess Fujifilm was able to fix all issues and is ready to release it on time. You see, even Fujifilm itself can share wrong rumors now and then ;) .

FujiRumors Recommends

  1. Update your camera in any case, even if you do not need the features/improvements that come with this specific firmware update. Fujifilm often implements “undocumented fixes“, which can be as small as a typo in the menu, but also more significant bug fixes and improvements.
  2. To be 100% safe, though, do not update your camera on the same day you need your camera for a paid assignment. In very rare cases, firmware updates can introduce new bugs. If you need your camera on a paid job, wait a few days, check back fujirumors.com to see if there are some bugs with the new firmware in the following days, and if there are no reports, update your camera. But with that said, in 99% of the cases a new firmware will only improve things, and not make them worst. So at the end, always update.
  3. Read these tips for updating your firmware
